Long long ago, Paliwal Brahmins were lived in Kuldhara village. Salim Singh was the cruel ruler of Jaisalmer. He ruled Jaisalmer from 1762-1819. Once upon a time he saw the daughter of a local chief. Then he wanted to marry her and warned villagers that their tax would be higher if anyone interfere with his demand.
He gave the villagers only one day to accept his proposal. As per loyalty and respect for the local chief, the entire community Kuldhara and 83 nearby villagers decided to leave the place before the deadline. In that night they all together left the village and nobody knows where they moved and how they disappeared in a night.
It is said that they even left a curse on the villages, bringing death and suffering to anyone who tried to live in this village. So since then no one has dared to make their home and no one has officially lived there for over 200 years. Those who tried to re-populate the village experienced paranormal activities.
From a 2017 study, Kuldhara and other neighboring villages such as Khabha were abandoned because of an earthquake.
