Madonna Queen of the Universe National Shrine

It was built in 1954 by the Don Orione Fathers. The 35-foot-tall bronze and copper Madonna statue. This is a replica of the original 35 feet tall Madonna statue on the hill of Montemario, overlooking Rome. Replica was made and shipped to Boston and erected at Don Orione Nursing Home at Orient Heights. Later it was moved to it's current place.

Bunker Hill Monument

On June 17, 1775, New England soldiers faced the British army. The place is popularly known as "The Battle of Bunker Hill". A early 18-foot wooden column memorial was built in memory of fallen Bunker Hill hero Dr. Joseph Warren, in 1794. Later a 221-foot granite obelisk was built in 1825-1843. A statue of Col. William Prescott, another hero of Bunker Hill was built in front of obelisk in the 1850s. There is museum at the hill.

Old State House

The previous wooden Town House was built in 1657. It was burned by fire in 1711. The present state house was built at his place in 1712-1713 as the seat of the Massachusetts General Court until 1798. The interior was rebuilt in 1748, after a fire in 1747. After the American Revolution, the building served as the seat of the state government until 1798.
It was used as the Boston's city hall from 1830 to 1841. After that, the building was used as commercial building until 1881. Bostonian Society restored the building in 1881–1882 to preserve the Old State House.
Museum occupied rooms from 1909 to 1947. Queen Elizabeth II visited the Old State House with her husband on July 11, 1976.

Old Corner Book Store
Historical Building
At this place, there was a home of Anne Hutchinson. Thomas Crease purchased the home in 1708. The house was burned down by fire on October 2, 1711. He was built a new house there in 1718. It was built in 1718 as a residence.
Dr. Samuel Clarke, father of James Freeman Clarke, bought the building in 1817. The building was used as a bookstore until 1828. It was used as a publishing company, "Ticknor and Fields", from 1832 to 1865. They used the whole building as publishing purpose and only the corner for a retail store. It became a meeting-place for such authors as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Charles Dickens, and Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. The Old Corner Bookstore was sold to E. P. Dutton On November 12, 1864.

The school was built in 1823-1825 as "English High School". It was converted to "Phillips Grammar School" in 1844. It was named after John Phillips, the first mayor of Boston. The school moved and new school formed in 1863 as "Wendell Phillips School". The building is now a private residence.

John J. Smith House

John James Smith (1820 – 1906), a barber shop owner, abolitionist, 3 times Massachusetts state representative, and African-American members of the Boston Common Council. He stayed in this house from 1878-1893.

Charles Street Meeting House

The church was built in 1804-1807. The AME Church sold the building to the Charles Street Meeting House Society in 1939. The building was sold to a private owner in 1979. The Meeting House was purchased by the Charles Street Meeting House Associates in 1980.

Lewis and Harriet Hayden House
Historical Building
This was the residence of Lewis and Harriet Hayden. Lewis Hayden (December 2, 1811 – April 7, 1889) was born into slavery in Lexington, Kentucky. His first wife and their son were sold to U.S. Senator. Hayden remarried Harriet Bell. They escaped to Ohio and then along the Underground Railroad to Canada in 1844, with the help of abolitionists. In 1845, they returned to the in Detroit, United States and by January 1846 they had moved to Boston. They moved into the house around 1849. The house was purchased in 1853 by Francis Jackson. Lewis and Harriet Hayden took care of the African Americans who had escaped from slavery. Lewis Hayden played a significant role to prevent slavery. Later he worked for the Massachusetts Secretary of State from 1859 to 1889. Lewis Hayden died on April 7, 1889. After Harriet Hayden died in 1893, she donated money to create scholarships for African American students at Harvard Medical School.

The John Coburn House was the home of John P. Coburn (1811–1873), an African-American abolitionist who aided people on the Underground Railroad. The house was built in 1843-1844. The home is currently a private residence.

School
This was the first public school for free blacks in United States. African-American parents organized a school for their children in 1798. Abiel Smith, a white philanthropist, left money in his will for the education of black children. This school was built in 1835.

The building was built in between 1704 and 1714. It was used as a garments product business. Louis Philippe (king of France from 1830 to 1848) lived in exile on the second floor in 1796. He earned his living by teaching French to young women. The restaurant opened on August 3, 1826 as the "Atwood & Bacon Oyster House". Many famous people used to come at the restaurant such as Kennedy family and Daniel Webster. John Royston Coleman, Labor economist and president of Haverford College, worked here for a time in the 1970s.

It was built in 1634 and was rebuilt in 1644. The fort was destroyed by fire on 21 March 1673 and was rebuilt in 1674.
During the Boston Massacre in 1770 forced provincial leaders and British soldiers took shelter within the fort. As the American Revolution erupted in 1775, British forces made Castle William their primary stronghold. After it was evacuated, the fort was quickly re-built by American forces in 1776. It was used as prison from 1785 to 1805.
The fort was re-built and expanded in 1800-1803. Work on the present fort was to begin in 1833 and completed in 1848.
