Russia is the largest country in the world. It encompassing more than one-eighth of Earth's inhabited land area. The country spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia
Russia is bordered in west by Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus and Ukraine. Bordered in south by Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea. Russia shares maritime borders with Japan and the U.S. state of Alaska. There is a province in Russia named Kaliningrad, which is separate land from Russia. Kaliningrad is bordered by Poland to the south and Lithuania to the north and east.
As of 2014, Russia divided into 85 federal subjects. 22 federal subjects are also republic. 9 federal subjects are also called Krais (territories). 46 federal subjects are also called Oblasts (provinces). Among them Kaliningrad Oblast is separated from the mainland Russia is located in between Poland and Lithuania. 3 federal subjects (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Sevastopol) have a status of both federal city and separate federal subject. 1 Federal Subject (Jewish Autonomous Oblast) is also a Autonomous Oblast. 4 Federal Subjects are also Autonomous Okrugs (with a substantial ethnic minority). Among 85 federal subjects, 2 (Sevastopol and the Republic of Crimea) are not internationally recognized as part of Russia.
Moscow is the capital of Russia.
