So the area adjacent to this street is full of hotels and restaurants. Sometimes the locals call it "Bangladeshi Para (Area)". There are many money exchange shops where you can exchange in US Dollar or Bangladeshi Taka into Indian Rupee. New Market is located nearby. New Market Area

New Market was built and opened on 1 January 1874. Sir Stuart Hogg, the then Chairman of the Calcutta Corporation, expressed his support for the construction of Newmarket. The market was later officially named Sir Stuart Hogg Market on 2 December 1903.
How to go: From the corner of Marquis street and Mirza Ghalib Street, walk about 250 meters towards north through Mirza Galib Street. Then turn left (west), just opposite of "Khadya Bhaban". The road is called Lindsay street. Walk 100 meters and you will reach New Market in Dharmatala.


Rani Rashmoni Bhawan

Rani Rashmoni (28 September 1793 – 19 February 1861) was the founder of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, Kolkata. She was a pillar of strength in the male dominated society. She was married to Babu Raj Chandra Das (Marh), when she was eleven years old. Babu Chandra was a member of a wealthy zamindar family  of Janbazar, Kolkata. Rani Rashmoni's father-in-law, Pritaram Das, started constructing this house in 1805. They had four daughters – Padmamoni, Kumari, Karunamoyee and Jagodomba.
Visiting Time: Monday to Friday  - 9 AM to 5 PM. Sunday - 24 hours. Saturday remains closed.

Netaji Bhawan

The house was built by the father of the Indian nationalist "Netaji" Subhas Chandra Bose (23 January 1897 – 18 August 1945) in 1909.
Bose escaped from house arrest at Netaji Bhawan in 1941 and fled to Berlin, Germany. After that, he traveled to Japan. He organized Indian National Army, and fought against British Raj with the Imperial Japanese Army.

Victoria Memorial

In January 1901, on the death of Empress Victoria, it was built to commemorate her. The Prince of Wales, laid the foundation stone on 4 January 1906. The memorial was completed in 1921.

Also known as the Second Hooghly Bridge over Hoogly river, connects Kolkata and Howrah district. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Indira Gandhi on 20 May 1972. The bridge was completed and opened on 10 October 1992.
How to go: It is located about 2 km from Alipore Zoological Garden towards north at the northwest side of Fort William (Restricted Area).

Raj Bhavan

Governor Residence

Raj Bhavan is the official residence of the Governor of West Bengal. It was built in 1803.
Entry is restricted. A request for visit to Raj Bhavan can be made to the Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of West Bengal clearly indicating the preferred date of the visit, purpose and the number of persons. The request shall clearly mention the address and contact number of the applicant. Foreign nationals should enclose a photocopy of their passport along with the request. Visiting Time - 11 AM to 12:30 AM. Entry to Raj Bhavan for visitors will be through North Gate of Raj Bhavan, facing the Telephone Bhavan. Visitors have to carry their valid Government Photo ID cards and Foreign visitors have to carry photocopies of their passport and the original on the day of their visit. A maximum 10 persons are allowed in a group except children sponsored by their school. Mobile phones and cameras are not permitted. You have to deposit all at security check post.

St John's Church

General Post Office (G.P.O.)

The present building was built in 1864-1868.

Writers Building

It is was built in 1777-1780. It was the first three-storey building in Kolkata.
The building initially opened with 19 residential quarters. Fort William College moved to this building and used it for next more than 20 years. The Government College of Engineering functioned from here for some time in 1830. It was used as a Railway Headquarter from 1871–74.
Visiting Time: The entry into the main building is prohibited to visitors other than employees. Visitors can see the building from outside.
How to go: It is located north of Lal Dighi and about 120 meters from G.P.O. towards north at Binoy Badal Dinesh Bag N, Lal Dighi, B.B.D. Bagh.


St. Andrew's Church

Mullick Ghat Flower Market

It is said that this is Asia’s biggest Flowers market and they delivering flowers all over in India. The main beauty is that it is situated on the bank of Hooghly River and very near to Howrah Bridge. The view of Howrah Bridge with flowers is nice.
How to go: Only 900 meters from Millennium Park or Fairley Place towards Howrah Bridge.


Howrah Bridge

Bridge

Howrah Bridge was built in 1943 over Hooghly River to connect between Kolkata and Howrah district. It renamed Rabindra Setu on 14th June 1965. But it is still popular as Howrah Bridge.
It is said that Howrah Bridge is famous for its’ massive steel structure which is considered as one of the longest cantilever bridges of its type in the world.
Remember that, photo session on Howrah Bridge is strictly prohibhited.
How to go: From anywhere you can go to Howrah Bridge by bus.

How to go: Nearest Metro station from Marble Palace is Mahatma Gandhi Road Metro Station. Marble Palace is about 300 meters away from the station. It is 220 meters from Thakur Bari gate towards south then turn left to Muktaram Babu Street and walk 260 meters.


Jorasanko Thakur Bari

Museum

Nilmoni Tagore (1721–1791) (grandfather of Dwarakanath Tagore) left his paternal house of Pathuriaghata. The Sett family of barabazar donated him a piece of land. He started to build a small house in 1758. He had three sons, Ramlochan Tagore (1759-1804), Rammoni Tagore (1759-1833) and Rambullav Tagore (1767-1824). Rammoni Tagore had three sons, Radhanath Tagore, Dwarkanath Tagore (1794–1846) and Ramanath Tagore. Ramlochan Tagore had no son, so he adopted Dwarakanath Tagore.
Dwarakanath Tagore (1794–1846) (grandfather of Rabindranath Tagore), is credited with expanding this existing family house into the present structure. He had 3 sons, Debendranath Tagore (15 May 1817 – 19 January 1905) and Girindranath Tagore (1820–1854) and Nagendranath. Nagendranath died young and had no child.
Girindranth Tagore (1820–1854) had 2 sons - Ganendranath and Gunendranath (1847–81). Ganendranath had no child. Gunendranath's children were – Gaganendranath Tagore (17 September 1867-14 February 1938) (paternal great-grandfather of actress Sharmila Tagore), Samarendranath, Abanindranath Tagore (1871–1951), Binayini Devi and Sunayani Devi (1875–1962).
Debendranath Tagore (15 May 1817 – 19 January 1905) (father of Rabindranath Tagore) was the founder of the Brahmo religion in 1848. He married to Sarada Devi (1821-1875). He had 14 children

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), the most famous in Tagore family. He was the first Asian to win a Nobel Prize. Rabindranath is best remembered in history for his 2 songs became the national anthems of 2 countries, India and Bangladesh. Bichitra Bhavan, built in 1897, is located on the west of Maharshi Bhavan and was built by Rabindranath himself. He was born and spent most of his childhood and died on 7th August 1941 at this place.
The environment at Jorasanko was filled with literature, music, painting, and theater. Jorasanko Thakur Bari is now houses the Rabindra Bharati University. There is a museum in the premises.

Famous Coffee shop was started in 1942. It became the favorite meeting place for the notable persons from 1947. The Central Government changed the name of the place to Coffee House. It is more widely known for the famous song “Coffee House'er shei addata aaj aar nei” by Manna Dey.

Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda's

Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday - 10 AM to 12:30 PM and 2 PM to 5:30 PM. Monday remains closed.
How to go: It is located about 700 meters from Raja Rammohun Roy Memorial Museum towards northwest at 105, Vivekananda road, Manicktala, Azad Hind Bag.


Sovabazar Rajbari

Royal Palace

Maharaja Nabakrishna Deb (1737–97) built this house around 1757. Raja Nabakrishna Deb built two houses. The building at 35 Raja Nabakrishna Street (Shobhabazar) and another on the northern side of the road at 33 Raja Nabakrishna Street (Choto Rajbari).
How to go: It is located about 1.3 km from Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda's towards northwest at 36, Raja Naba Krishna street, Raja Nabakrishna Street, Sovabazar, Shyam Bazar.


Kolkata Railway Station

Train Station

Previously known as Chitpur station. It was built and opened in 2006. Tourists may exclude this place as a tourist destination but Bangladeshi tourists should visit this station. Because, AC train runs directly between Dhaka Dhaka, Bangladesh and this Chitpur station.
How to go: It is located about 2 km from Sovabazar Rajbari towards northeast.
