How to Reach Banyuwangi
By Air: Banyuwangi International Airport (IATA Code - BWX) is an airport at Blimbingsari, about 17 km from Banyuwangi town.Buy a cheapest air-ticket from below site. This is my favorite site because it shows the different airline ticket prices of the same flight. So it makes easy for me to buy the lowest price ticket.
Type your travel city name "Banyuwangi" in Destination box. Select your depart and return date. If one-way, click on the 'X' in the return date box. Click on search.
By road: From Bali to Gilimanuk ferry by bus cost not more than 70,000 Rupiah ($5). It takes about 4 hours. From Gilimanuk to Ketapang by ferry takes about 8000 Rupiah ($0.57). Ferry takes 30 minutes to reach Ketapang. From Ketapang, go to Banyuwangi city center by public bus. Fare about 20000 Rupiah ($1.43).
From Yogyakarta or Surabaya or Probolinggo, you will get bus or train to reach Banyuwangi.

Tourist Places in Banyuwangi
There is only one must visited place in Banyuwangi and that is Mount Ijen.Day-1:

Active Sulfur VolcanoYou will get many packages offer for Ijen tour from you hotel at Yogyakarta or Surabaya or Probolinggo or Banyuwangi. Their price are so high according to place. From Probolinggo, package may demands 850,000 ($60.83). If you are not budget traveler, just bargain the price and go with it.
Those who want to go alone without tour package and obviously the cheapest way, I'm giving an idea for them.
Ijen volcano is accessed by either Banyuwangi or Bondowoso. Those who are coming from Bali, Banyuwagi is convenient. Those are coming from Yogyakarta or Surabaya or Probolinggo, then Bondowoso is more convenient.

Ferry takes 30 minutes to reach Ketapang. From Ketapang, go to Banyuwangi city center by public bus. Fare about 20,000 Rupiah ($1.43). Stay at the city for the midnight tour to ijen. Now you can visit many ways -
Option-1: The cheapest way is to rent motorbike if you are solo or two in a group. It cost about 65,000 Rupiah ($4.65) per day without fuel. Also rent gas mask from them or in the city. Mask rent cost here is about 25,000 Rupiah ($1.79), which will take at the basecamp is 75,000 Rupiah ($5.37) or more. By bike, drive to the Paltuding, the basecamp of Ijen. Then walk. If you are more people in a group, it will be better to hire car with driver to take you to Paltuding (the basecamp of Ijen) and back. It may cost with driver 600,000 Rupiah ($43).
Option-2: If you are unable to ride motorbike, then you can go by the miners truck, which leaves from PT. Candi Ngrimbi at 7 AM and 11 AM to Paltuding (the basecamp of Ijen) every day except friday. They takes 10,000 Rupiah ($0.72) per person. But you will miss the blue fire of Ijen during the dark. So it's not recommended. If you can stay at Paltuding then its okay. There is a hotel near Paltiduing.
From West: Go to Bondowoso from Yogyakarta or Surabaya or Probolinggo. There is a morning mini bus service from Bondowoso to Sempol. Bus takes about 2.5 hours and fare 35,000 Rupiah ($2.51). If you somehow miss the mini-bus from Bondowoso to Sempol, you can stay at Bondowoso. Hotel also offer Ijen tour, which is very lower cost. Reserve car price about 650,000 Rupiah ($46.52). Per person 50,000 Rupiah ($3.58). Very Cheap.
At Sempol, you can stay at Arabica hostel, which is the budget hotel and about 1 km from bus stop. Paltuding (the basecamp of Ijen) is about 8.7 km from Sempol. So It will be better to manage return ride to the basecamp. No guide needed.
From Paltuding (the basecamp of Ijen), everybody have to walk. Don't think that you are alone. So you need no guide for that. There is only one single road leads to Ijen. No chance to be lost. So guide is here absolutely for nothing. Just waste of money. Just bring torch. Cause you have to trek in the dark towards up on mountain Kawah Ijen.
There is a entry fee at the gate. Weekdays - 100,000 Rupiah ($7.16) and weekend 150,000 Rupiah ($10.74) for foreigner.
while you are treking to Ijen, don't miss the gazillion of stars in the sky. Before the Sunrise you have to see the Blue Fire from a distance over the lake. Then view the sunrise. After that you will see the beautiful lake. There is a Waterfall around the Ijen Crater. Don't miss how the Sulfer miners doing their job, coffee plantations.
