107 meters giant obelisk was built in 1964 to celebrate achievements of the Soviet people in space exploration. The Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics is located inside the monument. The museum is dedicated to space exploration.

Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy is a permanent general purpose trade show and amusement park. It was also called the All-Russia Exhibition Center from 1991 to 2014. It was opened on 1 August 1939.

Ostankino Estate-Museum

In 1787 Nikolai Sheremetev (28 June 1751 - 2 January 1809) inherited Ostankino upon the death of his father. In 1792, Sheremetev first built a two-story wooden theater hall. The present shaped building including pavilion wings was built in 1793. Interior works took another six years. The theater was opened in summer of 1795.

Khram Zhivonachal'noy Troitsy V Ostankine

Holy Trinity Church in Ostankino was first built in a wooden church in 1610s. Then again wooden church was built in 1625-1627. The present church was built in 1678-1692. The church was closed in 1920. It was later converted into a Russian Art museum.

Ostankino Tower

540.1 meters television and radio tower was built in 1963-1967. It is the tallest free-standing structure in Europe. Between 1967 and 1974, it was the tallest in the world. There is a observation deck (at height 337 meters) and the Seventh Heaven restaurant, Concert Hall and Interactive Multimedia Complex.

Kuskovo Summer Palace

Boris Petrovich Sheremetev (1652–1719), a Russian Field Marshal, bought the property in 1715. A wooden church, a house and several ponds were already exist at this place. Most of constructions was done by his son Petr Borisovich Sheremetev (1713–1788). New church was built on the site of wooden church in 1737-39 and bell-tower was added in 1792. The Dutch House was constructed in 1749-1751. The park of Kuskovo was created in 1750-1780. The grotto was constructed in 1756-1761. Big Stone Orangery (Greenhouse) was built in 1762–1765. Now the Orangery is serves as an exhibition space of the Museum. The Palace was built in 1769-1775. Facade was added in 1774.
After the death of Peter Sheremetev, in 1788, his son Nikolay inherited the estate.
The palace was badly damaged during the French invasion in 1812.
The property had been nationalized in 1918. The palace was converted into a museum of natural history in 1919. It became the home of the State Museum of Ceramics in 1937.

Bunker-42 on Taganka

When the United States invented the nuclear bomb, the USSR government decided to protect themselves by building bunkers and their own bombs. In 1950, construction of the bunker began. The main construction was completed in 1952 and the environmental support systems were finished in the summer of 1953. Until 1986, the bunker was the command center for strategic bombers. However, the bunkers of the 50s could not stand up against modern weapons.

Bakhrushin Theater Museum

Museum was founded in 1894 by the Russian merchant, Alexey Bakhrushin. The Museum is located in the former house of Bakhrushin in Zamoskvorechye District. It was a one-floor building was built in 1896. The building was expanded in 1937–1938.
Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday - 10 AM to 7 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 300 Ruble ($4.04) to 150 Ruble ($2.02).
How to go: It is located about 1.3 meters from Bunker-42 on Taganka towards southwest. You have to cross the bridge over Moskva River at Bakhrushin St, 31/12.


Krutitsy

Churches Complex

Prince Daniil Aleksandrovich (1261 – 4 March 1303)) donated the land to the diocese (church governance). Diocese completed the first church in 1272. Resurrection Church was built in the 1650s. Metropolitan Chamber was built in 1655-1670. Two churches of Dormition Cathedral, one is St. Peter and Paul was built in 1667-1689 and church of our Lady was built in 1700.
In 1785, the diocese of Krutitsi was abolished and the abbey closed. As a result, Vacant property passed to the Imperial Military.
Dormition Cathedral burnt down in the Fire of 1812 and restored in 1823 and operated until 1924 and then closed.
Resurrection church was rebuilt in 1936-1938. Diocese of Krutitsy was created again in 1920, then in 1947 merged with Diocese of Kolomna. Renovation works done in 1960s-1980s. But the property was still run by the military. Finally, in 1991 and 1996 the buildings of Krutitsy were returned to the church.
Visiting Information: There are 2 gates for the public. Visitors should leave the place at the end of evening, cannot stay at night. It is a non-smoking zone. Photography somewhere restricted but inform them.
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 8 PM every day.
How to go: It is located about 1.3 km from Bakhrushin Theater Museum towards southeast. You have to cross the bridge over Moskva River. It is located on the bank of Moskva River in Tagansky District.


Novospassky Monastery

Church

The first church was built here in 1490. It was completely rebuilt in the 1640s. The monastery was converted into a prison during the Soviet years. In the 1970s, it was used as an art restoration institute, and finally again the Russian Orthodox church in 1991.
How to go: It is located 350 meters from Krutitsy towards northwest at Krest'yanskaya Ploshchad', 10.

Kolomenskoye

Royal Estate

390 hectares scenic area is located on the bank of banks of the Moskva River in Kolomna Town.
Inside the premises:
Church of John the Baptist in Dyakovo: It was constructed around 1547.
Church of St. George: It was built around 1685.


Church of the Ascension

Church

The Church of the Ascension was built in 1532 to celebrate the birth of the prince Tsar Ivan IV. It is the first tent-roofed church to be built in stone. The walls are 2.5 to 3 meters thick.
It is the UNESCO World heritage site.
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 9 PM every day.
How to go: It is located at Andropova Avenue.


Dvorets Tsarya Alekseya

Wooden Palace

The wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich was built in 1667. It consisted of 26 buildings of 270 rooms connected with each other by passages and halls. Empress Elizabeth Petrovna was born in the palace on 18 December 1709. Tsar Peter the Great (9 June 1672 – 8 February 1725) spent part of his youth here.
In 1768, Catherine II ordered the demolition of the wooden palace, which then fell into disrepair. in 1990s, authorities reconstructed about 1 km south from its original location. The palace was turned into the museum.
Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday - 10 AM to 6 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 350 Ruble ($4.72) for combined ticket (both male and female chambers). 250 Ruble ($3.37) for Male chambers. 200 Ruble ($2.69) for Woman chambers. Free for child age below 7.

How to go: The palace is located in the Kolomenskoye park at prospekt Andropova, 39. The closest metro station is Kashirskaya. Exit metro, turn left toward the tunnel which leads to the park entrance.

Tsaritsyno Palace

The property was bought by empress Catherine the Great in 1775. A palace was built for the Empress in 1776-85 but she disliked this. A new palace construction was began in 1786. The construction interrupted after her death in 1796. The place was completed and extensively reworked in 2005-07.
Now, it is a history and architecture museum.
Visiting Time: Park open from 6 AM to 12 AM (midnight) every day. Museum - Tuesday to Friday - 10:30 AM to 8 PM. Saturday - 10:30 AM to 8 PM. Sunday - 10:30 AM to 7 PM. Monday remains closed. Greenhouse - Wednesday to Friday - 10:30 AM tp 6 PM. Saturday - 10:30 AM< to 8 PM. Sunday - 10:30 AM to 7 PM. Monday and Tuesday remains closed.

The Orlov Museum of Paleontology was founded in 1937 at different place. The current building construction was stated in 1972. The museum has started at this place since 1987. It exhibits almost every type of fossil organism.

The new building of Darwin Museum was opened in 1995.

Sparrow Hills

80 meters high (above the river level, 195 meters above sea level) hill is the highest points in Moscow. There is a observation deck and a Church of the Trinity on the hill.
720-metre cable car connects Sparrow Hills and the Luzhniki Stadium on the opposite side of the Moskva River.
How to go: It is located 2.5 km from Darwin Museum towards northwest.


Luzhniki Stadium

81,000 capacity stadium is the largest stadium in Russia, was built and opened on 31 July 1956. It was the main venue of the 1980 Olympic Games. It was the main stadium of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and hosted 7 matches including the opening match and the final.
How to go: It is located other bank of Moskva river from Sparrow Hills. A cable car operated from hill to stadium over the river.


Novodevichy Cemetery

The cemetery was inaugurated in 1898.
How to go: It is located about 650 meters from Luzhniki Stadium towards north.


Novodevichy Convent

Cloister

The convent was built in 1524 by Vasili III, the Grand Prince of Moscow.
In 1724, the convent housed a military hospital for the soldiers and officers of the Russian Army.
The Bolsheviks closed down the Novodevichy Convent in 1922. It turned it into the Museum of Women's Emancipation. By 1926, the monastery had been transformed into a history and art museum. In 1934, it became affiliated with the State Historical Museum. In 1945, the Soviets returned Assumption Cathedral to the believers.
How to go: It is located northeast side of Novodevichy Cemetery.

Neskuchny Garden

40.8 hectares park is the oldest park in Moscow. It contains the Green Theater, which is the largest open amphitheaters in Europe.
How to go: It is located about 2.5 km from Novodevichy Cemetery towards southeast on the other bank of Moskva river.


Donskoy Monastery

Church

The monastery was built in 1591. Andreyevsky Monastery was attached with Donskoy Monastery in the mid-17th century. In the 1670s, two symmetrical annexes were added. Vidogoshchsky, Zhizdrinsky, Sharovkin, and Zheleznoborovsky monasteries were attached to the Donskoy Monastery between 1683 and 1685. In 1724, the monks and the property of the Andreyevsky Monastery were transferred to the Donskoy Monastery.
From 1930 to 1946, the cathedral was closed for services and housed a factory. Donskoy Monastery was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992.

Muzeon Park of Arts

The largest open-air sculpture museum in Russia.

Tretyakov Gallery

Museum

The museum has two separate buildings. The Old Building is located on Lavrushinskiy Pereulok and the New Building is located besides Muzeon Park. New building exhibits Russian arts of 20th-century.
Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov, a Moscow businessman, had been collecting fine arts since 1856. The Tratyakov family lived in a house (old building) bought in 1851 which later became a gallery.
Russian Federated Soviet Republic owned the Tretyakov Gallery on June 3, 1918. In 1927, the gallery acquired the neighboring houses. An administrative building was built in 1985–1994. The 17th century-church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi was closed and the building was given to the gallery in 1932. On the north side of the main building, a two floor building was built in 1936. The Alexander Ivanov Hall was built in 1956, during the 100th anniversary of the Tretyakov Gallery. On the south side of the main building, a building was built in 1989.

Resurrection Gate

Gate

The Resurrection Gate is one of the two entrances to Red Square. The first stone gate was built in 1536. Then again rebuilt by brick in 1680.
The double passage was surmounted with two-storey chambers. Until 1731, the chambers above the gate were occupied by Mint and the Central Drug Store. Later, the university press moved into the gate chambers.
In 1931, the Resurrection Gate and the front wooden Iveron Chapel were demolished. Both structures were completely rebuilt in 1994-1995.
How to go: It is located from the northwest side of Red Square between the Moscow City Hall (to the left) and the State Historical Museum (to the right).


Former government administration

Landmark

It was built in 1733-1740 and served as the headquarters of the administration of the city of Moscow. The building was destroyed in war against Napoleon in 1812. It was rebuilt in 1810s. It is now using as historical museum.

Kazan Cathedral

Church

First wooden church was built in 1625 which was destoyed by fire in 1632. The brick church was built at this place in October 1636.
The church exterior was completely reconstructed to its original design in 1929–1932. The church was demoshed in 1936 for military parades in Red Square. The church was completely rebuilt in 1990-1993, a copy of the original design.

GUM department store

Shopping Center

Gum is the well known shopping center in Russia.
Catherine II (2 May 1729 – 17 November 1796) was built a huge trade center along the east side of Red Square. It was destroyed by fire in 1812 and later replaced by the current structure.
In 1917, the building contained about 1,200 stores. It was converted into office space in 1928. It was used a department store again since 1953.
How to go: It is located east side of Red Square.


Lobnoye Mesto

Building

One of the oldest buildings on the square. It was first documented in 1549.

Monument to Minin and Pozharsky

The monument was built in 1812-1818 to comemmorate two Russian national heroes Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitri Poszharsky. It was located in front of GUM depertment store. It was moved to its present location in 1930.

It was built in 1555-1561. The church has listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was originally known as Trinity Church. The Trinity Church burnt down in 1583 and again built in 1593. The church expanded in 1680–1683. In 1737 the church was damaged by a massive fire and repaired in 1761–1784.

It was built in 1817-1825 with a roof without internal support for 45 meters. It was used as the house parades of horsemen and a training school for officers. It has been an exhibition place since 1831. It was used as an art gallery during the Soviet years. The building burnt down by fire on 14 March 2004. It was restored on 18 February 2005.

After his death, his son Viktor Melnikov, a painter, opened the museum in 2014. It exhibits the life and work of Konstantin and Viktor Melnikovs.

The Moscow Kremlin

Kremlin is the Russian word for “fortress”. The area contains 5 palaces, 4 cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with Kremlin towers. The complex now serves as the official residence of the Russian President. The Kremlin is open to the public.
The complex contains Tsar Cannon, Ivan the Great Bell-Tower, Tsar Bell, Cathedral of the Archangel, Annunciation Cathedral, Palace of Facets, Dormition Cathedral, Almaznyy Fond, Armoury Chamber.
There are two entrances to the Kremlin. One is crowded (middle west) through the Kutafya tower inside Alexander Garden. Another is less crowded at the southwest corner to the Armoury chamber. You have to buy 2 Tickets. One is "architectural ensemble of Cathedral Square and permanent expositions" and another is for "Armoury Chamber". You can buy tickets in advance so as not to waste time queuing.

The cannon was cast in bronze in 1586. The Tsar Cannon was placed at several points around Moscow.

Ivan the Great Bell-Tower

The tower was built in 1505-1508. The present height 81 meters was raised in 1600.

Tsar Bell

Monument

6.14 meters tall and diameter of 6.6 meters bell is the largest bell in the world. It was built first in 1600 and required 24 men to ring its clapper. It was destroyed by fire in the mid-17th century. The second Tsar Bell was built in 1655 but was again destroyed by fire in 1701. The third took almost a century to create. It was finally successfully raised in the summer of 1836.
There was a joke that the Kremlin's two greatest items were a bell which was never rung and a cannon that was never fired.

Dormition Cathedral

A 12th century wooden church was replaced by limestone structure built around 1326. Another new church was built at this place from August 4, 1326 to August 4, 1327 by Ivan I. It was damaged and was rebuilt in 1472. It was damaged by an earthquake in May 1474. The present stucture of new church was built in 1475-1479 by Ivan III.
It was converted into a museum in 1917. In 1990, It was returned to the church.

Patriarch's Palace

Also known as Kremlin State Palace contains the Twelve Apostles Church and an Exhibition Hall in the one-Pillar chamber.

Cathedral of the Archangel

The first church at this place was built in 1250 and was replaced with a stone church in 1333 by Ivan I. The present cathedral was built here in 1508 by Ivan III.

Annunciation Cathedral

It was built in 1484-August 1489 by Ivan III.

Palace of Facets

Also known as Grand Kremlin Palace is an official ceremonial hall in the residence of the President of the Russian Federation.
It was built in 1492 by Ivan III. It was used for formal receptions of the Tsar, coronation celebrations, feasts, and state ceremonies.
The Palace of Facets was opened to public, only by an organized prearranged tour.

Prince Peter Urusov founded a theater group on 28 March 1776. He acquired the Petrovka Theater and began producing plays and operas on 30 December 1780.
The Petrovka Theatre destroyed by fire on 8 October 1805. New theater was replaced here on 13 April 1808. It also destroyed by fire in 1812. Another new theater building was built in 1821-1824 and opened on 18 January 1825 as the Bolshoi Petrovsky Theater. Theater was damaged due to fire in 1853. It was reconstructed and reopened on 20 August 1856.
The theater was repaired several times. A new stage was built on the left of the theater's historic main stage on 29 November 2002.

Mercury City Tower

Skyscraper

338.8 meters tall 75 floor skyscraper was built in 2006-2013. It is using as offices, apartments, retail, restaurants, a fitness center, conference rooms, and parking spaces.
How to go: It is located about 2.3 km from Museum Presnya towards west on plot 14 in the Moscow International Business Center (MIBC).


OKO

Complex

Complex of 2 skyscrapers - North Tower and South Tower. North Tower is 245 meters tall with 49 floors and South Tower is 354.1 meters with 85 floors. The complex was built in 2015. The complex houses apartments, office space, a 5-star hotel.
How to go: It is located aoubt 300 meters from Mercury City Tower towards west in the Moscow International Business Center (MIBC).


Battle of Borodino Museum-panorama

The museum is panoramic arts specially for the war between Russia and France in 1812.
Visiting Time: Saturday to Wednesday - 10 AM to 6 PM. Thursday - 10 AM to 9 PM. Friday remains closed.

How to go: It is located about 1.6 km from OKO complex towards southwest at 38 Kutuzovsky Prospekt. Nearest metro station is 'Park Pobedy' about 400 meters away towards southwest and 'Kutuzovskaya' is about 550 meters away towards northeast.


Poklonnaya Gora

Hill

171.5 meters high hill is now contains the Victory Park with many tanks and other vehicles used in the Second World War on display. It is called the Victoria Museum, an open-air museum.
How to go: Nearest metro station is "Park Pobedy" which is 400 meters from Battle of Borodino Museum-panorama. On weekends and public holidays from 10 AM to 7 PM, every 30 minutes there is a free Shuttle service from the metro station "Park Pobedy".
