Jhalakathi is bounded by Barishal district to the north and east, Barguna district and the Bishkhali river in the south, Pirojpur district to the west.
Jhalakathi district is divided into 4 upazila or sub-districts (Jhalakathi Sadar, Kathalia, Nalchity, Rajapur).
