Sanjay Van is a forest spread over an area of 443 acres. It is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers.

Sanjay Van consists of the historic western ruins of the "Lal Kot" fort built by Anangapala II of the Tomara dynasty between 1052-1060 AD. You will see some ruins of that time.

There are 6 entry/exit gates of Sanjay Van.
Gate-0: At Aruna Asaf Ali Marg (road). At the west of the park.
Gate-1: At Aruna Asaf Ali Marg (road). At the west of the park.
Gate-2: Near Gorakhnath temple North of the park near Gate-3.
Gate-3: Near Rockland hospital. At the north of the park.
Gate-4: North-east corner of the park.
Gate-5: Near TB hospital. At the east of the park. It is the closest gate from Qutub Minar is about 350 meters from Qutub Minar gate towards northeast.

Visiting Time: Sunrise to Sunset every day.
Entry Fee: Free.
Photography: Allowed.
How to go: Gate-5 is located about 350 meters from Qutub Minar gate towards northeast.

Inside the Premises:
I entered through the gate-5. After few meters walk saw a open gym on my right. Just opposite of the open gym is ruined Lal Kot Baoli on my left. Also called Anang Baoli, the oldest baoli in Delhi, is a single tier well built between 1052-1060 AD by Anangapala II, a Tomara dynasty ruler.

I kept walking straight and reached a place where one road went straight and another one to the right. I kept walking straight. I reached a place where one road goes straight and the other to the left, where the sign shows Lal Kot Wall and Anang Tal on the left road. I went left and saw the ruined wall of Lal Kot and after a few 100m walk found Anang Tal.

I returned to the same point and started walking straight. Then I reached a point where a road went straight and another road went to the right. I kept walking straight.

Then reached a point where straight road leads to Gate-1. The right (north) road goes up to Gate-3. On your right is Mayuri Hill. I though mayur (peacock) are available here but not really. There is a hillock, where people are gossiping, and behind (north) of the hillock are huge rocks. It is used for rock climbing. The most interesting thing is that you will see a ruined gate of Lal Kot just opposite (south) Mayuri hill on your left. The left road (south) goes to the top of the Lal Kot.

The left road goes south. Lal Kot Peak and its ramparts lie east of this road. About 450 meters down the road are a few shrines such as the Ashiq Allah Dargah and the Shaikh Hafiz Riyazudeen Shah Vali Dargah 300 meters more south.

I kept walking straight. I crossed a small bridge. After that, one road goes to the left and another to the right. I kept walking to the right. After a few meters I saw another road on the right towards Gate-2. But I kept walking straight. At this point I saw Sanjay Van Lake and 5 ponds and Duck house on my left. The road turns right. Then one road goes straight towards gate-0 and left road goes towards gate-1.

After exiting Gate-1 of Sanjay Van, I walked south along the main road and I saw a lake called Neela Hauz on my left. There is an entrance just before the lake. Nothing special, just a lake. I walked a few meters, then came back to the road.

From gate-1, if you want to go to Qutub Minar, the easiest way is to walk towards gate-5 again.

Buddha Jayanti Park
Park

Buddha Park Delhi

It has 3 gates on its western side. If you are coming from North (Hanuman Mandir Chowk) like me, then first Gate-3 (small gate few meters inside a narrow road). Then gate-2, and then gate-1. Although the bus stopped at Gate-2, Gate-2 was closed due to renovation. So I walked north and entered through Gate-3 and exited through Gate-1 after traveling.

I entered straight. If you enter through gate-2, you can walk towards gate-3 (north), and walk.

Buddha Park Delhi

Buddha Park Delhi

You will see a nursery on your left. You can see the nursery, and then continue walking straight.

Buddha Park Delhi

At the straight end of this road, you will see a cafeteria. To the left is a locked gate. You have to cross the cafeteria on the left side of the narrow walkway (your straight). or by its right side road. Then I walked straight.

Buddha Park Delhi

At a point you have to cross a bridge and continue walk.

Buddha Park Delhi

At the end of this road, is water pump. You will see a beautiful white gate with a white fence around a tree on your right. I don't know the reason why this tree is so nicely fenced around.

Buddha Park Delhi

I walked south along the left side wall of the pump house, eventually finding the Buddha statue. A golden Buddha statue inside a dirty glass cage. I could not see clearly.

Buddha Park Delhi

Then I walked towards the west after the southern side of the statue. I crossed a bridge. Finally, I left through Gate-1.

Historical Places in Delhi

Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal
Ruined Palace

bhuli-bhatiyari-delhi1

bhuli-bhatiyari-delhi

Bhuli Bhatiyari was a Hunting Lodge built by Feroz Shah Tughlaq (reign: 1351–1388).

There are two stories behind this title "Bhuli Bhatiyari". One, after the Tughlaq dynasty, became the residence of a Sufi saint named 'Bu Ali Bakhtiyari'. Bhuli Bhatiari is a distorted form of his name. Another is that, there was a Bhatiyarin (a tribal woman from Rajasthan), who forgot her way and came here. After that the place became famous as 'Bhuli Bhatiyari'.

This structure is claimed to be the most haunted place in Delhi. There you may have heard a story that inside the palace resides a queen who died 600 years ago and whose ghost is seen at night. Actually there is nothing inside. This is just a story to make the place attractive to tourists.

The security guard keeps the door locked at all times. Wait for the guard to enter inside. Because he gets lost sometimes (lol...). Talk to the security guard, you want to enter. He can demand money. You can bargain with him.

The palace has been empty for a long time so it is not wise to enter at night because of the poisonous insects.

How to go: Hanuman Mandir is located about 100 meters west of Jhandewalan Metro Station (Blue Line). It is a circular point. From the Hanuman temple the roads turn to the left (south-west). Continue a few meters, and you'll see a narrow road heading east. Enter the road and starts walking. The road turns right and turns left. You will see the gate on your right. The total walk is about 330 meters.

Festivals in Delhi

Phool Walon Ki Sair

A festival is held in Mehrauli for three days every year in the month of October.

Mumtaz Mahal Begum, wife of the Mughal king Akbar Shah-II (reign: 1808 -1837), was strained for her younger son, Mirza Jahangir. Mirza Jahangir fired at a British resident from the roof of Naubat Khana in Red Ford. But one of his guards was killed. For his actions, Mirza Jahangir was exiled to Allahabad on the orders of the British Resident.

Queen Mumtaz Mahal Begum, distraught, vowed that if her son was released from Allahabad, she would offer a flower chadar at the dargah of Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki at Mehrauli. A few years later, Mirza Jahangir was released and the queen went to Mehrauli to redeem her vows. All kinds of merriment continued in Mehrauli for 7 days in 1812. The Mughal king was secular in spirit and by his orders a flower Pankha (hand fan) was offered at the famous Yogmaya temple at Mehrauli.

After the huge public response, it was decided that the festival would be held every year after the rains.

Mughal emperor Akbar Shah-II used to enjoy processions from the balcony of Mehrauli's Zafar Mahal.

The British stopped this festival in 1942.

In September 1962, Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru restarted the festival.

A procession of flower-decorated hand fans made and carried by the flower vendors starts from Mughal Jharna at Mehrauli, stops at the Yogmaya Temple on first day, moves to the Jahaj Mahal and on 2nd day it ends at the famous Dargah of Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki. It characterizes Hindu-Muslim fusion culture.
