Koh Samui is a district (Amphoe) of Surat Thani province (Changwat) in Thailand. It is the second largest island in Thailand.


How to Reach Koh Samui

There are many ways you can reach at Koh Samui from any part of Thailand.
From Bangkok you can reach Koh Samui many different ways.


1. Direct Air
2. Air + Bus/taxi + Ferry
3. Train + Bus/Taxi + Ferry
4. Bus + Ferry


By Air: Direct Air goes to Koh Samui from many part of Thailand. Air fare round trip from Bangkok may cost $180. It takes approximately 1 hour.
Buy a cheapest air-ticket from below site. This is my favorite site because it shows the different airline ticket prices of the same flight. So it makes easy for me to buy the lowest price ticket.
Type your travel city name "Koh Samui" in Destination box. Select your depart and return date. If one-way, click on the 'X' in the return date box. Click on search.



To reduce air cost on the other hand you can go from Bangkok to Surat Thani by air. Air fare round trip may cost $46. From airport you can grab a package from operator for bus and ferry. Package may take 700 Baht. Or you can do it yourself to reduce more cost. So by public bus go to Donsak ferry terminal. Bus fare my take 100 Baht and private taxi may take 1500 baht. Then from Donsak ferry terminal to Koh Samui by any ferry may cost 130 Baht.
By Train: You can reach Surat Thani Station from Bangkok.
Train fare (in Baht) from Bangkok Hua Lamphong Station to Surat Thani, according to different class has given below. So that, you will get an idea.


AC 1st Class: Train Number 31 - 1579 Baht (Lower Bed) and 1379 (Lower Bed), Train 37 - 1379 Baht (Lower Bed) and 1179 (Upper Bed), Train 83 and 85 - 1339 Baht (Lower Bed) and 1139 (Upper Bed).

AC 2nd Class: Train Number 171, 169, 173 and 167 - 728 Baht (Lower Bed) and 658 Baht (Upper Bed), Train 31 - 1008 Baht (Lower Bed) and 908 (Upper Bed), Train 37 - 808 Baht (Lower Bed) and 738 Baht (Upper Bed), Train 83 and 85 - 768 Baht (Lower Bed), 698 Baht (Upper Bed).

2nd Class Fan: Train 171, 169, 173 and 167 - 508 Baht (Lower Bed) and 458 Baht (Upper Bed).

2nd Class Seat:  Train 43 and 39/79 - 608 Baht, Train 171, 169, 173 and 167 - 358 Baht, Train 37 - 438 Baht, Train 83 and 85 - 398 Baht.

3rd Class Seat: Train 171, 169, 173 and 167 - 217 Baht, Train 37 - 297 Baht, Train 85 and 85 - 257 Baht.

From Surat Thani Train Station you can how you want to go to Koh Samui. There is a package from station to Nathon Pier, Koh Samui by bus and Ferry cost around 300 baht. It will take about 3.5 hours to reach.
On the other hand you can go by public bus to Donsak Ferry Terminal. Bus fare may cost 100 Baht. Private taxi may cost 1500 Baht. Then buy ticket for Koh Samui ferry such as Seatran, Raja ferry etc. Fare 130 Baht. In this way you can save few money.

By Bus: You can go to Dansak pier by bus from Bangkok.
There is a company Lomprayah takes 1350 Baht from Bangkok (Khao San) to Koh Samui. Bus starts from Bangkok at 6 AM, 7 PM and 9 PM. About 6 hours journey by bus to Chumphon. From there by high speed ferry will take you to Koh Samui. It takes about 4 hours. Total 12 hours journey. You will also get other cheapest bus within 800 Baht.



Hotels in Koh Samui

The main business of Koh Samui is tourism. So there are lots of hotels. But when you reach at Koh Samui Pier, then you have to go to hotel area first. there are lots of jeep (Songteaw) you will see at the pier. Main tourist area is Chaweng. You can go there and find your hotel.

You can book hotel from the below search engine, which compare Booking.com and other all hotel related website and show the different prices of the same room. So, you can book at the lowest price.
Type your city name "Samui Island". Select your check-in and check-out date and click on search.



There you will find many hostels only at $4.

Early in the morning start for tour by renting scooter or car. So that you can visit all places of Koh Samui in a day. Scooter rent 150 Baht per day.

Fisherman's Village

Every Friday there is an evening market held at the Fisherman’s Village. Many Street food shops.
How to go: It is near Bophut Beach and about 4 km from Chaweng.

How to go: About 5.2 km from Grandfather's rock towards south then turn right towards west via route 4169.


Laem Sor Pagoda

Small golden pagoda. You can omit this place.
How to go: About 8 km from Wat Khunaram towards south.


Namueang Waterfall

Threre are two waterfalls. Namuang-1 and Namuang-2
How to go: Namuang Waterfall-1 is about 2.7 km from Wat Khunaram. Namuang Waterfall-2 is after the elephant park, where you can drive and park for free. You can see some of the elephants and you can ride. And then you can walk 15 minutes to the waterfalls. Entrance fee is 50 Baht for elephant park, but if you walk the left way, you can get to the waterfall for free. So no need to enter into elephant park. Turn left to waterfall.


Lipa Noi Beach

Best place to watch sunset. You can also watch sunset at Nathon pier or Maenam Beach
How to go: It is about 10 km from Na Mueang-1 waterfall via route 4169 towards west.



Note that, if you want to go Marine Park tomorrow, you have to confirm to a operator.


Day-2: Angthong National Marine Park

There are 42 islands of Angthong Marine Park.
There is no regular boat service to/from Marine Park. So the only way to get there by taking a day tour only from Koh Phangan island and Koh Samui island. 
So check and compare prices and of course bargain.
You may get this package within $35.17 + Admission fee 300 Baht for adult and 150 Baht for children.

If you want to stay at Marine Park then confirm with your package operator about your return date.
Food: Restaurant at the park main island is open daily 8 AM to 10 PM. Food is fresh. Cheapest meal is vegetable fried rice at 60 Baht. Delicious meals cost 100-120 Baht.
WiFi: Free internet-WiFi signal is available on the main island Koh Whua Talap.
Kayak: Kayaks and long tail boats are available for rent. Price for rent a kayak for a day is 500 Baht for double or triple kayak.
