Yilan is a county in northeastern Taiwan. Situated at the southeast side of New Taipei City.

How to Reach Yilan

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (IATA Code-TPE) is an international airport in Taoyuan City.
I always use the following app to buy air tickets. Because this app shows the cheapest tickets on all airlines. I can buy tickets as per my requirement. Enter the country you are going to. Then enter your departure and arrival date. Click on search.



From Taoyuan airport to Yilan, You have to go via Taipei City.
From Airport to Taipei:
MRT from the airport terminal to Taipei Main Station takes about 35 minutes. Ticket price is NTD 160 ($5.35). The MRT departs from 6.05 AM to 11.35 PM.
The shuttle bus is the cheapest option. Bus no 1960, heading towards the Xinyi District. Ticket cost NTD 145 ($4.85) and the bus runs from 6.05 AM to 1.05 AM. Bus no. 1819 runs 24 hours and ticket cost NTD 125 ($4.18). Bus no. 1961 runs until 1 AM and ticket cost NTD 90 ($3.01).
From Taipei to Yilan:
From Taipei Main Station to Yilan City or Luodong Train Station takes around 65 to 80 minutes. Train fare NTD 218 ($7.29) to NTD 238 ($7.96) one way through Hsueshan “Snow Mountain” Tunnel.
From Taipei Main Station, Kamalan Bus stops at most of the key spots in Yilan. It travels as far as Luodong Train Station in Yilan County. Fare NTD 243 ($8.13).

How to go: From Jiaoxi Bus Station, take Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus, Jiaoxi Route A, bus-111 to the Wufengqi Waterfall area bus stop and Parking lot. Park you car here. It takes 50 NTD ($1.67) for the whole day.
From Parking lot walk through the road where you see buildings on your right. After end of this road there is a dam on your left. After that you have to pass through a marketplace. End of the market place there are two roads. Left road leads to the Shengmu Peak Trail and right stairway leads to Wufengqi waterfalls first.

How to go: From Jiaoxi Bus Station, take Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus, Jiaoxi Route A, bus-111 to the Wufengqi Waterfall area bus stop and Parking lot. Park you car here. It takes 50 NTD ($1.67) for the whole day.
From Parking lot walk through the road where you see buildings on your right. After end of this road there is a dam on your left. After that you have to pass through a marketplace. End of the market place there are two roads. Left road leads to the Shengmu Peak Trail and right stairway leads to Wufengqi waterfalls first. There is another path that connects from the 2nd waterfall, goes uphill to the Catholic church. Behind the church, a path goes uphill about 3.7 km, you will reach Tongtian Bridge. A pavilion is located right of the bridge, then continue on the steeper trail to Shengmu Peak where the statue of Christ on the Cross is located.

How to go: It is located at 99-11, Deyang Road, Jiaoxi Township, Yilan County.


* You can also take Houdongkeng Waterfall trail.

Day-2: Toucheng

Small island also called "Turtle Island" for its shape.
Visiting Time: March to November. December to February remains closed.
How to go: Guishan Island is only accecible by taking a package from Wushih Harbor in Toucheng Township.

Visiting Time: Thursday to Tuesday - 9 AM to 5 PM. Wednesday remains closed.
Entry Fee: NTD 100 ($3.34) for adult. NTD 50 ($1.67) for child age 6-12, student.
How to go: It is located near Wushih Harbor at 750, Section 3, Qingyun Road in Toucheng Township of Yilan County.

Longtan Lake

Originally known as "Dapi" and also known as “Dapo Lake”. There are few temples around the lake, such as Longtan Temple, Huangti Temple.

Luodong Forestry Culture Park

There is Wood Sculpture Square. Log Pond, surrounded by a boardwalk. Forestry Exhibition Hall, Old Zhulin Railway Station, Exhibition about logging in the Taipingshan area, Lanyang Trails Exhibition Hall. There are also snack bars, restaurants, and an ice-cream shop near Trestle Bridge.
How to go: It is located about 1.5 km from Rabbit Pencil School towards south at 118, Zhongzheng North Road in Luodong Township.

Dongshan River Water Park

Visiting Time: Low Season - 9 AM to 6 PM every day. High Season - 9 AM to 8 PM every day.
Entry Fee: NTD 150 ($5.02) for adult. NTD 120 ($4.01) for child age 6-12 and student. NTD 75 ($2.51) for senior. Free for child age below 6 or height below 115 cm.
How to go: Walk 2 km Dongshan River Water Park from Lizejian Bridge towards north along the river, cross another bridge. About 5.75 km from Luodoung township towards east at 201, Section-2, Wubin Road in Wujie Township of Yilan County.


Day-7:

Renshan Botanical Garden

How to go: From Loudong, bus no. 281 to Botanical Garden.

How to go: The provides a shuttle-bus service to and from Luodong Railway Station. Buses leave from Luodong at 10.20 AM and 2.20 PM. Buses leave from farm at 9.50 AM and 1:40 OM. One way fare is NTD 100 ($3.34) per person. Book ticket few days in advance during full season. It is located at 168, Meishan Road, Dajin Village in Dongshan Township of Yilan County.
