How to Reach New Taipei City

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (IATA Code-TPE) is an international airport in Taoyuan City. West side of Linkou district in New Taipei City..
I always use the following app to buy air tickets. Because this app shows the cheapest tickets on all airlines. I can buy tickets as per my requirement. Enter the country you are going to. Then enter your departure and arrival date. Click on search.




From Airport, you have to decide which district you want to visit first. Linkou is the nearest district from airport. Taoyuan Metro operates a train from Airport Terminal 1 Station to Linkou every 20 minutes and fare NTD 30-90 ($1-3) and it takes about 15 minutes.

Bali left Bank Park

It is a river side walkway and must visit place in Taiwan both in day and evening time. There is a 13 Line Museum, Mi Fei Park. There is a pavilion where three loves that are stringed together. There is a Mirror love area. You will see heart-shaped mirror. Walk to Xiongding Pavilion. Beautiful lightings at the evening. There are many street restaurants along the road. You can rent bycycle. On weekdays, it may get 2 cycles at only 50 NTD ($1.67) for whole day.
How to go: It is located at the ferry Pier on the left bank of Tamsui River. From here ferry leaves for Tamsui District on the other side of the river. Oneway cost only 23 NTD ($0.77).


Bali Old Street

Day-3: Tamsui

Cross the ferry from Bali Left Side Park ferry pier. Fare one way about 23 NTD ($0.77) per person.

Tamsui art and cultural park

It was a tea related products storehouse during British during British period. Later, Shell Oil Company bought it and used as their warehouse and made oil tanks in the premises. After the U.S. bombing in 1944, the warehouse burned for three days.
After many years later, the warehouse was repaired and using as Tamsui Cultural Park. There are craft shops and for displaying art. There’s a small museum and a nice little bar-restaurant inside the premises.
Visiting Time: 9 AM to 6 PM. Monday remains closed.
How to go: It is located just behind Tamsui MRT on the riverside.

Fort San Domingo

It was a wooden fort built in 1628 by the Spanish Empire, named was "Fort San Domingo".  Spanish destroyed the fort after 1642. The Dutch rebuilt the fort in 1644. It was renamed "Fort Antonio". The fort was returned to the Taiwan government in 1980. Since then, the fort has been openen to tourists.
Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday - 9.30 AM to 6 PM. After 6 PM to 10 PM only outdoor Garden and Coffee Garden.
Entry Fee: 80 TWD ($2.68) for adult. Fee includes Hobe’s Fort and Custom’s Residence House.
How to go: It is about 7.3 km from Guandu Temple towards north. Located at Lane 28, Zhongzhen Road, Tamsui District.


Tamsui Customs Wharf

Qing Dynasty established the customhouse in 1861. It starts operating on 18 July 1862 as Huwei Port. It was closed and handed over to Japan On 5 August 1895.

Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf

How to Go: From Taipei Main Station, take on the Red MRT Line to Tamsui Station. This will take around 45-50 minutes and fare 50 NTD ($1.67). From there walk to Tamsui Wharf, then take the ferry to Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf.

How to go: The Ju Ming Museum offers a shuttle bus from the Jinshan District Office, leaving Tuesday to Friday at 10:30 AM and 2 PM, and weekends - 10:30 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2 PM.

How to go: It is located at south side of Ju Ming Museum.


Jump-stone Coast

Also called Tiaoshi Coast.
How to go: North east side of of Jinshan, Taipei, before Danjin Highway. Visitor jump from one big rock to another. That’s why the place is called “Tiaoshi” (Stone Jumping).



Day-7: Jinshan

Lion's Head Mountain Trail

There are 4 main hiking routes on Lion’s Head Mountain, start from the Shitoushan Visitor’s Center is located at the southwest end of the hill. Go through Gongyuan Road from town to Park visitor center.

Shishan Historic Trail:
Also called Shitoushan Park Trail is popular among them.
Walk towards north along the trail, on the way you can see Wanfo (10,000 Buddha) Temple, few Qixing Pavilions where another trail called Liuliao connects from the left. Go straight, you will see Jingang Temple, Lingxia Cave Temple, Juewang Cave Temple, Jueran Temple, Haihui Temple, Yuanguang Temple, Wargyue Pavilion.
After Yuanguang Temple, road goes to straight or left. Go straight to reach Guanri (Sunrise) Pavilion and two more cave temples, Linyun and Sheli.
Left road to go directly to Quanhua Temple via Daode Gate. Quanhua Temple road is connected to Futian Temple.
You can stay stay at Quanhua Temple hotel. No monks at the temple. Bus 5701 goes through its near road. The kitchen at Quanhua Temple, located right beside the main shrine at Futian Temple also serves simple Buddhist vegetarian meals by donation at 6:30 AM, noon and 5:30 PM. If you want to stay take your necessary food. Double room may cost 1000 NTD ($) per night.


Liuliao Trail: Walk just left walkway of Shishan Trail from Visitor Center. You eill see Qinzi Pavilion  where another trail called 'Tengping Trail' connects from the left. Go straight. You will see Firefly Watching zone, then Eddy Holes where another trail called 'Chating Trail' connects from the left (If you enter few meters towards left, you will see Earth God Temple and come back to the previous point). Go straight to Qixing sactret tree, Private resthouse. Then the trail U turns to left and meets at Shishan Trail.

Tengping Trail: It is a small trail. Walk just left walkway of Liuliao Trail from Visitor Center. You will see Tung Flower. Tengping wooden path, observation desk, Recreation Platform. The trail turns U towards left and see Tengping Rock Face and finally the trail meets with Liuliao Trail.

Shuilian Cave Trail: Crossing the Shulian bridge you can visit Shulian temple in this trail.


* The trails are very simple, you can do that all in a day.


Day-8: Jinshan

Walk at the east side sea road from the north to south. You can see

Jinshan Seaside Park: With 2 candlestick rocks
Jinshan Shuiwei Port: It is also called Mysterious Coast because it was a restricted area and used only for military use. Few yaars ago it was opened to public. In 2016, one of the scenes in the movie “Silence” was shoot here and the place become popular.
Shuiwei Fishing Harbor: The entrance of Jinshan Shuiwei Port.
Yuantan River Bridge: About 200 meters from Shuiwei Fishing Harbor towards south. After crossing the bridge, you will reach Xialiao Beach.


Jinbaoli Cihu Temple

How to go: About 1 km from Yuantan River Bridge towards south in town. The roads connect with Gongyuan Road.

Day-9: Wanli

Go to Yehliu, a place in Wanli district of Taipei city.

Day-11: Ruifang

Houtong Cat Village

Houtong Cat Village is a must see place for cat lovers. Where you can see many cats here and there. Avoid rainy day to visit.
Once upon a time, it was a coal mining area. The village is divided into two parts by Keelung River. You can see coal processing machinery, restaurants, visitor information center and riverside walkway, cat souvenirs.
How to go: From Taipei Main Station, take train to Ruifang Station. From there you can continue by another locatl train to Houtong Station. Or from Ruifang train station, cross the street and take Bus 808 or F808 to Houtong town.
Inside the Premises:
Monkey Cave: No monkey is there. There is a toy train ride inside the cave. Entry Fee to the cave is NTD 150 ($5.01) for adult and NTD 100 ($3.34) for child.


* You can visit Shifen Waterfall today or you can omit this day and visit Houtong Cat Village during Shifen tour.


Day-12: Ruifang

New Taipei City Gold Museum

Previously known as the Gold Ecological Park.
Inside the Premises:
Information Center: Inside the former inter-town bus station.
Shiyu High School: From Information Center, a red-brick path take you besides the school building for the Japanese children, established in 1907. Then Taiwanese students attended nearby Guashan Elementary School.
Gold Refining Building: Originally used as a guesthouse for Japanese. Later it used as a gold-refining building. Now exhibit photos of Jinguashi’s rise and fall.
Four Joined Japanese-Style Residences: Japanese wooden structures.
Crown Prince Chalet: Crown Prince Hirohito stayed during his visit in Jinguashi. There is also a Japanese-style garden.
Gold Building: Located on uphill. There is a souvenir shop in the 3rd floor of the building. Entry fee of the building is NTD 80 ($2.66).
Benshan No-5 Tunnel: Providing the visitor a taste of the miner’s environment. Two types entry fee. NTD 50 ($1.66) for network of tunnels and NTD 100 ($3.32).
Jinguashi Shrine: Go further up on the hill towards south, you can see this worship built in 1897. It moved to another place but few architectures are still remaining there.
Teapot Mountain trail: You can take this trail from inside the gold museum through the stairway.
How to go: Tourist Shuttle bus 856 runs Gold Fulong Route from Jiufen to Fulong via this place.

Chuen Ji Hall

It is located outside the Gold Museum, on the way of POW Memorial Park.
How to go: It is located at 53, Qitang Road in Ruifang District.

Nanya Rock

How to go: About 3.15 km from Yin Yang Sea towards east through seaside road. On the way you can enojoy Nanzilin Trail near Nanya Rock.

Bitou Cape

Bitou Locally knwon as Bitoujiao. You can start from the trail from Bitou Fishing Harbor which is in north side. Or from Bitou Elementary School, which is located at south side. Or you can start from one side and end at another side. There is a Bitoujiao Lighthouse can be seen at the end of the trail. If you want to enjoy sunset and sunrise from here, you can stay at  Bitao.
How to go: About 2.5 km from Nanya Rock towards east through seaside road. From the bus stop just outside Ruifang train station, take bus-856. The bus will pass through YinYang Sea and Nanya Rock Formation.


Day-13: Gongliao

Day-14: Pingxi

First, you’ll want to to take the MRT to Taipei Main Station. From there, you can board any northbound train except a Keelung-bound train to Ruifang (the express trains are called Tzechiang). A ticket cost 78 Taiwanese dollars. then the bus 795 towards Shifen.

How to go: You can rent an electric bike from Shifen to Parking lot. For an hour cost may take 200 NTD ($6.66). It is 30 minutes walking distance to the parking lot. So it will be better to save money. From Parking lot you have to walk through the beautiful walkway with passing two suspension bridges.

* Our next destination in New Taipei is Zhonghe district, which is located West side of Taipei City. Pinxi district is located at southeast side of Taipei City. So before move from east to west, you can visit Taipei City, the capital of Taiwan.

Day-17: Luzhou, Sanchong, Xinzhuang

Luzhou Lee Family Historic Estate

100 years old resident of Lee Yo-Bang, a general.
Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday - 9 AM to 5 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee: NTD 80 ($2.68).
How to go: From Taipei, take the red line to Minquan West Road Station, then transfer for the orange line to Sanmin Senior High School Station. It may take 25 minutes and fare about NTD 45 ($1.5). It is located at 19, Lane 243, Zhongzheng Road, Luzhou District.

Baohe Temple

The Baohe Temple was built in 1910.
How to go: About 550 meters from Luzhou Lee Family Historic Estate towards southeast.

Yonglian Temple

Originally built in 1872.
How to go: About 80 meters from Baohe Temple towards south.

How to go: It is located about 250 meters from the South side of Crescent Bridge at 435, Zhongzheng Road, Banqiao District.

Lin Family Mansion and Garden

Historic Area

In 1851, the Lin Ben Yuan family clan moved to Banqiao and constructed the Three-Courtyard Mansion for their residence. In 1977, they donated a portion of the garden to the government. In 1982 it opened to visitors.
Visiting Time: Saturday to Thursday - 9 AM to 5 PM. Friday - 9 AM to 7 PM. 1st Monday of every month remains closed.
Entry Fee: Free.
How to go: It is located southwest corner of Banqiao 2nd Stadium.
Inside the Premises:
Jigu Study: It is used to collect books and to study.
Fang Jian Study: Fang Jian Study was a place for study.
Lai Ching Hall: The Lai Ching Hall was used for guests.
Rainbow Moon Arched Bridge: An arch-shaped bridge.
Shiang Yu Yi: A small house next to the pavilion.
Yue Po Shui Hsueh: A place to appreciate the moon. There is a “water pavilion”.
Ding Jing Hall: A largest building, where the Lin Family celebrated, and held parties or relative activities.
Daguan Academy: it was built in 1873. It was used as a school and also a temple.
Guan Jia Hall: Guan Jia Hall is the second largest building.
Banyan Shade Pond: A pond.
Three house Courtyard: It was built in 1851 for living purpose.

How to go: It is located about 50 meters from southwest corner of Lin Family Mansion and Garden towards south at 69, Ximen Street, Banqiao District.

Cihui Mazu Temple

How to go: It is located about 330 meters from Jieyun Temple towards east at 81, Fuzhong Road, Banqiao District.

Foot Over Bridge

How to go: It is located 200 meters from Cihui Mazu Temple towards east near Fuzhong MRT station at 193, Section 1, Xianmin Boulevard, Banqiao District.


Butterfly Park

Also called Jiangcuilijian Riverside Park. Banqiao Butterfly park shows uses 500,000 LED bulbs to create a sound and light show.
Visiting Time: 9 AM to 10 PM. Light show starts at 5:30 PM.
How to go: About 3.15 km from Fuzhong MRT station towards east. It is located between Guangfu Bridge and Huacui Bridge at 18, Section 4, Huanhe West Road, Banqiao District.


* You can also visit Panchiao Wanping Park (Near MRT Station), Civic Square (Near Government Office) and Nanya Night Market.


Day-19: Sanxia

Its actual name is Minquan Street. At a center portion of the Minquan Street, which is called old street beacuse of old buildings built during Japanese rule. Zushi Temple are also located here.


* There is Kite Bell up on the mountain. If you wish you can take the trail. Also a Sanxia History Museum is located near old street.


Zushi Temple

Also called Sanxia Temple was built during the Qing Dynasty in 1767.
How to go: It is located at the northeast side of Old Street at 1, Zhangfu Street.

Zhangfu Bridge

How to go: southeast side of Zushi Temple.

Xing Xiu Gong

Temple

Xing-Xiu Temple was built in 1965. Beautiful architectural temple.
How to go: About 6 km from Zhangfu Bridge towards south through Zhongzheng Road then Zhengyi Street then turn left to Baiji Road. Near the intersaction road of Baiji Road and Ziwei road.

Fo Guang Shan Jin Guang Ming Temple

How to go: About 6 km from 1.5 km from Xing Xiu Gong temple through Ziwei road towards east then turn left to Xidong Road at 268, Xidong Road.

Xing Xiu Gong Temple

Every year on Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival held at this place. It is composed of thousands of lanterns.
How to go: About 2.8 km from Fo Guang Shan Jin Guang Ming Temple towards northwest. It is located at 187-1, Lane 98, Sanshu Road.


Day-20: Yingge

New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum

Photography and video recording are allowed except flash and using tripod or selfie sticks.
Visiting Time: Monday to Friday - 9.30 AM to 5 PM. Saturday and Sunday - 9.30 PM to 6 PM. First Monday of every month remains closed.
Entry Fee: NT$ 80 ($2.68) for foreigner. Free for locals.
How to go: Besides Yingge Ceramics Park near Sanying Bridge.

Park huge size of few ceremic items on the field.

Sanying Longyao Bridge

Lighting during evening is beautiful and also in day time.
How to go: About 420 meters walking distance from Yingge Ceramics Museum towards east through Huanhe Road.

Sanying Neverland

32-hactre Sanying Neverland is organized with "Bicycle Trails", "Large Pottery Public Art Work", "Sanying Art Village" and "Water Stage".
How to go: From Yingge Ceramics Museum cross Sanying Longyao Bridge.

Yingge Ancient Bell Tower

Mainly for children.

How to go: North west side of Sanying Neverland.

How to go: It is located near the Yingge old street.

Yingge Old Street is pedestrian street, lined with more than 80 shops selling ceramic items.


Day-21: Shulin, Yingge

Haiming Temple

How to go: It is located at 22, Haiming Street, Shulin District. Uphill of Qianxia Mountain.


* There is another temple little up on the hill from Haiming Temple.


Sun Bin Temple

Sun Bin Temple is a beautiful temple.
How to go: It is 550 meters from the northeast corner from Sanying Neverland towards north.


* There are several trails from Sun Bin temple. If you wish you can hike.


Turtle Temple

Temple

Also caled "Green Turtle Temple" or "Bilong Temple". There is a turtle shaped stone at this premises. It is said that the stone has a magical power and the wishes of those who come to worship are fulfilled.
How to go: Hike from Sun Bin Temple towards uphill. There are available map at that place. About 6 km from Haiming Temple, Shunlin towards west.

How to go: It is about 2.2 km from Sun Bin Temple toards north.
