How to Reach Bangkok

You can reach Bangkok by air from any country or any city in Thailand. The main airport is Suvarnabhumi Airport. Another is Don Mueang International Airport.
Find a cheap flight from below. This is my favorite search engines because it compares fare from all airlines and show the cheapest one first. Enter your depart and return date. If one way then cross the return date.


By bus, train or ferry, you can reach Bangkok from any other city in Thailand. Best way to book online from below. It helps me specially during peak seasons. During peak seasons or holidays, I usually book ticket few days before.

Hotels in Bangkok

Bangkok is a tourist city. You will find different types of hotels everywhere. But both airports are far from tourist spot. So decide first where to stay and start for that place from airport.
If you stay around Bangkok Hua Lamphong Main Train Station then it will be easy for you to move every places. Hua Lamphong station is about 32.2 km distance from Suvarnabhumi airport and 27 km from Don Mueang airport.


You will also get cheapest hostel there.

Vimanmek Mansion

Museum

The Vimanmek Mansion was constructed in 1900 and inaugurated on 27 March 1901. There are 72 rooms in Vimanmek Palace was used as a royal palace by King Rama V for five years. In 1932, it was used as a storage place by the Bureau of the Royal Household. In 1982, Queen Sirikit asked to King Rama IX to convert it as a museum. Museum will display photographs of King Rama V and the art works, handicrafts and Thai national heritage.
Visiting Time: 8.30 AM to 4.30 PM.
Entry Fee: 500 Baht (including Grand Palace and Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall).
How to go: It is situated at Rajavithee Road. Close to Dusit Zoo and the Dusit Palace complex.

Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall

Museum

Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall construction started in 1903 and completed in 1904 in the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). It was used as a throne hall and banquet facilities for Dusit Palace.
Now it use for a museum about Thai Handicraft in Bangkok.

Visiting Time: 9.30 AM to 4 PM.
Entry Fee: 500 Baht (including Grand Palace and Vimanmek Mansion).
How to go: It is besides Vimanmek Mansion.

Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall

Museum

It was commissioned by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) in 1908. The building was completed in 1915, 5 years after Rama V's death in 1910. It was used as a royal reception hall within Dusit Palace.
Now it use for a museum about the Arts of the Kingdom exhibition and handicrafts produced under the sponsorship of the Queen Sirikit Institute.
Visiting Time: 9.30 AM to 4 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee:50 Baht.
How to go: It is besides the Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall and Dusit Zoo.

Dusit Zoo

Zoo

Also called as ‘Khao Din’. It has facilities like an animal hospital, a zoo museum and educational center, a sightseeing train and an activities ground. With more than 1600 domestic and international species.
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 6 PM
Entry Fee: Local: 100 Baht for adults, 50 Baht for teachers, university students, government officers in uniform, 20 Baht for children, Free of charge for above 60 years, handicapped, monks.
Foreigners: 150 Baht for adults, 70 Baht for children.

How to go: It is situated just besides Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall.

Wat Benchamabophit

Buddhist Temple

Also known as the marble temple. Temple construction began in 1899 at the request of King Chulalongkorn.
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 5.30 PM.
Entry Fee: 20 Baht.
How to go: Walking distance from Dusit Zoo.

Wat Somanas Rajavaravihara

Buddhist Temple

Officially named Watsomanas Ratchawora Wiharn, this temple was built as an act of merit by King Rama 4, Phrabat somdej Phra chomklao.
Visiting Time: Visiting Time: 8 AM to 5.30 PM.
How to go: Only 760 meters from Wat Benchamabophit towards south.

Wat Sunthon

How to go: 560 meters walking distance from Wat Somanas.

Wat Sitaram

How to go: 200 meters walking distance from Wat Sunthon.

Wat Saket

This temple is officially known as Wat Saket Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan and is also called the Golden Mount and Phu Khao Thong. This temple was built on an artificial man-made hill. To get to the top requires a climb up about 300 steps. Every year, usually in November, Wat Saket hosts a temple fair.
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 5 PM
Entry Fee: 50 Baht.
How to go: It is situated at 540 meters from Wat Sitaram.

Loha Prasat

Buddhist Temple

Also known as Wat Ratchanadda, Metal castle. The temple was built to the order of King Nangklao (Rama III) for the princess granddaughter, Somanass Waddhanawathy in 1846.
Entry Fee: 20 Baht.
How to go: It is situated 500 meters from Wat Saket.

Giant Swing

Religious Structure

It was formerly used in an old Brahmin ceremony. The Giant Swing was constructed in 1784 at another place by King Rama I. During the reign of Rama II the swing ceremony was discontinued. In 1920, it was renovated and moved at this place. The ceremony was again performed until 1935.
Visiting Time: Anytime.

How to go: About 600 meters walking distance from Loha Prasat temple.

Wat Suthat

Buddhist Temple

Construction was begun by King Rama I in 1807 CE. It is one of ten temples (first grade) in Bangkok.
Visiting Time: 8.30 AM to 9 PM
Entry Fee: 20 Baht.
How to go: Besides Giant Swing.

Democracy Monument

Monument

The monument was commissioned in 1939 as a manorial of 1932 Revolution.

Bangkok National Museum

Museum

One of the largest museums in Southeast Asia. This is the museum of Thai art and history. It is the former palace of Vice King. The museum was opened in 1874 by King Rama V.
Visiting Time: 9 AM to 4 PM from Wednesday to Sunday.
Entry Fee: 200 Baht for foreigner.
How to go: It is situated 1 km from Democracy Monument towards west at 4 Na Phra That Alley, Khwaeng Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Khet Phra Nakhon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.

Wat Mahathat

Buddhist Temple

This is the headquarters of Thailand’s largest monastic order and Vipassana Meditation Center. It is an important centre for the study of Buddhism and meditation. It was originally built to house a relic of the Buddha and one of the oldest temples in Bangkok.
Visiting Time: 7 AM to 10 AM, 1 PM to 4 PM, 6 PM to 8 PM.
Entry Fee: 50 Baht.
How to go: It is About 350 meters walking distance from national museum.

Ancient Artillery Museum

Open Air Museum

An open air museum. There are 40 old cannons on display here.You can see old cannons from late Ayutthaya period.
Visiting Time: 12 AM to 12 PM.
Entry Fee: Free.
How to go: It is located on the grounds of the old yellow building of the Ministry of Defence. Just opposite of Grand Palace.


Grand Palace

Royal Palace

This was the former residence of King Rama of the Rattanakosin Kingdom.
Visiting Time: 8.30 AM to 3.30 PM
Entry Fee: 500 Baht (including Vimanmek Palace and Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall)
How to go: About 500 meters from Wat Mahathat towards south.
Inside Premises: Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Wat Phra

Buddhist Temple

It is one of the largest temple complexes in the city wherein a giant reclining Buddha measures 46 meters long, is all covered in gold leaf.
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 6.30 PM
Entry Fee: 100 Baht and Free for kids under 4 feet.
How to go: Besides Grand Palace.

Museum Siam

Museum

Visiting Time: 10 AM to 6 PM. Monday remains closed.
Entry Fee: 50 Baht for students, 100 Baht for Thai adults and 200 Baht for foreigners.
How to go: About 250 meters walking distance from Wat Phra.

Wat Prayoon

Buddhist Temple

Full name Wat Prayurawongsawas Worawihan.
Entry Fee: Free
How to go: Just opposite of the Chao Phraya river from Museum Siam. You have to cross the river by bridge which is about 700 meter towards East. The temple is on the right side after crossing the bridge.


Wat Kalayanamit

Buddhist Temple

The temple was established in 1825 by Chaophraya Nikonbodin, a Thai Chinese trader, who donated the temple to Rama III.
Entry Fee: Free
How to go: 700 meters from Wat Prayoon towards west.

Thonburi Palace

Museum

Also known as Phra Racha Wang Derm. It is the former royal palace of King Taksin. Some kings were born in Thon Buri Palace, including King Rama III, King Rama IV and King Pinklao, who was the second son of King Rama I. The royal residence was turned into a museum.
Visiting Time: 9 AM to 3.30 PM.
Entry Fee: 100 Baht for adult and 60 Baht for kid.
How to go: Just besides Wat Arun.


Wat Arun

Buddhist Temple

Wat Arun, also known as the ‘Temple of the Dawn’. It looks more gorgeous during the sunset.
Entry Fee: 100 Baht
How to go: It is situated on the bank of the river. About 900 meters from Wat Kalayanamit.

Wat Rakhang

Buddhist Temple

The temple was originally called Wat Bang Wa Yai and in the reign of King Taksin (1767 – 1782).
Visiting Time: 8 AM to 5 PM.
How to go: About 1.36 km from Wat Arun

Museum opened in 1952. this museum preserves and displays Thai antiques that have a history of over 4,000 years.

How to go: It is situated at 352 354 Thanon Si Ayutthaya, Khwaeng Thanon Phaya Thai, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.

Jim Thompson’s House Museum

Jim was the famous American Spy stayed in Thailand after World War II ended, and revived the lost art in the city. The collection and construction of the six buildings here very well reflect the grandeur of the traditional Thai architecture.

Inside the premises there is a section of Photopia, which decorated like fairy tales, Another section is Seven Wonders of the World. Another section is Love Garden, romantically decorated. Another section is Crazy Zone
Visiting Time: 10 AM to 5 PM (Monday to Friday), 10 AM to 7 PM (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays).

How to go: Package will take you from your hotel and drop you. But if you want to go there of your own then you have to go by AC bus, leaves from Victory Monument to North Bangkok University Station. fare 25 Baht and takes 1 hour to reach. Then you have to cross a foot over bridge. Then walk 100 meters and cross another bridge. You will find Dream World free Shuttle bus services.

Safari World

Zoo

Safari World is divided in two areas. Safari Park, here you can drive through in your car or in the park bus represents 480 acres open zoo and 180 acres bird park. Another part is Marine Park, which is a traditional zoo mixed with many shows, lots of food stalls and souvenir shops.
Visiting time: Safari Park - 9 AM to 5 PM and Marine Park 9 AM to 6 PM.
Entry Fee: Safari Park- 400 Baht for adult and 300 Baht for children. Marine Park - 700 Baht for adult and 450 Baht for children. Both park - 900 Baht for adults and 550 Baht for children.
How to go: It is situated at 99 99, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.

Siam Park City

Largest water park in Asia. There is a World's largest wave pool. 7-story-rainbow slide, Si-AM Lagoon, Super Spiral, Flowing Pool, Mini Slide, Spa Club.

You will find three-headed elephant statue at its entry.

Floating Markets Tour

There are few weekend floating markets held at little far from Bangkok. Damnoen Saduak and Amphawa are two popular floating markets.
