Buddha's birthplace

Lumbinī, the UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District in Nepal. Lumbini is the Buddha's birthplace, one of the world's most important spiritual sites and attracts Buddhist pilgrims from around the world.
Queen Mahamayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BCE. Gautama, became the Buddha and founded Buddhism.


How to reach Lumbini

By Air, you can take flight from Kathmandu to Gautam Buddha International Airport, Siddhartha Nagar, also known as Bhairahawa Airport, which is 22 km away from Lumbini. It takes about 35 minutes to reach.
Buy a cheapest air-ticket from below site. This is my favorite site because it shows the different airline ticket prices of the same flight. So it makes easy for me to buy the lowest price ticket.
Type your travel city name "Bhairawa" in Destination box. Select your depart and return date. If one-way, click on the 'X' in the return date box. Click on search.



From airport, you can get a taxi to Lumbini at 1000 Rupees and Local bus 50 Rupees.

Tourist AC bus from Kathmandu to Lumbini depart from Kalanki bus station at 8 AM. It takes about 9 to 10 hours and fare 1000 Rupees. Non-AC bus fare about 600 Rupees. You will arrive in Lumbini at Lumbini Bus Park.

Entry fee of Lumbini

Free for Nepalese, 16 Rupees for Indian, 100 Rupees for SAARC and 750 Rupees for foreigner. Professional filming will cost Rupees.
For Nepalese, Indian and SAARC: 15 Rupees for still camera, 200 Rupees for video camera, 5000 Rupees for professional filming.
For foreigner: 200 Rupees for still camera and 37000 Rupees for professional filming.

World Peace Pagoda

Buddhist Shrine

It was constructed by Nipponzan Myohoji monks and dedicated in November 2001. There is also a Japanese Temple
How to go: It is north end of Lumbini area.



Walk 250 meters towards south from Peace Stupa, then turn right and walk 160 meters towards west, you will see hotel - Lumbini Hotel Kasai. Turn left and walk 170 meters towards south, you will see another hotel - Sri Lanka Pilgrim guest house. On the opposite site is Lumbini Peace Stupa. Then walk 300 meters towards south then turn left towards east. If you go stright you will see Lumbini Bus Park. Walk Left towards east 300 meters then turn right towards south. Walk 250 meters to Lumbini Museum.

Visiting Time: 10 AM to 5 PM. Tuesday remains close.
Entry Fee: NPR 50 for foreigner, SAARC and Chinese. NPR 10 for Nepalese.



Come to bus Park again and walk 390 meters towards south. You will cross the south pond and reach a canel. From here at your right side (west) visit Thousand Buddha Temple, Nepal Vajrayana Mahavihara, Drigung Kagyud Dharmaraja Foundation, Japanese Temple, Linh Son Monastery, World Cener for Peace and Unity, Canadian Temple, Chua Viet Nam tai, Chinese Temple and Ben Huan Monastery. Drubgyud Choling Monastery, Dharmodaya Mahachaitay, Korea Temple, Mahayana Temple, Panditarama Lumbini Vipassana.
At your left (East) side, visit Indan Monastery, Nepal Theravada Buddha, Cambodian Monastery, Golden Temple, Sri Lnaka Temple, Myanmar Golden Temple, Dhamma Janani Vipassana Meditaion, Gutami Nuns Temple and Eternal Peace Flame.
Walk Little bit south you will see Little Buddha Statue.
At the end of Lumbini at south end side you will find Maya Devi Temple.
