Kinnaur is the district in Himachal Pradesh state in India.

Kinnaur is bounded by Lahaul-Spiti district on the north, China on the east, Uttrakhand state on the south, Shimla district on the southwest, and Kullu district on the northwest.



How to reach Kinnaur

Reckong Peo is the capital of Kinnaur district. So you can think Reckong Peo as your base. You can come to Reckong Peo from Simla, Kullu or Kaza of Lahaul Spiti District by direct bus.
Nearest Airport is at Kullu and Shimla.

Day-1: Nako

Nako Lake

The lake is situated at an altitude of about 3,662 meters (12,014 feet).
How to go: It is situated at Nako village.

* From Nako village, you also can view Reo Purgyil, the highest mountain peak in Himachal Pradesh. Elevation of 6816 meters (22362 feet)


Day-2:

Labrang Monestery

How to go: It is situated at Labrang village, Kinnaur, 41 km from Nako village.

Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary

Wildlife Sanctuary

Moorang village is 23 km away from Labrang village and 33 km from reckong Peo. There is an ancient ruined fort in the Moorang.
There are three wildlife Sanctuary in Kinnaur. They are

• Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary
• Rakchham-Chhitkul Sanctuary
• Rupi-Bhaba Sanctuary

Lipa-Asrang Sanctuary is accessible from Moorang village. It is spread across 40 Km of area.
How to go: It is situated at 28 km from Morang and can be reached by a motorable road up to Jangi village. After that you have to go by foot.


Day-3:

Rarang Monestery

How to go: It is situated at Rarang village, Kinnaur. Rarang village is about 23.7 km away from Moorang village towards reckong Peo.

How to go: It is situated at Kothi in Kalpa, kinnaur.

Brelengi Gompa

How to go: Brelengi Gompa is situated at Reckong Peo, Kinnaur.

How to go: It is situated at Kalpa, Kinnaur. About 3.5 km uphill from Brelengi Monastery. Near PWD Rest house at Kalpa.


Day-4

Chaka Peak

Chaka peak with an altitude of 15000 feet. The uphill journey is almost 2-3 hours. Start your trek in the morning at 9 AM along the water channel..
How to go: It is situated at Kalpa, Kinnaur. About 3.5 km uphill from Brelengi Monastery.

If you want to trek to Kailash top then go to Tangling Village and stay at night.

Day-5&6:

Kinnaur Kailash

Mountain

Also called Kinner Kailash by locals. It is believed by Hindu religion that, Lord Shiva met with Gods and Goddesses at Kailash mountain peak every winter. For this reason every year during this time devotees of Lord Shiva visit on the top of mountain.
This is an excellent view from this mountain. So nature lover must visit the top. There is a very small glacial lake known as Parvati Kund before the top.
Best time to visit: You can avoid May to July due to rainfall. So August to October is the best time to visit there.
How to go: The starting point of this trail is Tangling Village (base camp) on elevation of 7050 feet. Top of the mountain is 14 km uphill, elevation of 19850 feet. From tangiling, you can either take the route of Jhoola Pul hanging bridge or Shongtong Bridge. After 7-10 km, you will find a place where you will get food and tents to stay. Farther up on the hill you will find cave. You can stay the night at cave too. Then you have to climb little tough road about 2.5 km.


Day-7: Sangla Valley

How to go: It is situated at 3 km away from Kalpa at Roghi village.

Located at a height of around 2600 meters.
How to go: 2 km away from Sangla valley.

Tibetan Monastery

The monastery was built on the occasion of Kalachakra Festival in 1992.
How to go: It is situated at Sangla Valley.


Day-8: Chitkul

How to go: It is situated at Chitkul.

Baspa River

How to go: It is not far from Mathi Temple.


Note that, From Kinnaur, your next destination can be Kaza in Lahaul-Spiti or Shimla. You will get direct bus from Reckong Peo for both places.
