Basilica Menor Nuestra Senora de Lourdes

It is the second largest temple in Bogotá. There was a straw-roofed chapel in this place. The current church was built in 1875-1904. The tubular organ was brought from Germany in 1950.

Iglesia de San Francisco

It is currently the oldest preserved church in Bogotá. It was built between 1557 and 1566. The extension was built between 1586 and 1611. In 1623 the main altarpiece was built.
The Church was damaged for 1785 earthquake. The tower rebuilt in 1794.

Journalists' Park Gabriel García

The park named in honor of journalists, Gabriel García Marquez. There is a Simón Bolívar temple inside the park. It was built by Pietro Cantini between 1882 and 1886 to commemorate the first centenary of the birth of Simón Bolívar. It was inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Rome.
How to go: It is located about 220 meters from Gold Museum towards east.

Plazoleta Chorro de Quevedo

There is a Chorro de Quevedo (Quevedo's fountain) at this premises. The first fountain was built in 1832 and was destroyed in 1896.
There is a small white chapel called the Hermitage of San Miguel del Principe that was re-built in 1969. Colorful street art can be found on nearby walls.
How to go: It is located about 450 meters from Museo de la Universidad del Rosario towards southeast in La Candelaria neighborhood.


La Casa de Poesía Silva

It was built on May 24, 1986. In the house where the Colombian poet José Asunción Silva used to live. It exhibits his works. It has a library and a bookshop specializing in poetry, a music library, and an auditorium.

How to go: It is located about 210 meters from Plazoleta Chorro de Quevedo square towards north at Calle 12c # 3-41.



Day-9:

Guadalupe Hill

Guadalupe Hill is 3,360-meter high. The first hermitage on this hill was built in 1656, was destroyed by four earthquakes. The present structure was built in 1945. There is a 49-foot statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe was constructed in 1946, which can also be seen from the city. The chapel and road were constructed in 1967.
How to go: You can go by walking trail. Public transport to Guadalupe Hill leaves on Sunday from Carrera 10 with Calle 6 by Choachi bound bus from 7 AM to 4 PM. It’s around 4,000 Peso (US$0.95) one way and get off on the way that leads to the top of the mountain. Then 2 km hike is uphill. There is a small car park and some tourist shops and restaurants. But may remain closed, so bring food and water. Leave the place early.


Laguna El Verjón

How to go: By public transport Choachi bound bus leaves on Sunday from Carrera 10 and Calle 6 from 7 AM to 4 PM. It’s around 4,000 Peso (US$0.95) one way. Get off just before Choachi at Matarredonda Ecological Park. Then about 3 km hike is uphill towards west.

Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria

It was establish in 1635 and demolished in 1681. The construction of the current temple began on June 27, 1686. The temple was inaugurated in 1703.
The earthquake of June 17, 1826 damaged the church. in 1865, it was converted into a barracks. In 1868, it was used as the headquarters of the School of Engineering of the National University of Colombia. In 1886, it was converted into a Seminary. In 1896, the San José school was reopened in the old cloister.
On August 1, 2003, the comprehensive restoration work began, and ends in November 2004.

Santuario Nuestra Senora de El Carmen

Church

In the mid-17th century, the small church of Carmen was built.
In 1863, the monastery was closed and the nuns were expelled. It was invaded by the army and looted, where valuable religious objects and paintings were lost. Shortly after it became a military hospital. After 1890, the government recovered the old monastery. On September 1, 1890, the Salesian College of León XIII of arts and crafts was opened.
On August 22, 1926, the first stone of the temple was laid and construction began. The construction of the temple lasted for 10 years. The April 9, 1948 riots in Bogota, damaged the temple. On August 10 of the same year, the contract for the repair of the church was signed. Recovery was completed on July 16, 1994.

Archaeological Museum Casa del Marqués de San Jorge

The building was built at the end of the 17th century. Jorge Miguel Lozano de Peralta (December 13, 1731 - August 11, 1793), first Marquis of San Jorge de Bogota, was a descendant of Spanish and Creole aristocrats, bought the house in 1784. After his death in 1793, the second Marquis de San Jorge and his descendants were its owners for forty-eight years.
The museum exhibits the collection of pre-Columbian ceramics, as well as artifacts from archaeological excavations not only in Colombia, but also in Peru and Ecuador.

Templo de San Agustin

Church

Around 1642, the construction of the temple was begins with three naves and the adjoining convent. Consecration completed in 1668.
The church was converted into a military barracks in 1861. In February 1862, during the Battle of San Augustine, the church suffered severe damage in its southern sector, and parts of the documentary archive disappeared. The church was returned to worship in 1867, but the convent continued to be used as a military barracks until 1938.
The demolition of the convent was ordered, which began in April 1940, and was replaced by the Ministry Palace. Church repairs have happened gradually over the decades between 1954 and 1963.

Casa de Narino

Government Office

The official home and workplace of the President of Colombia.
The house was bought by Don Vicente Nariño in 1754. He lived with his family for approximately 30 years, until Nariño died. On April 9, 1765, the third of the eight children of Vicente Nariño was born, Antonio Nariño y Álvarez, one of the Colombian Independence's national heroes.
On November 16, 1827, an earthquakes left the palace partially destroyed. On October 23, 1885, President Rafael Núñez, purchased the Nariño house in order to convert it into a presidential palace. The presidents stayed there until 1892 and was moved again to the San Carlos Palace. Nariño house was used as headquarters of the War Ministry, the National Archive, and the National University's faculty of Mathematics.
On April 9, 1906, the house was demolished and rebuild the former house and completed on July 20, 1908. Remodeling works done between 1974 and 1978. To move the presidency back to the house took around 10 months between 1979 and 1980.
The Guided Visits service offers all Colombians and foreigners the opportunity to take a free tour of the defined areas of the Casa de Nariño facilities.
Visiting Time: 45 minutes guided tour from Monday to Friday - 9 AM to 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM to 4 PM. Saturday and holiday - 2:30 PM and 4 PM. Sunday - 3 PM and 4 PM. The changing of the guard can be seen on the tours on Wednesday and Friday at 2:30 PM and Sunday - 3 PM.

Entry requirements:
* Present 20 minutes before the scheduled time, at the access door of Carrera 8. No. 7-26 with the respective identification document, to comply with the required registration and entry procedures to Casa de Nariño; Likewise, it is requested to carry medical services card or valid certificate.
* Only the people listed in the application will be allowed access to Casa de Nariño.
* The entry of bags, briefcases, backpacks, cell phones, photographic or video cameras is not allowed. There are no lockers to store.
* Senior groups must always be accompanied by a coordinator, nurse or brigade member.
* Access will be restricted to people wearing sportswear such as shorts, shorts, sandals, etc.
* Military Personnel must present themselves in uniform No. 3 (cold weather), or its equivalent in each of the Forces.
* If you bring gifts, messages or letters addressed to the President of the Republic and/or officials of the Presidency, you must deliver them to the Correspondence Office located on 7th Street. No. 6-54 of Bogotá, from Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM/ 5:15 PM otherwise your entry is NOT allowed.
* The entry of food, drinks, or animals is not allowed.

Observatorio Astronómico Nacional

The construction began in the garden of the Botanical Expedition on May 24, 1802. The work was completed on August 20, 1803. It began to make astronomical and meteorological observations from December 1805. In 1848 it became part of the Military College. In 1859 it resumed its activity as an observatory. In February 1862 it was occupied to serve as a fortress. On May 26, 1867, it was suddenly converted into a prison-fortress. From 1882, It was again served as observatory.
From 1920, the Astronomical Observatory entered a stage of total inactivity. Observatory was built in 1952. Currently, the Observatory is at the level of a Department attached to the Faculty of Sciences, Bogota headquarters of the National University of Colombia.

Plaza de Bolívar

Square

Main square of Bogotá, previously called Plaza Mayor until 1821. There is a statue of Simón Bolívar, sculpted in 1846, which was the first public monument in the city. Bolívar Square was used for circus acts, public markets and bullfights.
The first building on the square, a primitive cathedral, was constructed in 1539. The current building was built in 1823. It is located east side of the square. Capitolio Nacional (or National Capitol) is located on the south, the construction of which began in 1848 and was finished in 1926. It houses both houses of the Congress of Colombia. The Liévano Palace, seat of the mayor of Bogotá, is located on the western side. It was built in 1907. Palace of Justice of Colombia is located on the northern edge. It was built in the 1960s and was destroyed on 6 November 1985. It was rebuilt in 1998.

Palacio Lievano

Town Hall

This site had several office buildings and residence. They were severely damaged by the earthquake of 1827-28 and was demolished. Juan Manuel Arrubla built a building on this site between 1843 and 1848, known as the 'Galerías Arrubla'. The largest building in Bogotá at that time.
The building was completely destroyed in a fire in 1900. In 1903, the city authorities took the initiative for a new building, which was completed in 1907 at the same location. The city administration acquired all ownership of the palace in 1960.
There are 32 windows on each floor of the facade of the three-storey building.

Catedral Primada de Colombia

The Spanish conquerors of Bogota Savannah celebrated the first Holy Mass on August 6, 1538, in a modest chapel of mud and straw roofs. In 1553, a cathedral with mud and brick walls was built in the same place as the present cathedral. In 1560, on the eve of the inauguration, the roof of the building collapsed. Nevertheless, on September 11, 1562, Pope Pius VI gave it the title of Cathedral. Twelve years later, on March 12, 1572, stone construction began at the same site. Work was completed in 1590, but construction on four side chapels and three naves were pending. The tower was completed by 1678.
On July 12, 1785, there was a strong earthquake in the city which severely affected the construction, for which it was decided to partially demolish it in 1805. Reconstruction of the cathedral began in February 1807. By 1811, construction work on the interior of the cathedral had been completed. The rest of the work was completed on April 19, 1823.
Inside the Premises:
Chapel del Sagrario: On the south side of the Cathedral is the Chapel del Sagrario, a church built between 1660 and 1689.
Casa del Cabildo Eclesiástico: Between the Cathedral and the Chapel del Sagrario is the Casa del Cabildo Eclesiástico (also known as the City Hall), which is a three-story building built in 1689.

Palacio de San Carlos

Building

The Palace of San Carlos was built by Archdeacon Francisco Porras Mejia, in 1585.
It was occupied by the archdeacon's family until 1605, Then it was sold to Archbishop Bartolomé Lobo Guerrero.
In 1739, the first printing press in the city was established here. In 1767, it became the Royal Library and served as barracks for the Presidential Guard.
The palace was the official residence of the President of Colombia from 1827 to 1908 and from 1954 to 1980. The palace was also the scene of an assassination attempt on Simon Bolivar in 1828. While he was taking a bath, he was attacked by a group of conspirators who tried to kill him, and he covered his body with soap and fled through the window.
In 1937, the properties adjacent to the palace were acquired on the east side. The main entrance has been added to a three-storey building to house the ministry office. The new facade is close to two other historic buildings in Calle del Coliseo, the birthplace of the poet Rafael Pambo and the Christopher Columbus Theater. On 11 August 1975, the San Carlos Palace was declared a National Monument. In 1980 the Palace of San Carlos was converted to house the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which it still accommodates today.

Teatro de Cristóbal Colón

The Teatro de Cristóbal Colón (The Christopher Columbus Theater), also known as the "Teatro Colón. The construction started on 5 October 1885 and was inaugurated on 12 October 1892 to commemorate the Discovery of America. In 2007, the theater ranked seventh in a nationwide poll to choose the 7 wonders of Colombia.

The Museum is housed in a building which was built around 1604. The Jesuit College opens on September 27, 1604. The foundation of the Colegio Seminario is signed and begins to function on October 18, 1605 and later transferred to Palace of San Carlos. 1622 The Javeriana Academy was founded.
After the Jesuits are expelled on 23 September 1767, the Cloister had multiple uses. it was the Military Barracks, headquarters of the National Museum of Colombia, the National Library and, finally, headquarters of the Museum of Colonial Art since August 6, 1942.
