June 16 Memorial Acre

On June 16, 1976, when students across the Soweto were confronted by security forces while protesting against racist education.

Vilakazi Street

About 950 meters east-west street famous for housed resident of Nelson Mandela.

How to go: It starts from Khuele Street (west end), about 1.5 km from Mofolo Park towards east to Moema Street (east end).


Mandela's House

Museum


Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader. He served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He served as the president of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.

Nelson Mandela lived in this house from 1946 to 1962. Mandela came back to the house after his release from prison in 1990 and after 11 days back at the house he moved out again.

After renovation, it was opened to the public on 19 March 2009.

Visiting Time: 9 AM to 4.45 PM every day.

Entry Fee: 60 Rand ($3.92) for foreign adult and 40 Rand ($2.61) for local adult. 20 Rand ($1.31) for student and child.

Hector Pieterson Museum

Hector Pieterson was a South African schoolboy who was shot and killed during the Soweto uprising. Also more than 170 protesting school children were killed.

The museum exhibits films, newspapers, personal accounts and photographs.

Visiting Time: Monday to Saturday - 10 AM to 5 PM. Sunday - 10 AM to 4.30 PM.

Entry Fee: 30 Rand ($1.96) for adult. 5 Rand ($0.33) for child aged 6-12.

How to go: It is located about 300 meters from Mandela's House towards north at 8287 Khumalo road, Orlando West.

Visiting Time: 10 AM to 6 PM every day.

Entry Fee: 195 Rand ($12.75) for adult. 125 Rand ($8.17) for child. 115 Rand ($7.92) for entry fee without rides for all. 165 Rand ($10.78) for student and senior age above 60.

How to go: It is located Corner of Northern Parkway & Data Crescent, Ormonde.

Attractions: Movies, Theater, Apartheid Museum, Rides, Wedding Chapel, Souvenir shop, Hotels, Gold Reef City Casino, Tower of Terror (Roller coaster).

Santorama Miniland

Nothing special actually and you can omit this place.

How to go: It is located at 183 Rosettenville Road, Glenesk.


James Hall Museum of Transport

Largest transport museum in South Africa.

Visiting Time: Tuesday to Sunday - 9 AM to 5 PM. Monday remains closed
