The museum has 3 gallery buildings containing a world-class collection of American automobiles, American folk art and a carousel. The Looff Carousel carousel was made in 1908 in Riverside, Rhode Island for an amusement park in Meridian, Mississippi. It was changed hands a few times, and was finally purchased by Heritage Museums & Gardens founder Josiah Lilly in 1968. It was opened to the public in 1972.
There is huge collection of thousands of rhododendrons which blooms from Memorial Day Weekend to mid-June.
There is a windmill, which was built in Orleans, Massachusetts in 1800. It was restored in 1999–2000. An adventure park was added in 2015.

The Crosby Mansion

Albert Crosby was born in 1823 and raised in a house that still stands where the mansion is. The mansion was built in 1888. The mansion was designed for the entertaining his young wife, Matilda.
After Albert’s death in 1906, Matilda opened the art gallery to the public.

Godfrey Windmill

It was built by Colonel Benjamin Godfrey on Mill Hill east of Atwood Street in 1797. Christopher Taylor inherited the mill in 1819. The mill was sold to Oliver Eldredge in 1865. The mill sold to different hands. Finally it was sold to Stuart and Helen Crocker in 1939. Donated to the town of Chatham by Mr. and Mrs. Crocker with the condition that the mill be moved off the Crocker property

Three Sisters Lighthouses

The first three 15-foot lighthouses were built by Congress in 1837. They gained the name “The Three Sisters”. A keeper house was built in 1875. Towers were replaced in 1892, and each built 30 feet west of their original sites.
The center tower was moved away from the cliff edge and attached to the keeper’s house in 1911. Later the canceled two towers were sold to Helen M. Cummings at a public auction. In 1920, the towers were moved onto Cable Road. The “Twin Lights Cottage” was subsequently used as a summer cottage and a dance studio, until the towers were sold to the National Park Service in 1965. Once decommissioned, the last of the Three Sisters towers was sold to Albert Hall, who turned it into a cottage, until the tower was sold to the National Park Service in 1975.
In 1983, the National Park Service moved the Three Sisters 1,800 feet west. A restoration was completed in 1989 and opened to the public.

Highland Lighthouse

It was first built in 1797 with a wood lighthouse. It was replaced by brick tower in 1833. A new lantern and lighting apparatus was installed in 1840. The lighthouse was demolished in 1857 and the current 66-foot brick tower was constructed. The lighthouse was converted to electric operation in 1932.
The structure was moved 450 feet to the west in July, 1996. The keeper's house was modified to be a gift shop and museum.

Pilgrim Monument

Pilgrim Monument was built between 1907 and 1910 to commemorate the first landfall of the Mayflower Pilgrim in 1620.
Mayflower was an English ship that transported a group of English families, known today as the Pilgrims. With about 65 passengers, Mayflower left London in mid-July 1620 and arrived in Southampton, Hampshire. From there, Mayflower and another ship, Speedwell, set sail for the United States on August 5. On the way, "Speedwell" ship technical problem, both ships returned to Plymouth, England, where 20 Speedwell passengers joined the now overcrowded Mayflower. Mayflower sailed alone from Plymouth, England on September 16, 1620 with 102 passengers and about 30 crew. Mayflower arrived in Plymouth, United States on November 21, 1620, after a severe storm at sea.
The Pilgrims spent five weeks exploring Cape Cod before they sailed to Plymouth, Massachusetts.
