Chamba is a district in Himachal Pradesh State in India. It is located at a distance of around 600 km from Delhi. Situated at an altitude of 996 meters above sea level.

Chamba is bounded by Jammu and Kashmir on northwest, Ladakh to the north, Lahaul and Spiti District of Himachal Pradesh to the northeast and east, Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh to the southeast and south, and Gurdaspur District of the Punjab State on the south-west.



How to reach Chamba

There are many ways you can reach at Chamba.

By Air: From Delhi to Gaggal Airport in Kangra District. Then from Kangra you have to go Chamba by bus or taxi.

By Train: You have to go to Pathankot from Delhi by train. There are many trains available such as Jammu Mail. The train leaves from Delhi at 8.20 PM and reaches Pathankot by 6.50 AM. Fare about 300 Rs. There are frequent bus services from Pathankot to Dalhousie, which cost 70 Rs.

By Bus: Daily bus from Delhi to Chamba via Dalhousie fare 678 Rs. First Bus starts at 5.50 PM and it takes 16 hours 37 minutes.
From Kangra, there are buses between Mcleodganj, Kangra to Dalhousie, Chamba. Fare 150-160 Rs. The journey takes about 4.5 hours.

Day-1: Dalhousie

Chamera Lake

This is a man-made lake about 25 km away from Dalhousie, formed by the confluence of 2 rivers, where you can enjoy boat ride with nice hills view. Speed boat fare 400 Rs for 7 minutes per person and engine boat fare 250 Rs for 30 minutes and 350 for 50 minutes per person.
How to go: There are direct no buses to Chamera Lake from Dalhousie, but local transport such as jeeps and vans are available.

Day-2: Panchpula
Panchpula is only 3 km away from Dalhousie. You can easily go there by foot.

Day-3: Khajjiar

How to go: There are frequent bus service from Dalhousie to Chamba via Khajjiar.

This is a forest 8 km towards Khajjiar road from Dalhousie. There is a rest house inside it. Entry free. If you take car with you, then it will take 250 Rs at the entry gate. If you have booking in rest house then car entry is free.


Day-4: Chamba Town
Early in the morning go to Chamba town from Dalhousie or Khajjiar. Buses starts from Dalhousie at 9 AM and every 2 hours.

Rang Mahal

Visiting Time: 10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM.

Laxmi Narayan Temple

Hindu Temple

There are six temples in the complex. These temples was built in the 10th Century. As the history, King Sahil Verma constructed the temples. It is said that Sahil Verma sent his nine sons to bring the rare marble from Vindhyachal Mountains to make idol of Lord Vishnu and sacrificed his eight sons and finally the eldest son able to bring the marble.

Bhuri Singh Museum

This Museum was built in 1975. It is focusing on the history and culture of Chamba.
Visiting Time: Everyday (except Monday) from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Entry Fee: 20 Rs for Indian and 100 Rs for foreigner and  10 Rs for student (age 6-11). Camera fee 50 Rs for Indian and 100 Rs for foreigner.


Now stay at night and back to your home on the next day. Or you can visit the next district of Himachal Pradesh is Lahaul & Spiti. Another beautiful place. There are buses between Chamba to Keylong.
