Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib
Gurdwara

Gurdwara Rakab Ganj

It is on the gurdwara of Sikh religion. The ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur, was beheaded on 11 November 1675, on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, where Gurdwara Sis Ganj at Chandni Chowk stands today. Before the dead body could be quartered and brought to light, his head was stolen during dark to Sri Anandpur Shahib by Jeevan Singh and Bhai Jaita Ji. His body was taken by one of his disciples, Lakhi Shah Vanjjara, to his house at this place who then set his house on fire to cremate the guru's body and buried the ashes in the house so that no one understands. Today Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib stands at that place.

When Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, came to Delhi in 1707 to meet the future Mughal king Bahadur Shah I, he identified the cremation site with the help of local Sikhs and built a simple memorial here.

General Baghel Singh built seven small structures in a span of eight months from April to November 1783. They are -

1. Gurdwara Nanak Piao 2. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib 3. Gurdwara Damdama Shahib 4. Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tilla 5. Gurdwara Mata Sundri 6. Gurdwara Rakab Ganj 7. Gurdwara Sis Ganj.

This Gurdwara is one of them. It was rebuilt in 1857. During 1914 a portion of the boundary wall was demolished by the British Government to make way for the Viceregal Building. In late 1918, the boundary wall was rebuilt at public expense. The construction of the present building began in 1960 and was completed in 1967-68.

It is now home to Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
One gate is on the east side and another on the south-east side.

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib
Gurdwara

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib

It is one of the most prominent Sikh gurdwaras.

Guru Har Kishan:

The shrine was originally a bungalow of Raja Jai Singh (reigned: 13 December 1621 – 28 August 1667), known as Jaisinghapura Palace. Eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Kishan lived here in 1664. At that time, there was a smallpox and cholera epidemic, and Guru Har Krishan helped the afflicted with help in this house and clean water from the well. Soon he too fell ill and finally died on 30 March 1664. Later Raja Jai Singh built a small tank above the well, its water is now revered as having healing properties and is taken home by Sikhs all over the world.

General Baghel Singh built seven small structures in a span of eight months from April to November 1783. They are -

1. Gurdwara Nanak Piao 2. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib 3. Gurdwara Damdama Sahib 4. Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tilla 5. Gurdwara Mata Sundri 6. Gurdwara Rakab Ganj 7. Gurdwara Sis Ganj.

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib was converted into a Gurdwara to commemorate Guru Har Rai's stay here. Now the Gurdwara is called Bangla Sahib.

In March 2021, the Gurdwara inaugurated the cheapest diagnostic center aimed at providing healthcare to the poor. Patients can get an MRI scan at 50 Rupees (US$ 0.61).
