How to Reach Padang

By Air: Padang airport (Minangkabau International Airport, IATA Code-PDG). Medan to Padang airfare about $47 and takes about 1 hour 10 minutes.
Buy a cheapest air-ticket from below site. This is my favorite site because it shows the different airline ticket prices of the same flight. So it makes easy for me to buy the lowest price ticket.
Type your travel city name "Padang" in Destination box. Select your depart and return date. If one-way, click on the 'X' in the return date box. Click on search.



By Bus: Bus takes 16 hours to 24 hours from Parapat to Padang.

Tourist Places in Padang

There are few places at hill side area, where you can visit if you have enough time and if you are trekking lover. For this you have to stay at night in hotel near airport in Padang to visit these places. The places are Tapian Puti, Air Terjun Nyarai, Tree House Sarasah Sungai Buluh, Jambak Sand Beach, Christine Hakim Waterpark, Pemandian Alam Sungai Bangek, Lubuak Rantiang.

How to go: It is situated just 500 meters walking distance from Minturun Bridge towards west.

Pemandian Lori Lubuk Minturun

Entry Fee: 500 Rupiah ($0.036).
How to go: 10 Km from Padang City. By Public transport go to Minturun Bridge. From there walk through Jalan Lori Lubuk Minturun along the river bank. Along the way you will may see flowers and fruit seeds sold by the locals.


Ngungun Saok

River Attraction

How to go: From Pemandian Lori Lubuk Minturun walk towards east along the river bank. You will see Henni Adli Minangkabau Art Haute Couture Village and Villa on the left bank of river. Then ABG Water Park. From ABG it is still about 3 km to Ngungun Saok.

Pemandian Lubuk Tampuruang

Waterfall

Pemandian Lubuk Tampuruang means Tampuruang Hole Bath. Waterfall creates a hole, where you can swim and bath. There are 2 huts that offer food.
Best Visiting Time: June to August.
How to go: It is located at the end of the Batang Guo River, Kuranji District, Padang City. From end of the road, you have to walk about 700 meters, passing through rambutan farms and local village.

Grand Mosque

It is the second largest mosque in Sumatra.
How to go: About 1.4 km from west beach towards east.


East Beach Street

Nice beach road.
How to go: From Grand Mosque walk 1.4 km towards west to beach. Then walk along the road from north to south till Taman Budaya.


Taman Budaya

Cultural Heritage

Nice Architectural building for arts.
How to go: Near beach.


Adityawarman Museum

Museum

Construction started in 1974. The museum was inaugurated on March 16, 1977.
How to go: Behind Taman Budaya. About 300 meters walking distance through Pancasila road.


Kelenteng See Hin Kiong

Buddhist Temple

How to go: It is situated at on the Castle Road, Pondok Village, South Padang District.

Old Buildings

Historical sites

During 18th and 19th centuries, Padang became a trading city and military city of the Dutch Government. Along the Batang Arau River to the Muaro Port many old buildings remain witnesses of the colonial period. De Javansche Bank, NHM (Nederlansche Handels-Maatschappij) buildings, NV Internatio and Padangsche Spaarbank dating back to 1920.
Padangsche Spaarbank which was erected in 1908 , later managed the Batang Arau Hotel until 2009. It was famous for foreign tourists surfing to Mentawai.
How to go: Only 80 meters walking distance from Kelenteng See Hin Kiong towards south river "Batang Arau River".


Arau Mini Waterpark

Water park

This is specially for local children.
Visiting Time: 9 AM to 10 PM. Tuesday remains closed.
How to go: Walk about 300 meters from Spaarbank through the bank of river road "Jalan Batang Arau" towards west.



Day-3:

Lubuk Paraku

River

Entry Fee: 5,000 Rupiah ($0.36).
How to go: It is situated at Indarung Village, Lubuk Kilangan District, Padang City. It is located on the road between Padang and Solok City. You can use public transport to Solok City.


* There is a waterfall nearby named Air Terjun Sarasah (Sarasah Waterfall). If you want you can go.

Taman Siti Nurbaya

Park

Visiting Time: 6 AM to 6 PM.
How to go: From Arau Mini Waterpark walk west and cross Siti Nurbaya bridge. the walk along the river bank towards west.


Pantai Air Manis

Beach

How to go: About 3.5 km from Taman Siti Nurbaya towards south along the beach road.

Pantai Nirwana

Beach

There is a park named Taman Nirwana.
How to go: About 6 km from Pantai Air Manis towards south along the beach road.


Carlos Beach

Beach

How to go: About 10 km from Pantai Nirwana towards south along the beach road.

Yangi beach

Beach

There is cafe. Nice view for sunset.
How to go: Near Carlos Beach.


Air Terjun Lubuk Hitam

Waterfall

How to go: It is situated at Bungus District about 25 km south of Padang City.  Go towards south about 1.2 km from Yangi beach through Padang-Painan Road. The entrance to the area is a small road to the left of Padang-Painan Road. There are no special gates or sign so visitors must be careful. You may see "Seven Sources, Malawi Waterfall" signboard). After go through the road past the village and enter the forest. Now you have to walk about 10 minutes. There are 3 waterfalls.
The third waterfall distance from the second waterfall is about 400 meters, it takes 30-40 minutes. The path is more challenging because it has to conquer the ramp and descent with a slope of almost 45 degrees. Must take drinking water.



Day-4:

Pasumpahan Island

The water surface of this island as divided into three colors - clear, green and blue.
How to go: From Pisang river, Padang by boat or speedboat about 40 minutes at a cost of 35,000 Rupiah – 50,000 Rupiah per person round-trip.


There are few more islands near Pasumpahan Island such as Sirandah Island, Panggang Island and many more.
