It is said that, it is the site where Saint Juan Diego met the Virgin of Guadalupe in December 1539. There are statues in the hill.

It is one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world.
The Spanish conquerors destroyed a temple. Then a chapel was built in 1531-1532 at the foot of Tepeyac Hill. New Basilica was built 1695-1709. It was got the title of collegiate in 1750 and was aggregated to the Basilica of St. John Lateran in 1754. It was designated as a basilica In 1904.
How to go: By Metro Line 6 to the ‘La Villa Basilica’ stop and then walk several blocks to the plaza or by taking the Metro Bus Line 1 to its end at Indios Verdes and walk from there.

Plaza de las Tres Culturas

Square

Square of the Three Cultures is a square. Here 3 cultures means the buildings around this square are 3 periods of Mexican history (pre-Columbian, Spanish colonial and independent nation). The square was completed in 1966.
How to go: It is located about 1.5 km from the north end of Buenavista metro station towards east through Avenue Ricardo Flores Magón and 4.5 km from Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Morisco Kiosk

The Morisco Kiosk was built during 1884 World’s Fair in New Orleans as the Mexico Pavilion. It was brought to Mexico after the events. It was first installed in Alameda Park and later moved to its present location.
How to go: It is located 400 meters from Buenavista metro station towards west at avenue Ribera de San Cosme, Sta María la Ribera, Cuauhtémoc.


Museo Universitario del Chopo

It exhibits contemporary arts. The building was built as a pavilion for a 1902 art and textile exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany. It was shipped to Mexico after the event, and reassembled between 1903 and 1905.

Ninos Heroes

The monument was built to commemorate the six Mexican military cadets who were killed during the Battle of Chapultepec (Mexican–American War on 13 September 1847).
How to go: It is located east end of Chapultepec park.


Chapultepec Castle

Castle

In 1785 Viceroy Bernardo de Gálvez ordered the construction his home at the highest point of Chapultepec Hill. The construction started on 16 August 1785. Bernardo died on November 8, 1786.
The Spanish Crown ordered to auction the unfinished building at a one-fifth what spent on its construction. The building was bought by the municipal government of Mexico City in 1806. It was taken by United States forces during the Battle of Chapultepec. The Niños Héroes died defending the castle on September 13, 1847.
Maximilian I was an Austrian archduke established the Second Mexican Empire on 10 April 1864. The castle became his residence in 1864. He renovated the castle until his execution on 19 June 1867. After that the castle became unused.
An Astronomical, Meteorological and Magnetic Observatory was established on the site in 1876 for five years.
The castle became the presidential residence. Porfirio Díaz Mori was a Mexican general and politician who served seven terms as President of Mexico from 17 February 1877 to 1 December 1880 and from 1 December 1884 to 25 May 1911. After that, it remained the presidential residence. Presidents Francisco I Madero (1911-13), Venustiano Carranza (1915-20), Álvaro Obregón (1920-24), Plutarco Elías Calles (1924-28), Emilio Portes Gil (1928-30), Pascual Ortiz Rubio (1930-32) and Abelardo Rodríguez (1932-34).
President Lázaro Cárdenas (1934-40) moved the official Mexican presidential residence to 'Los Pinos' in 1934 and never lived in Chapultepec Castle. He declared Chapultepec Castle as the National Museum of History on February 3, 1939. The museum was opened on September 27, 1944 during the presidency of Manuel Avila Camacho (1940-46).
In 1996, the castle was a location for the movie William Shakespeare's 'Romeo + Juliet' starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.

Casa del Lago Juan José Arreola

The building construction started in 1906. It was first inaugurated as the headquarters of the first Automobile Club in Mexico until April 30, 1908.
It used as the Biological Studies Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Development from 1929 to 1959.
It opened as cultural center on 10 May 1959.

Los Pinos

Los Pinos was the official residence and office of the President of Mexico from 1934 to 2018.
President Lázaro Cárdenas (1934-40) moved the official Mexican presidential residence from Chapultepec Castle to 'Los Pinos' in 1934 and never lived in Chapultepec Castle.
Los Pinos was home to 13 out of 14 presidents of Mexico from 1935 to 2018, except president Adolfo López Mateos (1958–1964). President Vicente Fox (2000=2006) chose one of the nearby cottages as his home.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (from 2018) was opened Los Pinos to the public on December 1, 2018 and he moved the presidential offices to the National Palace. Since then, it is now using as a cultural Center.

Casa Estudio Luis Barragán

It is the former residence of architect Luis Barragán (March 9, 1902 - November 22, 1988). He won the Pritzker Prize (the highest award in architecture) in 1980. The house was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Barragán purchased the property in 1939. The house was designed and built in 1947. Barragán lived there until his death in 1988. Later, government acquired the house and turned it into a museum in 1994.
Visiting Time: Monday to Friday - 10 AM to 5 PM. Saturday and Sunday - 10 AM to 1 PM.

How to go: It starts from Jarding Gorostiza Garden (northeast) and headed to southwest. then turn west inside the Chapultepec Park. Then turn again southwest till Ibero 90.9 Radio broadcaster (about 1.9 km from Kidzania towards northeast).



Day-10:

Desierto de los Leones

Desert of the Lions is a 4613 acres park considered to be the oldest protected biosphere in Mexico. There is a abandonned convent which was first started to build on January 23, 1606. But in 1722 it was demolished and the current convent was built in 1814.
The forest Desierto de los Leones became the first National Park in the country in 1917.
Visiting Time: 11 AM to 5 PM.
Entry Fee: 20 Peso ($0.98) for Park and 12 Peso ($0.59) for convent.
How to go: It is located about 6.5 km from Santa Fe near Kidzania. Bus may goes to the park from Viveros metro stop. Please check it. Best way by Taxi.

Day-14:

Island of the Dead Dolls

The island owner was Don Julian Santana Barrera. he used to go to drink pulque after selling his vegetables. It is said that a young girl drowned entangled among the lilies of the canal and died. Julian believed that the spirit of the girl roaming around the island. He started hanging dolls on different trees as protection from evil spirits.
Julian died in 2001 but The dolls are still on the island.
The 1943 Mexican romantic film 'María Candelaria' shooting was held on this island. The island became pupular.
Entry Fee: 40 Peso ($1.97).
How to go: The island is accessible by boat. Go first to mbarcadero Cuemanco Xomichilco by bus or train. From there go by boat. Avoid weekend at high rate. Fare about 2000 Peso ($98.3) return. It takes 4 hours roundtrip. There are few fake islands of same kind with few dolls. So carefull about that.

Palace of the Inquisition

The building was built in 1736. It was sold in 1838. After that, a number of changes were made till School of Medicine (UNAM) bought it in 1854. By this time it served as lottery offices, a primary school and a military barracks, a boarding school. UNAM used as a school of medicine and nursing. They moved in 1950s. A museum was inaugurated on 22 December 1980. It exhibits the history of medicine in Mexico.

Former College of San Ildefonso

National Palace

Government Office

This site has been a palace since the reign of Moctezuma II (1466 – 29 June 1520), the ninth ruler of the Aztec Empire (1427-1521).
Hernán Cortés (1485 – December 2, 1547) was a Spanish Conquistador defeated them in 1521. Cortés rebuild the palace from 1521 to 1530.
In 1562, the Spanish Crown bought the palace and land from Martin Cortés, son of Hernán Cortés. The palace was set on fire in 1624. On 8 June 1692, the palace was almost completely destroyed. Viceroy Gaspar de Sandoval reconstructed the palace.
After the independence of Mexico on Sep 27, 1821, Viceroy Palace was renamed as "National Palace".
