There is only one and must visit place in Rajsamand is Kumbhalgarh Fort.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

Fort

It is UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fort wall is the second longest continuous wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. Also called "Great Wall of India".  The fort is the second largest fort in India after Chittorgarh Fort.

Kumbhalgarh built from 1443 to 1458 by Mewar king Rana Kumbha. Rana Kumbha was killed by his son Udai Singh I in 1468. When Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat besieged Chittorgarh Fort in 1535, Udai Singh II, was sent to Kumbhalgarh for safety. His son Maharana Pratap was born there in 1540.

In the battle of Haldi Ghati in 1576 between Maharana Pratap and Emperor Akbar’s soldiers. Mughals won, Maharana Pratap managed to escape. Maharana Pratap recovered it in the 1582 Battle of Dewair near Haldi Ghati.

Manarana Pratap's son Rana Amar Singh I reluctantly gave up the fight and surrendered to Mughal Emperor Jehangir in 1615.

The fort was finally returned to the Mewar kings, when Maharana Bhim Singh signed an alliance treaty with the British East India Company in 1818.

During his reign from 1884 to 1930, Maharana Fateh Singh carried out restoration works at Kumbhalgarh. He added the Badal Mahal at the fort's highest point.

After India's independence from the British, Kumbhalgarh became a protected under the Archeological Survey of India.

Visiting Time: 9 AM to 6 PM every day.

Entry Fee: Rs.15 for Indians and SAARC and Rs.200 for foreigner.

Inside the Premises: Three palaces such as Kumbha Palace, Jhalia ka Malia (Maharana Pratap was born here) and Badal Mahal.
