Paturia Ghaat

Ferry Port

Aricha Ghat is an important river port in Bangladesh. It is situated in Manikganj District. The port is managed by Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority. Daulatdia-Paturia route ferries ply from this port.
How To Go: You can't go there directly, if you don't have own car. From Gulistan, Dhaka there are lots of buses such as Shuvojatra direct goes to Manikgonj. From there by local bus you can go to Paturia Ghaat. You can stay bank of the river or you can cross the river by ferry. Its half an hour nice journey.
You can enjoy the nice view this up and down 1 hour time.

Important Information of Manikgonj

Manikganj was established as a Mahakuma in May 1845 under the Faridpur District. In 1856, it was transferred to Dhaka District, and on 1 March 1984, Manikganj was officially upgraded to a district.
The origin of the name "Manikganj" remains uncertain. Before the creation of the Mahakuma in 1845, no official records mention a place called Manikganj, suggesting that no village or mouza with this name previously existed. Three popular theories attempt to explain the origin of the name.
One widely accepted belief is that during the early eighteenth century, a Sufi saint named Manik Shah arrived in present-day Maniknagar village of Singair Upazila. He established a spiritual centre (Darbar) there and began preaching Islam. Many historians believe that the district was later named after him. Another popular opinion suggests that the name originated from a fearless Pathan leader known as Manik Dhali.
A third theory claims that after the Battle of Plassey, the British named the newly established subdivision "Manikganj" in May 1845 in honour of Manik Chand, who is remembered in history as a betrayer of Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah. However, all three explanations remain speculative, as no reliable historical documents or direct evidence have yet been found to confirm any of them. Among these theories, many researchers and local historians consider the Manik Shah explanation to be the most convincing.
Another historical source mentions Maharaja Manik Ram Basu, who is believed to have founded the Manikganj Kingdom sometime between 1770 and 1785. His family later became well known as Kolkata's famous Hatkhola Royal Family. During his reign, the kingdom reportedly covered large parts of present-day Manikganj, Dhaka, Barishal, and Jashore. He was recognised as an able administrator and a powerful zamindar.
After Maharaja Manik Ram Basu's death, his son Ram Hari Basu managed the estate from approximately 1785 to 1789. Some historians believe that the name "Manikganj" may also have originated from Maharaja Manik Ram Basu. However, like the other theories, no reliable historical evidence has yet been found to support this claim.
