Hoa Lo Prison Relic

The prison was built by the French in between 1886 and 1901. It aimed for particularly political prisoners agitating for independence who were often subject to torture and execution. Following the defeat at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu (13 March 1954 to 7 May 1954) and the 1954 Geneva Accords the French left Hanoi and the prison came under the authority of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
Most of the prison was demolished in the mid-1990s and the site now contains two high-rise buildings retaining the original French colonial walls. Only part of the prison exists today as a museum.

The island was used for fishing. Le Thanh Tong (25 August 1442 – 3 March 1497) was built a tower on the island to improve the king's fishing comfort. A Ta Vong Temple was built on the island during the Tranh lords (1545–1787), but it disappeared during the reign of the Nguyen lords (1558–1777).
While Vietnam was occupied by the French, a musician who was secretly working for the French. was built a three-story tower in 1886. He secretly buried his father within the tower. Later, residents of the city removed his father's body from the structure. In 1890, the French installed a miniature Statue of Liberty on top of the tower. In 1945, the Vietnamese government had the statue removed.
How to go: It is located in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake. You can see but cannot go to there.
Ngoc Son Temple

Also called the Temple of the Jade Mountain Temple. There is a first gate. Chinese letters are written in red color. Happiness (Phuc) in the right and Prosperity (Loc) in the left. After first gate there is a 28 meters tower named Thap But (means pen tower). The tower was built in 1865. There is written on the "Ta Thanh Thien" (means "Writing on the clear blue Sky"). You have to cross a red beautiful Huc Bridge (the Bridge of the Rising Sun). After crossing The Huc Bridge, you will see the second gate, Dac Nguyet Lau (Moon Gazing Pavilion). There is a symbol of a dragon on the right hand, and symbol of a turtle on the left hand. After that, Tran Ba Dinh (Tidal Wave Defense Pavilion). Turn left to Ngoc Son Temple. There are 3 sculpture inside the temple - the statue of Tran Hung Dao, the statue of Van Xuong De Quan and the statue of Amitabha.

Imperial Citadel of Thang Long

It was first constructed in 1011 by Emperor Ly Thai To (1009-1028) of Ly dynasty. It was used as Vietnamese court until 1810. More than 4,000 French soldiers were captured and kept prisoned in this citadel by the Japanese army during the Japanese coup d'état in French Indochina in March 1945.
Monuments in the Nguyen Dynasty’s Ancient Citadel include the Flag Tower (Ky Dai), the South Gate (Doan Mon), the Kinh Thien Palace Foundation, the Princess’s Pagoda (Hau Lau), and the North Gate (Bac Mon).
The archaeological site and the central sector of the imperial citadel was listed in UNESCO's World Heritage Site.

How to go: It is located southwest side of Thung lung hoa ho Tay on the north bank of West Lake at 614 Lac Long Quan in Tay Ho District.
