Satkhira is a district in Khulna Division of Bangladesh.

Satkhira is bordered to the north by Jashore District, on the south by the Bay of Bengal, to the east by Khulna District, and to the west by 24 Pargana District of West Bengal in India.



How to Reach Satkhira

There are several way to go to Satkhira.

By Air: Nearest airport from Satkhira is Jessore airport is about 72 km away.

By bus from Dhaka: Shohag Paribahan Buses goes to Satkhira from Malibagh. They have also counter at Badda, Uttara and Abdullahpur. Buses goes via Ashulia, Nabinagar and Aricha Ferry Ghaat. Ticket fare 550 taka
By bus from Khulna: You will see "Khulna-Kaligonj Express" buses at Shonadanga bus station goes to Satkhira within 1 hour 50 minutes via Chuknagar. Fare 90 Taka.



Tourist Places in Satkhira

There are many places to visit in Satkhira. Best time to visit in winter cause in summer time it is extremely hot.

Annapurna Temple

This is a Hindu Temple.
How to go: Go to "Toofan Bus stop" by auto. It is not far from Satkhira mor. Fare 5 Taka each person. Then From Toofan Bus stop (go to the left, if you coming from Satkhira. Hire a Battery Auto to go Mandir. Fare 10 Taka.

How to go: From Satkhira bus stand go by auto to 2.5 Km away Mozaffor Garden road, Just 870 meters away from Tufan bus stand. From there you have to turn right and go inside the park about 2.5 Km by auto

Limpid Botanical Garden


Botanical Garden established on 7 Acres land in 1990.
How to go: By Satkhira-Kaligonj bus go to Paruliya Bus stand about 18 Km from Satkhira after Shantibagh and 10 Km before Nolta. From Paruliya bus stand to there by CNG.


Rupashi Devhata Mangrove Forest

Artificial Forest

This mangrove forest formed according to Sundarbans is joint effort of upazila parishad and upazila administration. Different types of plants from Sundarban are planted here and created an artificial forest. This mangrove forest is spread over about 60 acres of land in the bank of Ichhamoti river.
How to go: By Satkhira-Kaligonj bus go to Devhata Bus stand about 19.5 Km from Satkhira after Paruliya bus stand and 8.5 Km before Nolta. From Devhata bus stand go to shokhipur by auto.

Takir Ghaat


Near Ichhamoti River. This is the border of Bangladesh. on the other hand of the river is India. You can see the nice view of the river and village.

Nalta (নল্ তা) Shrine

This is a graveyard of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah and his family at Nalta (নল্ তা), Kaligonj Sub-district. Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah (27 December 1873 – 9 February 1965) was an educator, litterateur, Islamic theologist and social reformer of Pre-partition India. He was instrumental in the formation of the University of Dhaka and is the namesake of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology.
How to go: From Corner of Satkhira bus stop you can see buses "Satkhira-Munshigonj Gatelock" or "Khulna-Kaligonj Express" waiting to go via Nalta. Fare 30-40 Taka. It will take almost 1 hour to reach at "Nalta Rawja mor". Inform the bus helper several times that to drop you at "Nalta Rawja mor".


Dream House of Sattar Morol

Beautiful House

In 2005, Abdus Sattar Morol built the house. This house is now one of the most attractive places there. If you want to enter the house then there will be a bridge made of glass over the water. There is a primary school, mosque and madrasa inside the home borders. 400 students studying in Madrasah.
How to go: From Kaligonj bus stand you have to go to 12 Km away Baashtola Bondkathi by auto. From there you can go to House of Sattar Morol

Chhoybariya Jora ShivMondir

How to go: Chhoybariya is 5 Km north from Satkhira town. Go by auto.

Sham Shundor Mondir

From the bricks found on the temple, it is known that in 1767 it was built. It is also known as "Sonabaria Moth".
How to go: It's in Sonabariya village in Kolaroya Sub-district. You have to go north from Satkhira at Kolaroya Sub-district by bus. From there go to Sonabariya village by auto.

Sonabariya Moth Temple


Two hundred years ago, Sonabariya was ruled by different Zamiders. Many signs are still visible. Such is the ancient ruined sign is Sonabariya Moth temple. According to various sources, Rani Rashmoni established this temple of the Math in 1208. Some said that in the ancient times, the followers of Gautam Buddha built a math temple while promoting Buddhism here. Later Hindu religion reconstructed it and converted it into a temple.
How to go: It's in Sonabariya village in Kolaroya Sub-district. You have to go north from Satkhira at Kolaroya Sub-district by bus. From there go to Sonabariya village by auto.

Poet Michael Madhusudan Dutta Residence, Jashore

Michael Madhusudan Dutta (মাইকেল মধুসূদন দত্ত ); 25 January 1824 – 29 June 1873) was a popular 19th-century Bengali poet and dramatist. He was born in Sagordari ( সাগরদাঁড়ি ), on the bank of Kopotakkho ( কপোতাক্ষ ) River, a village in Keshabpur Upazila, Jessore District,Bangladesh
Though his residence is in Jashore Districts but this place is nearest from Satkhira.
How to go: From Shatkhira mor by "Khulna-Kaligonj Express" bus, go to Kumira bus stop. From there turn left and hire a Battery Auto. Then go to Poet House. It almost 7 Km from main road.


Tetulia Mosque

The Tetulia Jame Mosque, also known as the Khan Bahadur Salamatullah Mosque, and the Tetulia Shahi Mosque, is located in village of Tetulia in Tala upazila in the district of Satkhira
How to go: From Satkhira mor by "Khulna-Kaligonj Express" bus go to "Atharo Mile" (আঠারো মাইল). Fare 40 taka, or if you are at "Kumira" then Kumira - Atharo Mile (আঠারো মাইল) fare will be less. From Atharo Mile (আঠারো মাইল) Turn right, hire Battery auto almost 5 km distance, fare 15 taka.


Chuknagar Massacar Field

How to go: From Atharo Mile (আঠারো মাইল), go to Maltiar Mor towards Chuknagar by van fare 5 taka. Then turn right and walk. almost 2km.
From Chuknagar you can go to khulna. Fare 40 taka.


Sundarban Visit

You can visit few places of Sundarban from Satkhira

Kalagachia

This place is about 05 km from Munshigange, Satkhira Range Office.

Attraction:
* Wild boar and spotted deer sitting.
* Recently developed Eco-tourism site.


Dobeki

This place is about 15 km from Satkhira Range H/Q. There is a rest house by the side of the river kalagachi.

Attraction:
* Golpata (Nypa Fruiticans) in the both bank of the river.
* Very big fresh water pond where you can see wild boar, spotted deer.
* Tiger pug mark sitting.


Sekhar Tek

The Sekher Tek area is located about 20 km south of Nalian and on the bank of the Sibsa. This is a ruins of Pratap's Sibsa Fort, a dilapidated Siva temple and remains of old building of former habitations.
Now you can see there thick forest with Sundri trees and infested with Tiger, Wild boar, Snakes and herds of beautiful spotted deer.

Honey Collection: About 300 t honey and 80 t wax collected annually and 3000 people are engaged in these activities.

Mandarbaria

This isolated island is situated in the extreme south-west corner of Bangladesh, distance from Satkhira Range headquarter is about 75 km.

Attraction:
* Untouched Sea beach from where you can enjoy Sunset and Sunrise.
* Wild boar, spotted deer, monitor lizard, tiger spotting.
* Beautiful sunset view.
* Sea turtle nest hear and that arrives to lay its eggs during the winter months.
