Berlin Wall Memorial

Germany was divided into East Germany and West Germany in 1961. One side was the Soviet-controlled sector and the other was the French sector. Communist East-Germany was built a Wall that separated East and West Germany on August 13, 1961. The wall was built between the districts of Wedding and Mitte on the Bernauer street in Berlin. Suddenly East people couldn't meet with west people after the wall. About 140 were killed, who tried to pass the wall.
The first segments of the wall were broken off in the night from the 10th to the 11th of November 1989. The people of the East and West Germany were reunited again. 800 meters Berlin Wall preserved in the park today as a monument for the memory of division and commemorate the people were killed.

Schonhausen Palace

Palace

In 1664, Sophie Theodore built a manor. In 1680, Minister Joachim Ernst von Grumbkow acquired the land. In 1691, his wife sold it to Frederick III. Frederick III remodeled the manor into palace in 1693. The palace became royal residence of Elisabeth Christine, wife of King Frederick II of Prussia. After war in 1760, te Palace was rebuilt in its current form. in 1763. In 1920, it was opened to the public.

Bellevue Palace

Palace

In 1743, first a manor house was built. Later in 1786, Prince Augustus Ferdinand of Prussia, was built the palace as a summer residence. In 1843, King Frederick William IV of Prussia acquired the land. In 1865, became the residence of Princess Alexandrine, the niece of King Frederick William IV. From 1928, the Palace was used as a museum. In 1938, it was a guest house of government. After the world war damage, it renovated several times. After renovation in 1994, it became the primary residence of President Richard von Weizsäcker. Southern wing was added in 1998.
How to go: It is located at the right hand side (west) after crossing the bridge towards Tiergarten.


Victory Column

27 feet high monument was inaugurated on 2 September 1873 to commemorate the Prussian victory in the Danish-Prussian War.

Cafe am neuen: Beer Garden is located 250 meters from Teehaus towards west.

Fauler See: Lake is located  about 280 meters from Cafe am neuen towards south.

Soviet War Memorial: Monument was unveiled on 11 November 1945 to commemorate the 80,000 soldiers who died during the Battle of Berlin 1945. It is located about 200 meters from Goldfischteich towards northeast.

Carillon

Tower

42 meters instrumental tower comprising 68 bells. It is the fourth largest (by number of bells) in the world. Every Sunday at 3 PM plays concerts on the carillon.

Brandenburg Gate: The Brandenburg Gate was one of eighteen gates within the Berlin Customs Wall, erected in the 1730s. The new gate was built in 1791 by Frederick William II of Prussia, replacing the original gate. It is located about 300 meters from Reichstag Building towards southeast. It is the main entrance of the park.

Memorial to the Murdered Jews

It consists of 2,711 concrete slabs was built on 15 December 2004 and inaugurated on 10 May 2005 to honor the six million Jews who murdered in the Holocaust (the World War II genocide of the European Jews between 1941 and 1945).

Fuhrerbunker

Fuhrerbunker was a war shelter constructed in 1936 and 1944 used by Adolf Hitler during World War II. It became the temporary residence of Hitler on 16 January 1945. Hitler married Eva Braun there on 29 April 1945. The buildings were levelled by the Soviets in 1945-1949.

The Palace was inaugurated on 11 July 1699 by by Sophie Charlotte, the wife of Friedrich I.

How to go: By metro to Jungfernheide, Then walk, turned left (twice) walk up the steps and cross the bridge into the gardens. By bus M45, from the Zoo train station to a stop just in front of the palace.

Funkturm Berlin

150 meters high radio tower later inclued restaurant at 52 meters and observation deck at 125 meters.
Visiting Time: Tuesday to Friday - 2 PM to 10 PM. Saturday to Sunday - 11 AM to 10 PM.

Spandau Citadel

The fort was built in 1559-1594. During the battle in Berlin, the citadel was acted as the city's defenses.
It has been used as a museum and occasionally open air concert venue since 2005.

Pfaueninsel

Island

Also called Peacock Island in the Havel River is the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The ferry terminal is located at the south of the island. A white color castle was built under Friedrich Wilhelm II at the end of the 18th century is located few meters away from the jetty. Entry Fee inside castle is 6 euros. Meierei (farm) is located about 1.5 km from the castle towards west side of the island. .
How to go: It is located in Steglitz-Zehlendorf district in southwestern Berlin near Potsdam. You have to cross by ferry. It costs 4 euros ($4.72) for round trip.

Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum

Berlin Cathedral

According to Wikipedia, Prince Frederick II shifted his residence from Brandenburg to today's Fishers' Island in 1451. There also built a Catholic chapel. Frederick II established the chapel into a parish church in 1454 and Collegiate Church on 7 April 1465. New building with two towers was built to the collegiate church in 1538 by Prince Joachim II. In 1608, Prince John Sigismund renamed the church was "Supreme Parish Church of Holy Trinity in Colln". In 1747, the Supreme Parish Church was completely demolished for the extension of Berlin Palace.
The new Supreme Parish Church was built in 1747–1750 by Johann Boumann and inaugurated on 6th September 1750 north of the palace. In 1893, Boumann's building was demolished and the present Supreme Parish and Cathedral Church was built and inaugurated on 27 February 1905 by Emperor William II. The reconstruction of church was started in 1975 due to war damaged. Later in 1984, the restoration of the church began and inagurated on 6 June 1993.

Berlin Palace

The first castle was built in 1443-1451 by Frederick II. In 1538, Joachim II demolished the castle and later in 1747, the Supreme Parish Church was completely demolished for the extension of Berlin Palace. Reconstruction of the palace started in 2013 and completed in 2020.
