Route 66: End of the Trail
SignRoute 66 was one of the original highways in the original U.S. Highway System. It was established on November 11, 1926 and it ran from Chicago though Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona before established in Los Angeles.
In 1936, Route 66 was extended from Los Angeles to Santa Monica. It stopped at the intersection of Olympic and Lincoln Boulevard. Later Santa Monica exteded the route "Route 66" to the Santa Monica Pier after 2006 and unveilled "End of the Trail" on November 10, 2009.
Route 66 became quite famous in America due to many Hollywood productions. Such as 60s television series "Route 66". Classic novel "The Grapes of Wrath" and popular song "Get Your Kicks on Route 66".
Finally in 1985 Route 66 was officially removed from the US Highway System. Today it is the 110 Freeway which to the south is known as the Harbor Freeway and on the northern end the Pasadena Freeway.
