How to go: From Sunamganj town, go to Jamalganj Sub-district. At Sachna Bazar you will find this place.
Day-2: Tahirpur
Get up early in the morning. The target is Tanguar haor and Takerghat. So need to go Tahirpur.
After breakfast. we hired a rickshaw to Shaheb Bari Ghat. Fare 10 taka.
Then a Engine boat took 10 taka to Monipur ghat. Maximum takes 30 minutes to reach. On the way view also looks nice.
From Monipur ghat there are only two transports are available. Motorcycle. Two person can ride. I don’t know the fare. Maybe 200
Another transport is Leguna (tempo type). As per my opinion 2nd transport is preferable. So i preferred Leguna. We seated at the front.
From Monipur ghat to Tahirpur, at that time middle place is called Shaktiar Khola, was broken. We had to walk and cross that place by foot. Then by another Leguna from other side took us to Tahirpur. First journey takes 40 taka and after the broken road another leguna took 35 Taka to Tahirpur. If you found road okay then it may take 75 Taka for total journey
We started from Monipur ghat at 9.30 AM and reached at tahirpur at 11.30AM. almost 2 hours.
My suggestion is to stay at Tahirpur. Stay at took a hotel at Tahirpur then start for the next tour Tanguar Haor.
Accommodation in Tahirpur
Accommodation in Tahirpur is so poor. There is no hotel in Tahirpur, only a Govt. rest house. Cheap rent, cheap place. But don’t worry about that, you will spend only in night. Rest house fare maybe 50 taka per bed. I saw 2 beds in a room. I used only washroom, not so bad. From here we went to bazaar by walking. The ghat is in Lamar Bazar (local people called). From here you can visit the places in Tahirpur
Tanguar Hoar
WetlandsThe total size is about 7,000 acres. along with ridge forests, Hijal cork forest, in the rainy season, the area of the whole haor increase to approximately 20,000 acres.
How to go: In rainy season you can go directly from Shaheb Bari Ghaat in the town by engine boat. It will take 5 hours. From Lamar Bazar, Tahirpur you have to hire a Engine Boat. It is expensive. They will ask 3000 Taka. So bargain and fix amount 1200-2000 Taka. On the other hand you can go Tanguar Haor from Takerghat. 7 km away from Taker Ghat Limestone Query.
Day-3: Takerghat
Start bag and baggage for Takerghat
Takerghat
The most attractive place to me is Takerghat. No need to hire the boat. There are available Engine Boat goes to Notunbazar. Fare per person 40. We went there by Engine-boat.On Rainy season, on the way you may see boat. That is not a ordinary boat. That is learning center for flood effected students who cannot go to school due to flood. This is called "Brac Shikkha Tori"
They had dropped us to Puran Bazar (one stoppage before of Notunbazar) also called Dumper Bazar. It takes almost 2 hours. We crossed Sonir Haor and Matiar Haor to reach Dumper Bazar, Takerghat.
We took a tea break. Then went to Taker ghat. The only way to go there by hiring a motorcycle. They took 30 Taka (need to bargain. They will ask more) to "Taker Ghat" one way. But we hired to show us certain places and gave him 180 Taka. He showed us few places I have described here, Now you can go these places by yourself without any help from "Taker Ghat".
Here is our Honda Driver Sohel. Nice driver. He showed us the nice places.
Don't worry about one way ride, cause you will get enough rides to back from Takerghat.
From Takerghat stand go left. You will find a small bridge. Cross the bridge go few minutes ahead and turn right. You will find the nice place. But don’t stay more and know the time table from local people to go. This is no-mans land. The hills you are watching in India.
From here you also can go to Tanguar Haor about 13 Kilometer ahead.
From Takerghat stand go right. Go few minutes ahead and turn left in front of a monument. You will found the best place from my view. Limestone Query. Little blue lake surrounded by green.
From here you can go few meters ahead a place called Borchola. You will find Coal Mining Project. Nothing to see there
Go ahead few meters, you will find another small lake. Another nice view.
Barik Tila
You can walk 8 killometers away from Limestone Query called Barik tila. We didn’t went there due to shortage of time.Jadukata River
Near Barik tila you will find a river called Judukata river. Nice for its bluish water.Shimul Baagan (শিমুল)
Silk cotton GardenThis garden area is about 100 Bigha. Must see in Spring Season.
How to go: It is on the bank of Jadukata River.
Lauer Garh
A Small VillageBesides Jadukata River there is a small village name Lauer Garh. Everyyear after 13 days from Hindu Dol PUrnima 3days fair set at this village.
At night stay at Borochhora, 40 minutes walking road from Barikka Tila.
Accommodation in Borochhora
There is rest house at Borochhora. 200-400 Taka.I heard after 5 PM Leguna closed from Tahirpur to Monipurghat, Sunamganj. Then the only transport will be Motor Cycle. So whatever you do, come back Tahirpur before 5 PM.
Dolura Memorial
Memory marks of the war of Bangladesh in 1971. In 1973, the memorial built to keep the memory of 48 martyrs.
Day-4: Chhatak
There are nothing to visit in chhatak. But if anyone want to go, only direct bus from Dhaka is Shyamoli Paribahan.
We went to Chhatak from Sunamganj. After breakfast we hired a auto rickshaw for New bus stand. Fare 10 taka per person. There we found a direct bus for chhatak. Fare 75 Taka. Bus delayed too much and started at 11 AM and reached at 2 PM. Almost 3 hours for 78 Km distance due to its dozens of station. But it will be better if you go by Sylhet bus and it will drop you at Govindaganj. Fare 65 taka and from there go to Chhatak by a shared CNG. Fare 30 taka per person. It will be faster.
From Sylhet to Chhatak is easier to go than Sunamgonj. Only 36 Km from Sylhet. CNG starts from collectorate Mosque of Sylhet Zindabazar. Fare 50 taka.
Lafarge Ghaat
From Chhatak Bus Stand we hired a rickshaw for 10 taka to Lafarge ghat. There you will see a ferry to cross the river. Though we had a official visit to Lafarge we crossed by Lafarge’s own Engine boat. The sunset view of ferry ghat is nice.Shiv Bari temple
From back to Lafarge Ferry ghat to Chhatak bus stand, we found a temple from half km away from the ferry ghat of Lafarge. We went there. Nothing special but you can visit this temple.Remember, bus for Sunamganj close after 5 PM. So after that you have to hire a shared CNG to Govindaganj. 30 taka each. Then from Govindaganj you will find bus which took 65 taka to Sunamganj and Leguna Car takes 30 taka to Sylhet.
