Gateway of India Mumbai

Monument

26 meters high monument was built to commemorate the arrival of King-Emperor George V and Queen-Empress Mary on 2 December 1911. The monument couldn't built at that time. A cardboard model was setup at this place. Later the construction was started on 31st March 1913 and finished in 1924. The gateway was opened to the public on 4th December 1924.
Elephanta Island boat is leaving from here. West side of the gate is The Taj Mahal Palace, a 5-star hotel.
How to go: Gateway is about 500 meters from National Gallery of Modern Art towards southeast through Shiva Marg. By bus 111 and 112 that depart from Mumbai CST and Ahilyabai Holkar Chowk.

How to go: Starts from south end of Holy Name High School (west end) and ends at south side of The Taj Mahal Palace hotel (east end).

Elephanta Island

Visiting Time: 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM. Monday remains closed.
How to go: Island is accessible by 1 hour ferry ride from Gateway of India Mumbai. Fare 150 Rupee
($2.01) for round trip. Ferry leaves every half an hour from Gateway of India Mumbai from 9 AM to 2 PM. From Elephanta Island, the boat leaves for Gateway from 12.30 PM to 5.30 PM.

There are few caves in the island. Cave 1 or the Great Cave, Canon Hill for Caves 2 to 5, Stupa Hills for Cave 6 and 7.

How to go: From Elephanta Island ferry port, you can walk 1 km or take a toy train to the base of the hill. Toy train fare 10 rupee per person. Then you have to go 120 steps up on the hill to reach the Great Cave.

Marine Drive

Banganga Tank

The Tank was built in 1127. It was rebuilt in 1715.
There is a story regarding this place is "Lord Ram, stopped at this place in search of his kidnapped wife Sita. Ram asked his brother Lakshman some water. Laxman shot an arrow into the ground, and Ganga water start to flow over a thousand miles away from the ground. Thats why the name of the place is Banganga (Baan means Arrow, so Ganga created by an arrow)".
The place is now like a pool surrounded by stair. Walkeshwar Temple and the Parshuram Temple are also located at this place.
How to go: It is located about 1.6 km from south end of Hanging Gardens towards south at 40, Banganga Cross lane, Teen Batti, Malabar Hill.

The first temple was built in 1780. Later the bigger temple was built in 1890. It was the tallest structure in Mumbai at that time.

It is the Mumbai headquarters of Mahatma Gandhi from 1917 to 1934. Two-storied building is now a museum and Library.

Haji Ali Dargah

It was built in 1431 in the memory of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. Haji Ali was a Sufi saint, was born in Uzbekistan. He came to Mumbai and start to spread Islam until his death.
Now-a-days people go to shrine and want for them something to the dead person, it is against Islam. Playing songs with instrument at that place is also against Islam. You can visit the place to show respect the dead person, but don't pay any money.
How to go: It is located about 750 meters from Shree Mahalakshmi Temple towards north at Dargah road, Haji Ali.


Nehru Planetarium

Siddhi Vinayak Ganapati Mandir

Aksa Beach

How to go: It is located at the South end of Marvé Beach.

Madh Fort

It was built by the Portuguese as a watchtower in the 17th century. Later captured by Maratha empire in February 1739.
How to go: It is located about 5.5 km from Aksa Beach towards south. About 2 km walk from Madh Mandir bus stop.

The hill is about 66-million-year-old and 200 feet in height. There are 2 Hindu temples on the top - Gaodevi and Durgamata.
How to go: It is located about 500 meters from Andheri Railway Station towards west. The top of the hill can be accessed by a staircase.

International Society for Krishna Consciousness was built in 1978.
How to go: About 2 km from Gilbert hill towards west and near Juhu Beach.
