How to Reach Jammu

From Delhi there are buses and trains go to Jammu. Buses fare 600 Rupee and Sleeper train fare 400 Rupee. From Kolkata there are two trains.  Jammu Tawi Exp, No: 13151. Leaves every day from Howrah station at 11.45 AM and takes 45 hours to reach. Arrives Jammu on 3rd day at 8.45 AM. Fare Sleeper class - 800 Rupee, 3AC - 2000 Rupee and 2AC - 3000 Rupee.
Another Train “Himgiri Express No: 12331” Leaves 3 days in a week (Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) at 11.35 PM and takes 37 hours to reach. Arrives Jammu on 3rd day 12.35 PM. Fare Sleeper - 800 Rupee 3A - 2100 Rupee 2A - 3200 Rupee and 1A 5500 Rupee.

Bahu Fort

As a historical record, Raja Bahulochan was the eldest son among the 18 sons of ruler Agnigarbha II, was established the Jammu city and built the fort around 1000 BC on the banks on Tawi River. The present fort was rebuilt by Autar Dev, the grandson of King Kapoor Dev in 1585. Maharaja Gulab Singh reconstructed in the 19th century, which was further refurbished by Maharaja Ranbir Singh.
Mahakali Temple inside the fort was built shortly after the coronation of Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1822.
How to go: It is located northeast end of Bagh-E-Bahu.


Maha Maya Temple

Maha Maya was the local female freedom fighter, belonging to the Dogra community, who gave up her life for her motherland.
Visiting Time: 6 AM to 8 PM.
How to go: It is located on a hilltop. You can go by your own vehicle.


Ropeway Jammu

Peer Kho

Hindu Temple

The cave temple was built in the 15th Century on the bank of Tawi river. These caves are built underground.
Visiting Time: 5 AM to 7 PM. 12 PM is closed for visitor. Cameras and phone are not allowed in the premises of the temple.
How to go: You can reach there by rope way from Mahamaya temple.


Mubarak Mandi Palace

It is said that, the Mubarak Mandi Palace was established by Raja Dhruv Dev (1707- 1733). The palace complex took its present form around 1874 by Maharaja Ranbir Singh. The complex consists of the Pink Palace, Royal Courts buildings, Gol Ghar Complex, Nawa Mahal, Rani Charak Palace, Hawa Mahal, the Toshakhana palace and the Sheesh Mahal.
Nowadays sections of the palace house government offices, courts and the Dogra Art Museum.
Dogra art museum: It is situated within the ‘Pink Hall’. It exhibits miniature paintings of various styles.
Gol Ghar: It is located in the southern part of the complex. It has four storeys and overlooks the Tawi river. Due to earthquake, roofs and floors collapsed, leaving the building as a ruin.
Sheesh Mahal: It is made entirely of glass.
Visiting Time: Winter - 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Summer - 8 AM to 1:30 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 20 Rupee ($0.26).
How to go: It is located about 800 meters from Peer Kho towards north at Panjtirthi, Jammu.


Amar Mahal Palace

It was built in the 1890s. Maharani Tara Devi, wife of the late Maharaja Hari Singh (son of Raja Amar Singh) lived in this palace till her death in 1967. Her son Karan Singh and his wife Yasho Rajya Lakshmi converted the palace into a museum. The museum was inaugurated by the Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, on 13 April 1975.
Visiting Time: April to September - 9 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM. October to March - 9 AM to 1 PM. 2 PM to 5 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 120 Rupee ($1.58) for combined. 20 Rupee ($0.26) for Museum and 100 Rupee ($1.32) for 2nd floor. Extra charge for camera.
How to go: It is located about 1.3 km from Mubarak Mandi Palace towards north at Palace Road, Karan Nagar, Jammu Tawi, Jammu Cantonment.


Hari Niwas Palace

The palace was built by the Hari Singh before in 1925. He moved here in 1925 from the Mubarak Mandi Palace and spent here the days before moving to Mumbai. The palace was converted into a heritage hotel in 1990.
How to go: south side of Amar Mahal Palace Museum.


Manda Zoo Park

Visiting Time: Wednesday to Saturday and Monday - 8:20 AM to 6 PM. Sunday - 8:30 AM to 3 PM. Tuesday remains closed.

Day-3:
Go to Akhnoor from Jammu. It is about 33 Km from Railway Station Jammu Tawi. Akhnoor is the Municipal Committee in Jammu district.

Akhnoor Fort

Akhnoor Fort construction was started by Raja Tegh Singh in 1762 and completed by his son Raja Alam Singh in 1802. On 17th of June 1822 Maharaja Ranjeet Singh crowned Maharaja Gulab Singh at the fort's Jia Pota ghat on Chenab's riverbank.
Visiting Time: 10 AM to 6 PM.
How to go: It is on the right bank of Chenab River. About 33 Km from Railway Station Jammu Tawi.


Kameshwar Mandir

It is believed to be about 5500 years old and belong to the Pandavas era.
How to go: It is located about 1 km from Akhnoor Fort towards north.


Aap Shambhu Mandir

Here Lord Shiva is believed to be present in a natural Shiva Linga form.
There is a story about this place according to the old legend. During the reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh, this place was a dense jungle.
A local man noticed that, there was no milk in his buffalo which along with other animals went for grazing in the nearby jungle. He became suspicious and followed the buffalo. He noticed that while grazing other buffaloes and cows, his buffalo was standing still near a stone and started releasing milk on it (pindi). He tried to break the stone with an axe. But the bleeding from the stone began. The man became frightened and later realized he was blind. Later his house burned down and his whole family died.
When Maharaja Pratap Singh (18 July 1848 – 23 September 1925) heard this story, he came to visit the place and was very happy to see Lord Shiva in the form of 'Pindi'. He wanted to transfer Swayambhu Linga to a big temple so he ordered excavation of 'Linga' from that place. The ‘pindi’ was dug around but it was filled the next day. This process continued for a few days and when the matter was brought to the notice of the Maharaja, he understood the whole idea and decided to build a temple at the same place.

Shree Ranbireshwar Temple

The biggest Shiva temple in north India. The temple has a central `lingam` measuring 8-feet in height, constructed out of black stone, is the biggest in India.
The temple built around 1880 by Maharaja Ranbir Singh.
Visiting Time: 5 AM to 9 PM every day.
How to go: It is located about 1.4 km from the north side of the bridge on Tawi river towards north and about 7 km from Aap Shambhu Mandir towards southeast at Shalamar Road near ciivil secretariat.


Raghunath Temple

The temple complex was started in 1822 by Gulab Singh and was dedicated to his guru Baba Prem Das. Its construction was completed in 1860 by his son Maharaja Ranbir Singh.
The temple complex is dedicated to Raghunath, another name for Rama.
Visiting Time: Sunday to Friday - 10 AM to 9 PM. Saturday - 9 AM to 9 PM.
How to go: It is located about 520 meters from Shree Ranbireshwar Temple towards southwest at Raghunath mandir chowk Jammu city.

Surinsar Lake

Visiting Time: The best time to visit this lake is from April to October.
How to go: It is located about 42 km from Jammu city towards east. Nearest Train station is Sangar Train station, about 7 km north from the lake.


Mansar Lake

Paddle Boat: 100 Rupee ($1.32) for 1 hour for 4 person.
Visiting Time: November-March is the best time to visit Mansar.
Accommodation: There are 1 or 2 hotels near Mansar Lake. Price range around 700-2500.
How to go: By bus from Jammu to Mansar. It takes about 45 Rupee ($0.59). It is located about 30 km from Surinsar Lake towards southeast. About 12 km from the nearest station Manwal Train station (between Sangar Train station and Udhampur station) towards south. About 62 km from Jammu.

Iskcon Temple

Visiting Time: From 7:30 AM to 1 PM and 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
How to go: It is located about 1.5 km from Udhampur Train station towards west.


Krimchi Temple

It is believed that the temple constructed in the 8th–9th century. The complex consists of four large and three small temples.
Visiiting Time: 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM every day.
How to go: It is located about 12 kms north from Udhampur city.


Day-6: Patnitop, Udhampur
From Jammu to Patnitop takes approximately 2-3 hours and costs 150-200 Rupee ($1.97-2.63) by a shared Sumo.
From Udhampur, it takes 1 hour to Patnitop.


Shud Mahadev

A few kilometers further from Sudh Mahadev is Mantlai above 1450 meters is surrounded by Deodar forest. According to legend, this is the place where Shiva was married to Goddess Parvati.
How to go: Shiva temple is located about 42 Km from Patnitop towards south.


Chenani-Nashri Tunnel

It is India's longest road tunnel with a length of 9.28 km on the way way of Jammu and Kashmir.
How to reach: Jammu road divided into Kashmir road (goes straight) and Patni Top road (goes right). The Tunnel is located the entrance of Kashmir road.

How to go: About 14 km trek from Patnitop through Sanasar Road.

How to go: About 5 km from Patnitop.

How to go: Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project is located on the Chenab River in the Doda district.


* If you like hiking you may go to Shivgarh. The one-day walk to Shivgarh at an altitude of 3,500 meters, which is about 11 km away from Patnitop.

Go by train to Katra from Jammu at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Train station. There are many hotels and luxurious resorts around the station.

Ardhkuwari Mandir

It is the half way of Vaishno Devi Temple.
How to go: It is about 6 km from Katra at an height 4800 feet. Katra is at an height of 2800 feet. So you have to hike the altitude 2000 feet up.


Vaishno Devi

How to go: It is 4 hours trek from Katra bus stand to 12 kilometers up on the hill. The new route is 500 meters shorter than the old route. This track has a very wide and gentle slope. This track has two viewpoints, three sales refreshment units, drinking water points. Near Himkoti Viewpoint, a number of tea, coffee and soft drink outlets, including a dosa point, have been set up.
There is a Helicopter service to take you from Katra foothill to the temple. It takes 8 minutes to reach. One way fare from Katra to Sanjhichatt Helipad (near Vaishno Devi temple) is 1730 Rupee ($22.76) per person. You must carry the Yatra registration slip, in order to buy tickets from the Heli-Ticket Counter. Also need ID proof such as Voter ID Card, Passport etc. You must also submit the proof of travel such as flight or train or bus ticket. Additional taxes are also charged.
Katra to Vaishnav Devi temple Pony ride cost is 400 Rrupee ($5.26) (Govt price) & 600-700 Rupee ($7.89-9.21) (pony owners price). Vaishnav Devi temple to Bhairon Ghati Pony ride cost 100-150 Rupee ($1.32-1.97) per person and distance 2 kilometers.
Battery Car from Ardhkuwari Mandir to Vaishno Devi 6 km distance takes 15-20 minutes. This ride is only for senior. The ticket price is 300 Rupee ($3.95) one way to Vaishno Devi and 200 Rupee ($2.63) on the way back. This track starts from Banganga to Bhawan via Ardhkuwari and Himkoti.



Day-10:

Baba Dhansar

There is a story that Hindus believe that when Shiva went to Amarnath cave to tell Parvati the story of his immortality, he left his serpent king, Sheshnag in Anantnag. Shesh Nag came in human form as Vasudev. One of the sons of Basudev was Dhansar who was a saint.
According to local belief, in ancient times a monster lived near Lake Karua and tortured the people of Karua village. The villagers sought the help of Baba Dhansar to get rid of the demon. It is believed that Baba Dhansa prayed to Lord Shiva for help. Lord Shiva came and helped to kill the demon. Baba Dhansar Temple and a cave of Shiva near Karua Lake have become a place of worship.
How to go: On the way of Katra to Bhimgarh Fort. About 9 km before Bhimgarh fort and 5.2 km after Aghaar Baba Jitto.


Bhimgarh Fort

Bhimgarh Fort was first constructed of clay by king Bhimdev Rasyal. Later reconstructed it using stone by Rishipal Rana. A new fort at the site was built in 1817-1841 by Raja Gulab Singh.
Visiting Time: 10 AM to 5 PM.
Entry Fee: 100 Rupee ($1.32).
How to go: It is located about 24 km from Katra towards northwest after crossing Aghaar Baba Jitto and Baba Dhansar on the way.


Sihad Baba Waterfall

July to October is the best time to see waterflow.
How to go: It is located about 8 km from Bhimgarh Fort towards northwest.


Chenab Bridge

It is said that Chenab bridge is the world's highest rail bridge at a height of 1,178 feet above the Chenab River.
Railway bridge steel and concrete arch bridge between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district.
How to go: The construction process is not over.



* There is a Rafting Point chenab near Dera Baba Banda Bahadur - Historical place. Cost around 1200 Rupee ($14.79) per person for 14 km rafting. 600 Rupee ($7.89) for 6 km rafting. May-June is the best time.


Day-11: Ransoo and Poonch
From Jammu one has to travel by road only to reach Poonch about 240 km. The buses from Jammu are available from 5 am to 12 noon. At Poonch there are many hotels and PWD Dak banglow Poonch available.

How to go: From ransoo vehicle goes to the base camp of the temple. Then you have to go 3 kilometers to the temple by foot.



Poonch Fort

The Poonch Fort was built in 1713 AD by Raja Rustum Khan.
How to go: About 27 km northwest from Surankote Valley.


Nangali Sahib Gurudwara

Shrine

Dera means permanent seat of Sikh Religion. It was founded in 1803 by Thakur Sant Bhai Mela Singh who stopped here to spread the message of Sikhism in the area. It is said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh visited the Gurudwara in 1819 and Maharaja Gulab Singh also visited the place in 1837.
How to go: It is located about 4 km from Poonch City on the left bank of Drungli nallaha.

Village

It is a small village. Swami Budha Amar Nath Ji temple is located in this village.
How to go: it is located about 20 km from Poonch town.


Loran

Village

Loran is a small village at the foot of high mountains of Pir Panjal range.
How to go: It is located about 35 km from Poonch town towards northeast.


Nandi Shool

It is about 150 feet high fall.

Noori Chamb

Waterfall

Noori Chhamb was named by the Mughal emperor Jahangir after his wife. Queen Noor Jahan who, it’s believed, used to bathe here during her visits here. It is also believed that she had a mirror mounted on the wall of the hill where she used to do her make-up after bathing. The remnants of the mirror are still present.
How to go: About 45 km from Poonch town. It is located 8 km away through Mughal road from Baflaiz, Poonch.


Peer ki Gali

Natural Beauty

The Mughal road was formerly called the Namak road. Jahangir traveled on it and named it Mughal Road in the early 17th century. Mughal Road is an alternative route from Poonch to Kashmir Valley and it has reduced the distance.
Pir ki Gali is an attractive natural place located at 1140 feet above the sea level at Mughal road.
How to go: It is located about 43 km away from Buffliaz Poonch and 41km from Shopian.


Surankote Valley

Surankote is a town in the Surankote Tehsil of the Poonch district. It receives snowfall in winters. It is famous for the existence of lakes (9 are major and few small).
How to go: About 27 km southeast from Poonch city.


Valley of Seven Lakes

Also called Girgan Dhok is valley where seven lakes is the main attraction of the valley and these are Bagh Sar, Chandan Sar, Kali Dachani, Katora Sar, Neel Sar, Nandan Sar and Sukh Sar. Among them Nandan Sar is the largest.
How to go: It is located about 25 km from Noori Chamb and 70 km from Poonch city.
