Shimla is bounded by Mandi and Kullu in the north, Kinnaur in the northeast, Uttarakhand state on the southeast, Sirmaur district on the south. Solan district to the west.

Viceregal Lodge

Historical Architecture

Also known as Rastrapati Niwas. The Viceregal Lodge construction started in 1880 and was completed in 1888 in British period. In the mid 1960’s when Indian Presidents used the lodge as their summer retreat. Now the part of the building are using as The Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), which is a research institute. Ministry of Education, Government of India setup this in 1964 and it started functioning from 20 October 1965.
How to go: Rastrapati Niwas is about 4 km away from Mall road and 2 km away from rail station, Shimla. The road leads to via Himalaya Bird Park.

Gorton Castle

Scandal Point

Historical Place

The name of the Scandal Point still the mystery. No one can knows the original truth. Most of the people know the history is that there was a king of Patiala, named Bhupinder Singh, who eloped with British Viceroy’s daughter in 1892 at this point. So that Bhupinder Singh was banned by the British from entering Shimla. So this point name is Scandal Point.
But history says that at that time Bhupinder Singh age was only one year old.
So it can be another story is that about King Rajindra Singh, father of Bhupinder Singh. From a record, it says that Rajindra Singh had an English wife and a son. But no record for that where his wife and son disappeared.
So the name of Scandal Point is still in mystery.
