Transportaion in Dhaka

You need to know, how you will travel within Dhaka. This is the vital things for budget traveler. There are many ways to travel in the city.
1. Own car or bike
2. Rent micro bus or car: You have to rent for the whole day.
3. Uber: You can hire Uber online. The best way for foreign travelers. No hassle to bargain with fare. Just call online and go to your destination. For this, you need to download Uber app in your mobile.
4. Pathao: Solo traveler can hire Motor cycle instead of Uber. Which is comparatively cheaper. It will be good for budget traveler.
5. CNG or Ricksha: You can hire CNG or Ricksha. For this you have to bargain with fare.
6. Bus: The easiest way to minimize travel cost is local bus. I do not advise foreign travelers to travel by local bus. The reason is that local bus helpers do not understand English. They may not understand, where you will go. So you may get off somewhere else. If you are a budget traveler and the last stoppage of the bus will be your destination, you can try. The bus ride is safe.

Day-1: Old Dhaka
On the first day I decided to travel to old Dhaka Dhaka. If you don’t like crowds, don’t go on Fridays and Saturdays

Rose Garden Palace
Historical Palace

Once upon a time there were many ceremonies in the baldha garden where the rich Hindus of the city used to go. Influenced by the Baldha garden, the Hindu lower caste zamidar Hrishikesh Das decided to create his own garden. Which will be better than Baldha Garden. In the year 1930, Hrishikesh Babu started constructing the garden of roses on 9 acres of land. For this garden, he brought roses with soil from China, India, Japan, European countries. He also built a beautiful house there. He often arranged musical programs in this house. Later, for this lifestyle, he became bankrupt. He was forced to sell this house and garden in 1936 to Qazi Abdur Rashid. The house was renamed “Rashid Manzil”. After Abdur Rashid died in 1944, his elder son Humayun inherited the house.

On June 23, 1949, "Awami League" (The political party of Bangladesh) was established at a meeting in this house. Department of Archeology included the building as protected sites in 1989. But Humayun's son Kazi Abdur Rakib get back the house in 1993 by lawsuit. After his death in 1995, his wife Laila Rakib inherited it.

The house owner wanted to sell the the property. Government has purchased the property in 2018 due to its archeological reason and history.

Now the interior of the house is being renovated. So you cannot enter inside the building. However you can enjoy the beautiful building and small pond from the yard outside the building.

How to go: Turn east from the bus stand and walk about 480 meters through KM Das Lane. At the end of the road, you will see a glimpse of the Rose Garden. But turn left (north) and walk about 60 meters. At the end of the road turn right (east) and walk about 150 meters. At the end of the road, you will see the gate on the right.



Baldha Garden

3.15 acres of land garden was begain creating from 1909 by its landlord, Narendra Narayan Roy Chaudhury until his death in 1943. Once upon a time there were many ceremonies in the baldha garden where the rich Hindus of the city used to go. It is one of the oldest Botanical Gardens in Bangladesh.

Visiting Time: 10 AM to 5 PM.
Entry Fee: 30 Taka ($0.35).
How to go: It is located about 270 meters from Tikatuli Bus Stand towards south. From Bus stand walk 130 meters towards south through Hatkhola road. Then cross the main road and enter straight to Narinda road. Walk 80 meter and turn the first right to Nawab street. The park gate is on your right.



Christian Cemetery
Cemetery

European traders and their families create this as per their need in 1720s.
It is not open for public but you can visit on request.

How to go: Cemetery gate is located about 170 meters from Baldha Garden towards south through Narinda road. East end of Tipu sultan road.



Bahadur Shah Park
Historical Park

Armenians started a club at this place during eighteenth century. At that time, the club was called 'Anta Ghar'. Later, English demolished the club and shifted the club which later became 'Dhaka club'. The previous place made a park. The mutineers of the 1857 Revolt were publicly executed by hanging them to different trees.

In 1858, it is where, commissioner read the announcement of the Queen Victoria's direct rule over India. From Then the park named was "Victoria Park". The park was renamed as 'Bahadur Shah Park' in 1947.

In 1885, a small granite obelisk was built in memory of Khwaja Hafizullah, grandson of Nawab Khwaja Abdul Ghani and son of Nawab Ahsanullah Khan.

How to go: It is located near the Sadarghat bus stop.



Beauty Boarding
Historical Hotel

The building was belonged to a zamidar named Sudheer Das. the building was the office of the daily newspaper Sonar Bangla. By 1951, the newspaper office moved to Kolkata. Then Nolin Mohon Saha bought this 11 Katha plot and start Beauty Boarding. Named after his eldest daughter, Beauty.

Beauty Boarding became popular to book-traders from all over the country. Because they used to come Banglabazar (the book wholesale market).

Many notable person used to come at this place. Famous Bengali poet Nirmalendu Goon lived in Beauty boarding for almost five years.  Painter Debdas Chakrabartee,  poets Syed Shamsul Huq, Shamsur Rahman, Abu Zafar Obaidullah, Rafiq Azad and Al Mahmud used to come in this place. Also came here Netaji subhash Chandra bose, poet Jashim Uddin and the great leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

During the Liberation war of Bangladesh, boarding owner and his family went to Kolkata. After the war they came to Bangladesh and again start the boarding.

Accommodation: There are 27 rooms. There are 17 single rooms. The rent is 200 Taka ($2.36) per room and there are 10 double rooms. The rent is 400 Taka ($4.71) per room
Food: You will get good Bengali food at low prices.
How to go: Come to Sadarghat bus terminal, near Bahadur Shah park. From the southeast corner of the park, a road named "Northbrook Hall road" goes to straight south. Walk about 280 meters through the road towards south till the four point intersection. Where Bangla Bazar road at the right (west) and Hemendra Das road at the left (east). Turn left to Hemandra Das Road. Walk about 30 meter then turn left and walk to a very narrow road. After walking few meters and you will see Beauty Boarding on your right side. It is the shortest path from park.
You can also come through Johnson road from the southwest corner of the park. Then enter to Bangla Bazar road. Bangla Bazar road ends at Northbrook hall road. Cross the road and enter  straight to Hemendra road.



Northbrook Hall
Historical Architecture

In 1874, Viceroy of India Lord Northbrook came to visit Dhaka. To make his visit memorable, the Town Hall was built in 1879. In 1880, the Commissioner of Dhaka inaugurated it. It is also known as Lalkhuthi.

On 8 February 1882, a public library was added on the south-east side of the Hall. It was named the Northbrook Public Library. Many books were ruined during the 1971 Liberation War.
A clubhouse was added to the south-side and called Johnson Hall. Rabindranath Tagore was honored here on 7 February, 1926 by municipality. Northbrook Hall was used as a telegram office in 1950. Later it was used as the Central Women's College.

How to go: It is located at Farashgonj road, on the north bank of the Buriganga River.



Ruplal house
Historic Palace

The house was built in 1825 by an Armenian businessman Stephen Aratoon. It was later bought by Ruplal Das and his brother Raghunath Das, in 1840. Ruplal Das was a great music lover. He hosted a lot of cultural show here. Ostad Alauddin Khan, Ostad Wall Ullah Khan and Lakshmi Devi regularly used to attend in the shows. In 1888 when Lord Dafrin was invited to visit Dhaka, a competition was held between Ahsan Manzil and Rooplal House. Which is the most beautiful? Rooplal House won by the vote.

The Das family left Dhaka after the partition in 1947 to Kolkata. In 1958, the Jamal family purchased Ruplal House and renamed it 'Jamal House'. Jamal and family left for India in 1976.
Now, Ruplal House is occupied by local spice and vegetable  merchants.

How to go: From the intersection of Northbrook Hall road and Banglabazar road, walk about 130 meters towards south through Northbrook Hall road. Then turn left (east) and walk about 190 meters through BK Das road. You will get the palace on your right.



Ahsan Manzil
Historical Palace

Before 1740, Sheikh Enayet Ullah built a palace and named it "Rangmahal". He kept beautiful girls collected from the country and abroad to enjoy. It is said that, Once upon a time, one of the girls killed Enayet Ullah. And the girl also committed suicide.

Around 1740 century, Sheikh Moti Ullah, the son of Enayet Ullah, sold the property to the French traders. They made a big palace and dug a pond. In the English-French war, French got defeated and English captured all their properties. On 22 June 1757, the French left the place with a fleet of 35 boats from the river port of Buriganga. According to Paris agreement of 1814, the French claimed all their properties. In 1827, the property was again returned to the French. But they had to leave subcontinent for the power of English. So, before leaving, they sold property of Ahsan Manjil to Khwaja Alimullah in 1830.

Ahsan Manjil then became the residence of Khwaja Alimullah. After his death, his son Khwaja Abdul Ghani named it "Ahsan Manzil" after the name of his son Khwaja Ahsanullah. Abdul Gani made a new building. Since then, the old building was called 'Ondor Mohol' and the new building was called 'Rong mohol'. In 1874, Northbrook (Governor General of India) came Ahsan Manjil to lay the foundation of a water works of Abdul Ghani. On 7 April 1888, Ahsan Manzil was severely damaged by tornado. So Khwaja Abdul Ghani and his son Khwaja Ahsanullah reconstructed the palace with a new design. After the death of Khwaja Ahsanullah in 1901, the glory of Ahsan Manzil was ended. In 1904, Lord Curzon, stayed in Ahsan Manzil on 18 and 19 February on a visit at east Bengal.

In 1974, the owners of the palace decided to auction it off. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman rejected the auction proposal of Ahsan Manzil. He ordered the establishment of a museum here on November 2, 1974. It came under the control of Bangladesh National Museum on 20 September 1992, and was converted into a museum.

How to go:
Come to Sadarghat bus terminal near Jagannath University by bus from anywhere. Then get there by a rickshaw, rent 20 Taka ($ 0.24) or you can walk, about 730 meters southwest along Johnson Road.



Day-2:

Armenian Church
Church

The church was built in 1781 in the premises of an Armenian graveyard. A clock tower was built on its western side in 1820s. People could heard tower's bell sound from 4 miles away. The clock stopped in 1880.  Tower destroyed by earthquake in 1897. In 1996, Mother Teresa stayed in the church compound during her visit.

How to go: It is located about 800 meters from Ahsan Manjil. Walk towards west through Islampur road. Cross the main road under Babubazar Bridge. Then turn right (north) and walk about 120 meters. Then turn left (west) and walk through Armanitola road. The church is on your left.



Star Mosque
Mosque

First mosque at this place was a simple Mughal style rectangular mosque was built in the late 18th century by Mirza Ghulam. In 1926, Ali Jan Bepari financed its renovation. In 1987, the prayer hall was extended, to include two more domes.

How to go: It is located about 400 meters from Armenian Church. Walk towards north about 350 meters through Armanitola road. Turn left (west) and walk through Abul Khairat Road. The mosque is on your left.



Popular restaurants near Star Mosque

Kolkata Kachchi Ghar:

Small shop, famous for Kacchi Biryani, Almond Sharbat - glass 50 Taka ($0.59), Labang - glass 40 Taka ($0.47). It is located 430 meters from Star Mosque. From Armanitola road, you turned left to Abul Khairat road for Star mosque. Come back at that place and walk continue through Armanitola road towards north. At the end right side road is Bangshal road and left side road is Abul Hasnat road. Walk through Abul Hasnat road about 200



Hossaini Dalan
Shia Mosque

The Imambara of the Shia Muslim community was built between 1652-1660. It was built during the Subedari of Prince Shah Shuja (1639–1647 and 1652–1660), son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It was repaired in 1807 and 1810. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1823 by Naib Nazim Nusrat Jung. After the earthquake in 1897, Nawab Sir Khwaja Ahsanuallah Bahadur, rebuilt the present flat roof and added a verandah to the southern side.

How to go: It is located about 880 meters towards northwest from Star Mosque.

Famous for its variety of bhorta and bhaji. It is located about 120 meters west of Hossaini Dalan. On Nazimuddin Road.

Dhakeshwari Temple
Hindu Temple

Dhakeshwari Temple is the National and largest Hindu temple in Bangladesh. It is part of the famous Shakti Peethas in Indian Subcontinent. Here the gem from sati's crown had fallen.

The Dhakeshwari temple was built by King Ballal Sen in the 12th century. The temple had a 800-year-old statue. Which was taken to Kumartuli, Kolkata, India.

The temple was repaired several times, so the original architecture has changed to its present condition.

How to go: It is located about 910 meters from Hossaini Dalan towards west.



Lalbagh Fort
Historical Fort

Lalbagh Fort is an incomplete fort. It was started in 1678 by Mughal prince Muhammad Azam, third son of Aurangzeb. The fort remained incomplete when he was called away by Aurangzeb.

Shaista Khan was the new subehdar of Dhaka in that time. In 1684, his daughter Pari Bibi had died here. The tomb of Pari Bibi was built in the fort premises. Shaista Khan left the fort incomplete.

The fort became abandoned for long time. In 1844, the area was acquired and changed its name from Aurangabad to Lalbagh and the fort named Lalbagh Fort.

How to go: It is located about 530 meters from Dhakeshwari temple towards south.

Famous for Morog Polao. It is located near northeast corner of Lalbagh Fort.

Khan Mohammad Mridha Mosque
Mosque

It was built in 1704-1705 by Kazi Khan Mohammad Ebadullah (Chief Kazi of Dhaka).

How to go: It is located about 400 meters from Lalbagh Fort Gate towards west.



Day-3:

Osmani Udyan
Park

It covers about 23.37 acres of land. Osmani Udyan was named after the commander of the great Liberation War in 1971, lieutenant general M A Goni Osmani. Osmani Auditorium is located beside the park. There is Independence memorial monument at the entry of the park. The main army commander of the Emperor Aurangzeb, Mir Jumla's cannon is located at this park. The cannon was used by Mir Jumla in the Assam war. There are two lakes on total of 5.34 acres of land in the park. There are two sandy Island artificially built beside the lake.

How to go: It is located west side of Gulistan Golap Shah Mazar Bus stand. Just opposite (north side) of Nagar Bhaban (City Hall).



Nimtali Deuri
Historical Gate

Nimtali Palace was built in 1765-66 for the accommodation of the Naib Nazim family. He was lived in Dhaka fort (which is now Central Jail). after that the office and household of the Naib Nazim were temporarily accommodated in the Bara Katra. He lived in Nimtali Palace until 1843. A company later auctioned off the houses and the buyers broke the houses. Only Nimtali Deuri or the western gate of the palace complex still stand. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh has carried out in 2010-11 necessary conservation works to restore the building to its original architectural form.

How to go: It is located about 450 meters from the southwest corner of Osmani Udyan towards west. About 230 meters from Chankharpul Bus stop towards east.



Central Shaheed Minar
Monument

The students of Dhaka Medical College, started the construction of a memorial at the afternoon of 23 February 1952 and completed it in the night. Secretary Abul Kalam Shamsuddin inaugurated the Shaheed Minar on 26th February morning at 10 AM. Later on that day, the police and army surrounded the student hostel and broke the first martyr monument. Then a Shaheed Minar was constructed at Dhaka College, which was also broken once at the government's direction. After giving recognition to Bangla as the state language of Pakistan, the Central Shaheed Minar was built in 1957-1963 by the formed committee under the supervision of Dr. Mahmud Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University. It was inaugurated on February 21, 1963, by Hasina Begum, mother of Abul Barkat, one of the martyrs of Language Movement.

Best Time to go: 21st February (International Mother Language Day).
How to go: It is located about 500 meters from Chankharpul bus stand towards northwest through Secretariate road.



Musa Khan Mosque
Mosque

Once upon a time, Bengal was ruled by the twelve landlords, who were popularly known as Baro-Bhuiyan. Isa Khan was one of them. He conducted a series of successful military campaigns. His capital was situated in Sonargaon of Narayanganj District. He died in 1599.

After his death, his son Musa Khan took over the control. He was defeated by Mughal general Islam Khan in 1610. Musa Khan died in 1623 and was buried here.

His grandson, Munwar Khan, was built the mosque besides Musa Khan's grave in 18th century.

How to go: It is located about 300 meters from Changkharpul Bus stand towards north.



Curzon Hall
Historical Architecture

On 19 February 1904, the Governor General of India, George Curzon established the foundation of Curzon Hall. It was built as a library of Dhaka College. The University of Dhaka was established in 1921. Then Curzon Hall was included in the Department of Science of Dhaka University, which is still being used.

India and Pakistan has divided in 1947. Pakistan decided Urdu and English as their only communication languages in 1948. Students of Dhaka University objected instantly on this, and it was in Curzon Hall that they first declared their opposition to the state language policy.

How to go: It is located north side of Musa Khan Mosque.



Shahbaz Mosque
Mosque

This mosque and tomb was built in 1679 by Haji khwaja Shahbaz.

How to go: It is situated in the old high court area and near Teen Netar Mazar at Sohrawardi Uddan, Dhaka.



Sohrawardi Uddan
Historical Park

Mir Jumla II built a Mughal structure namely the 'Dhaka Gate' was built here 1660s.

The Park was previously known as Ramna Race Course ground. It was used as the military club of the British soldiers stationed in Dhaka. Every Sunday horse-race competition was held at this place.

Mausoleum of three great national leaders are located here. They are Sher-i-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq (1873–1962), Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy (1892–1963) and Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894–1964). Ramna Race Course was renamed after Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.

In 1969, a reception was organised at the Ramna Race Course in honour of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his release from jail. He was accorded the title Bangabandhu in the reception.

On 3 January, 1971, Awami League arranged a huge public meeting at Ramna Racecourse ground.

On 7 March 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his speech at this place. Which inspired the each people of the country for independence of Bangladesh. On 30 October 2017, UNESCO added the speech in the Memory of the World Register.

On 16 December 1971, the Pakistan army surrendered at this place.

On 17 March 1972, public meeting jointly addressed by the Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Mujibur Rahman that took place at Suhrawardy Uddyan.

The original Flag of Bangladesh was hoisted here for the second time after Dhaka University and the first time hoisted at such a large public gathering in Bangladesh.

A museum has been opened to the public in this park.

How to go: By bus to go Shahbag. Walk to Sohrawardi Uddan behind the National Shishu Park.



Gurudwara Nanak Shahi
Sikh Religion Architecture

This is the largest Gurudwara in Bangladesh. It is said that, Guru Nanak, the legend of Sikh religion, was stayed here for few days in between 1506–1507. It is built in 1830. It was renovated in 1988–1989 as present style. Verandah had been constructed on all four sides of the original building to provide protection.

How to go: It is located about 130 meters from TSC square towards west.



Day-4: Shahabaag Area

Ramna Park
Park

Ramna Park was officially inaugurated in 1949 with an area of 88.50 acres of land. Now it is on 68.50 acres of land.

The present Ramna Park was designed in 1952. The lake of the park was extended in length. Now it is on 8.76 acres of land of the park.

In 1960, Queen Elizabeth II was accorded a reception at the Ramna Park with display of local fireworks. A raised concrete platform was built for the Queen, close to the lake.

The celebration of Bangla new year Pahela Baishakh programs are held every year from the dawn at the Ramna botomul in the Ramna Park.

Visiting Time: Open everyday from morning to dusk.

How to Go: Go to Shahabag by bus from your location, then walk to Park Gate.



St. Mary’s Cathedral

It was built in 1956.

How to go: It is located east side of Department of Public Health Engineering, which is located east side of Ramna Park.



Shishu Park
Children's Park

Established in 1979 on 15 acres of land.

Entry Fee: 8 Taka ($0.094).
Visiting Time: Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday - 1 PM to 7 PM. Friday - 2 PM to 8 PM. Sunday remains closed.
How to go: It is located north side of Suhrawardi Park at Shahbaag.



National Museum
Museum

It is founded on March 20, 1913, and officially inaugurated on 7 August, 1913. It was given the status of National Museum on 17 November, 1983.

Entry Fee: 20 Taka ($0.24) for adult citizen of Bangladesh and SAARC. 100 Taka ($1.18) for foreign citizen. 10 Taka ($0.12) for child age 3-12.

Visiting Time:
April to September: Saturday to Wednesday - 10.30 AM - 5.30 PM. Friday - 3 PM to 8 PM.
October to March: Saturday to Wednesday - 10.30 AM to 5.30 PM. Friday - 3 PM to 8 PM.
Ramadan: Saturday to Wednesday - 10 AM to 4 PM.
Thursday and Friday remains closed.

How to go: It is located at Shahabaag Bus Stop. West side of Children's Park.



Day-5: Dhanmondi Area

Shimanto Square
Shopping Mall

Former name was Rifle Square. This name is still popular.

Visiting Time: Thursday remains closed.
How to go: From Shahbaag you can go by bus 10 Taka ($0.12) or by Ricksha, fare 50 Taka ($0.59).



Dhanmondi Lake
Lake and Recreation Area

The lake has become a well visited spot. A cultural open stage, Rabindra-Sarobar is located inside the park.

Entry Fee: Free.
Visiting Time: Open everyday from morning to dusk.
How to go: There are many entry point of this Lake. You can enter into the park just from opposite of Shimanto Square.



Mughal Eidgah
Mosque

It was built in 1640 by Mir Abdul Qasim, the Dewan of Shah Shuja.

How to go: It is located at Jigatola in Dhanmondi near Dhanmondi Lake and Anams Rangs Plaza.



Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Memorial Museum
Museum

From 1st October 1961, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started living in this house. This place was the center point of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A group of junior army officers invaded this house with tanks and killed Mujib, his family and personal staff On 15 August 1975. Only his daughters Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, who were visiting West Germany, saved. They were banned from returning to Bangladesh. In 1981, the house was handed over to Sheikh Hasina. Sheikh Hasina handed over the house to the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust to convert is a museum.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theater is a planetarium. It was opened to public on 25th September 2004. It's former name was Bhashani Novo Theater.

Entry Fee: Entry fee free but you must buy any show-ticket or ride-ticket before entry.

Visiting Time:
Winter Season: Saturday to Tuesday and Thursday - 10.30 AM,  12 PM, 2 PM, 3.30 PM, 5 PM. Friday - 10 AM, 11.30 AM, 2.30 PM, 4PM, 5.30PM.
Summer Season: Saturday to Tuesday and Thursday - 10.30 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 3.30 PM, 5 PM, 6.30 PM. Friday - 10 AM, 11.30 AM, 2.30 PM, 4 PM, 5.30 PM, 7 PM.
Wednesday remains closed.

How to go: Come to Firmgate by bus. Novo Theater is located about 750 meters from Firmgate towards north. Or come to Chandrima Udyan. It is about 450 meters from there towards east.



Military Museum

Military Museum was established in 1987 and was permanently transferred to Bijoy Sarani in 1999. It exhibits aircraft  guns, canon transportation, heroes of Liberation War, Portrait of Liberation War, weapons, Bangladesh army badge, dress, caps etc.

Visiting Time:
March-September: Saturday to Tuesday, Thursday - 10 AM to 6 PM. Friday - 3 PM to 6 PM.
October-February: Saturday to Tuesday, Thursday - 10 AM to 5 PM. Friday - 3 PM to 5 PM.
Wednesday remains closed.

Entry Fee: Free.

How to go: It is located west side of Novo Theater. You can easily walk to there.



Air Force Museum

Establishment of the Air Force Museum to exhibit the history and heritage of Bangladesh Air Force.

Visiting Time: Monday to Thursday - 2 PM to 8 PM. Friday, Saturday and any Govt. Holiday - 10 AM to 8 PM. Sunday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 20 Taka ($0.24). Boat - 50 Taka ($0.59), Sky park entry - 20 Taka ($0.24), Plane Ride - 30 Taka ($0.35).
How to Go: From the Chandrima mor to IDB Bhaban by Ricksha. Fare 20 Taka ($0.24). Bus Fare 5 Taka ($0.059). Just opposite of IDB Bhaban.



Chandrima Udyan

Chandrima Udyan is a park on 74 acres of land. There is a grave of Major Ziaur Rahman (Former President of Bangladesh) at the center of this park. That's why it was called this place "Zia Udyan".

Entry Fee: Free.
How to go: It is located at the north side of National Parliament. Near the Military Museum.



National Parliament of Bangladesh
Parliament

It was designed by well-known American architect and professor of Yale University, Louis I Kahn. Construction was started in 1964, but due to the war of Bangladesh independence, finally completed in 1982.

How to go: You cannot go inside, but enjoy the beautiful architecture from outside. It is located south side of Chandrima Udyan.



Day-7: Gulshan Area

How to go: It is located about 750 meters from Gulshan 2 circle towards north through Gulshan North Avenue.



Gulshan Tank Park

Also called Justices Shahabuddin Park.

How to go: It is located about 400 meters from Gulshan-2 Circle. Walk towards north from Gulshan-2. Then turn right and walk towards east through Road-90. Then turn left and walk towards north through Road-83. Cross Road-89 and continue walk towards north. You will see the park on your right.



Hatirjheel
Lake and Recreation Area

"Hati" means Elephant and "Jheel" means Lake. It is said that, Bhawal Raja used to keep his elephants at Pilkhana. Elephants were taken to the wetlands through the Elephant Road and Hatirpool. That's why the place is called Hatirjheel.

It is a east-west long lake with walkway each side of the lake and one-way road besides walkway. There are four overbridge that connects the both sides of the lake. Walkway contains viewing decks and sitting arrangements. There are water taxi transports facility on the lake, round-trip buses on the road.

Other Activities: Water Light show in the evening, Food Court, Shopping Complex (Police Plaza) and small park around the lake.
How to go: There are three main entry point of this lake. 1. Rampura Bridge, 2. Gulshan-1 Shooting Complex and 3. FDC Mor.

Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery

Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery Complex' was built in 1960. In 1962 King Bhumibol of Thailand visited the temple. In 1984 Thailand donated a 10 feet tall statue of Buddha and then Japan donated another statue.

How to go: Atish Dipankar Sarak, Basabo, Sabujbag, Dhaka.

Largest Shopping Mall in Bangladesh with amusement park and office building. Total complex built on 33 acres of land.

How to go: Go to Bashundhra Residential Area by bus.

Day-9: Agargaon and Mohammadpur

National Science and Technology Museum

National Science and Technology Museum was established on 26 April 1965. There are a total of 7 galleries. Depending on the sky being cloudy, every Saturday and Sunday evening, the authorities organize the observation of sky with the help of the telescope.

Visiting Time: Saturday to Wednesday 9 AM to 5 PM. Thursday and Friday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 5 Taka ($0.059).
Restriction: Photo Session is completely prohibited inside gallery.
How to go: It is located at Sher-e Bangla Nagar, Agargaon.



7 Dome Mosque
Architectural Mosque

It is believed that in 1680, Nawab Shaista Khan built the mosque. According to another information, the founder of the mosque of Nawab Shaista Khan's eldest son Buzurg Uddin Khan.

How to go: This is located at Mohammadpur, Dhaka.



Rayer Bazar Boddhobhumi
Martyred Intellectuals Memorial

At the end of the War of Liberation of Bangladesh with Pakistan, Realizing the defeat, the Pakistani ruling class made a nasty plan to break the backbone of Bangali nation. For this reason, they had killed the intellectuals of the country from the beginning of the liberation war. But, between 10 and 14 December, this brutality and murder made terrible appearance. University teachers of this country, journalists, playwright, artists etc. take away the intellectuals from their home and murdered. Shortly after the victory of Bangladesh, their wounded dead body were found in the site of the monument of Rayer Bazar. To keep their memories memorable, the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 14 December 1999.

Best Time: On 14th December is Martyred Intellectuals Day. Most of all go there at that time. You can visit anyday anytime.
How go to: Easiest way to go by CNG. For the cheapest way you can go by bus too.



Day-10: Mirpur
