Bagerhat ( বাগেরহাট )
District of Bangladesh

Bagerhat is a district in Khuna Division of Bangladesh. Bagerhat declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 1983 as the Mosque City of Bagerhat.

Bagerhat is bounded by Gopalganj District and Narail District on the north, The Bay of Bengal on the south, Gopalganj District, Pirojpur District and Barguna District on the east and Khulna District on the west.



How to Reach Bagerhat

By Air: Barishal Airport (IATA Code-BZL) is the nearest airport from Bagerhat. Distance about 34 km.

Buy cheapest air ticket from the app below or check flight fares in Bangladeshi Taka. Or check airfares in other currencies - USD, Canadian Dollar, Euro, Russian Ruble, Indian Rupee.

Type your destination "Barisal" and select it from drop down menu. Enter your Depart date and Return date. If one-way then cross the Return date. If more than 1 passenger, enter. If you want business class click on "Business class" and click on search
.



By Bus: Buses go to Bagerhat from different places of Dhaka.

From Saydabad, Dhaka there are many buses such as Meghna, Bonophul, Porjotok leaves for Bagerhat.

From Gaabtoli, Dhaka, there are many buses such as Shohag, Shukura, Hanif, Eagle. Bus fare 300-400 Taka. Approximate time 7 hours to reach.

From Khulna, you can go by bus from Shonadanga bus stand you will find gate lock bus, fare 60 Taka.



Hotels in Bagerhat

There are many AC and Non AC hotels at bus stand Bagerhat. If you want more comfortable and deluxe hotel then you have to go far from Bagerhat at Mongla.

Near Mongla bus stand you will get a Govt. Rest house and bar - Hotel Pashur & Bar. Room Rent Non A/C double 1200 Taka and AC double 2000 Taka. No single room available.

Shat Gombuz Mosque (Sixty Domed Mosque)

Historical Mosque

The Shat (Sixty) Gambuj Mosque built in 1459, considered a most unusual structure in the whole of the Asian sub-continent, has been declared a World Heritage Site.

How to go: If you come from other district, this mosques is on the way to go Bagerhat District Bus Stand. About 7 Km before Bagerhat bus stand. So If you want to visit here, must tell the bus helper to drop you there. Tell them few times cause they may forget. If you come from Bagerhat bus stand, you have to come here by VAN.

Khan Jahan Ali Mazar

Khan Jahan Ali was an Muslim Sufi Saint and local ruler in Bagerhat, Bangladesh. It was believed that he was an officer of the Bengal Sultan Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah and he build the Sixty Domed Mosque.
He founded mosques, madrasa, roads, highways, bridges and a large number of pons in Bagerhat.
Khan Jahan died on 25 October 1459

How to go: It is few distance from Shat Gombuz Mosque to on the way of Bagerhat. You have to go by local bus to Khan Jahan Ali Mazar station. Bus fare 5 taka or by Van will take 10-15 taka. Turn right from main road. Walk few meters you will find Khan Jahan Ali Mazar.

Khan Jahan Ali Dighi

Pond

Behind Khan Jahan Ali Mazar you will find a big pond. You also can see this pond from opposite of Nine Domed Mosque (I shoot photos from there).

From Khan Jahan Ali Mazar Gate turn right besides the road of Mazar boundary and go few meters then turn left along with Mazar boundary. Then turn right. walk few meters then turn left and walk few meters then on the right side of the road you will get this mosque

Kodla Moth

Hindu Temple

If you have time you can visit this Moth. Cause it is about 10 Km far from Bagerhat town. You can omit this

How to go: From Bagerhat hire Ricksha or Van and go to Jatrapur Bazar or Station. From there you have to walk 3 Km to Ojoddha village where the Moth is.

Sundarban Resort and Picnic Corner

Artificial Park

It is an artificial nice park best for local people. You may go if you have time.
Entry Fee: 30 taka.
How to go: It is in Barakpur, Bagerhat. From shat gombuz mosque to few kilo away towards Khulna. You can go by VAN. fare 15 taka per person.

Chandra Mahal

Artificial Park

This is a nice house. House owner is living abroad with family. So he made a artificial park in his land. It is best for local people. You may go if you have time.

How to go: It is in Ranjitpur, Katakhali, Bagerhat. From Khulna you can go by Mongla bus, Ranjitpur is the Next stoppage from  Katakhali. Helper knows Chandra Mahal road. Tell him he will drop you there.

From Bagerhat you have to go by Khulna bus and tell them to drop you Katakhali. From Katakhali another local bus goes to Mongla. It will take 10 taka.

Mongla Oil Jetty

This is actually not for you but local people spend sometimes here. It is few meters after Mongla Port behind Engineers Building. From Mongla port you can hire VAN, fare 20 taka.


Sundarban
The UNESCO declared Sundarban 798th World Heritage Site on the 6th December, 1997 which includes 3 wildlife sanctuaries. Forest lover and Birder will definitely love this tour. World's largest Mangrove forest.

How to Go: Mongla bus stand is few kilo ahead from Mongla Port. You can hire Boat to go Sundarban. it may take up-down 800 Taka. Don't go every places in Sundarban.

I recommend you to visit Sundarban with a package group. It will be highly secured and you can travel and stay night inside the jungle. Package includes luxurious accommodation and food and other all facilities inside the boat. There are many package group you will find on internet.

Sundarban covered southern parts of few districts in Bangladesh. I'm describing here few points of Sundarban to visit which are close from Mongla.

Koromjal

Koromjal is a forest station. The entry point of the Sundarbans. This place is about 05 km from Mongla Sea port.

Attraction:
* About 700 meters wooden trail inside the forest.
* Deer & Crocodile breeding centre.
* Boating in the small cannel.
* Mangrove forest visit.

Local: 20 Taka
Local age under 12: 10 Taka
Foreigner: 300 Taka
Use of video camera: Local 200 Taka and Foreigner 300 Taka
15% VAT will be added with above price

Herbaria

This place is recently developed as Eco-tourism center and it is about 14 km from Mongla.

Attraction:
* Observation tower inside the forest.
* Hanging bridge


Hironpoint (Nilkomol)

This is also known as "Hiron-Point" and about 80 km from mongla. This is another tourist spot in Sunderban. It is called the world heritage state. You can enjoy the beauty of wild nature and spotted dears walking and running in Hiron-point.
Attraction:
* Watch tower inside the keora forest.
* King cobra, otter, wild boar, spotted deer sitting.
* Tiger spotting.
* World heritage site plague.


Dublar Char

Dublar Char (Island) for fishermen. It is a beautiful island where herds of spotted deer are often seen to graze.
This island is the most largest fishing centre in Sundarban and about 80 km from Mongla. About 1,50,000 people are associated in the fishing activities.


Attraction:
* Offers natural and cultural attractions to the visitors.
* Species diversity of fish and crab.
* Annual religious celebration of ‘Rush Mela'


Katka

Katka is one of Heritage sites in Sunderban. In Katka there is a wooden watching tower of 40, fit high from where you can enjoy the scenic beauty of Sunderban. A beautiful sea beach is there is Katka, you will enjoy while. This place is about 150 km from Khulna city and 100 km from Mongla.

Attraction:
* Huge spotted deer herds in close to rest house.
* Jamtala nature watch tower.
* Royal Bengal Tiger spotting if you are lucky enough.
* Badamtala virgin and wilderness beach where you can see tiger pug mark early in the morning.
* Rest house with security.


Khochikhaly

Beach lovers will like this. This place is 14 km east of Katka.

Attraction:
* Butterfly Park.
* Deer, Monkey, Monitor lizards sitting.
* Tiger Spotting.
* Rest house with security.
* Dimmer char & pokhir char island offer excellent wildlife viewing an breeding ground for Olive Ridley Turtles.



Important Places in Bagerhat


Mongla EPZ:

Just opposite of the Mongla Port. Tell the bus helper to drop you in front of Mongla Port Gate. From Mongla port gate walk just opposite road and you can see Mongla EPZ.
